My oldest tea, I should have just enough for one more cuppa after this sitting. This is a very light, lightly caffeinated, choice for this evening. The boyfriend states that he is keeping me up as late as possible in the hopes of making my adjustment to another time zone (+7 hours from here), starting Monday for four weeks, a bit easier. I added a tiny bit of Truvia to encourage the light guava flavor. I do find this cup a welcome relaxation after several busy days preparing for travel. I do have to say that I am not terribly sad to see this one leaving my cupboard soon. It’s been a long time since I’ve had it and I can’t see restocking it as I am finding many other things that deserve a space in my stash.
Preparation
I sadly forgot about this one as I am running around cleaning the apartment, doing laundry, and making a grocery list. It is room temperature right now. It is fruity and light. Maybe I do like white tea, apparently I cannot decide! I can’t see going through this super quickly but I feel as summer approaches it will become something I reach for. Maybe iced! I need to find some glass jugs.
Preparation
Water: 8oz
Leaves: mixture of various fruits
Steep: 7m
Aroma: Tart
Color: Deep Red
Taste: After not brewing tea for quite sometime i decided to give this one a try. It had a fairly tart aroma. As for the taste i didn’t notice anything special,it was just tart
Preparation
I had to buy this one, my favorite flowers are peonies! This has a taste that is very different from any other tea I have tried. I am happy that I have now tried a straight white. I like that the dryness from it didn’t go all the way down my throat and become unpleasant as has happened with another white tea I’ve tried. I don’t think white teas are going to be something I reach for often but once in a while is nice.
Preparation
Thought I would start my morning with a black tea. It is my first day off (from everything) in a long time. I should use it to study. I feel what better way to wake up with tea :). I didn’t care for this at first. I had put the whole sample in my PerfecTea maker and steeped for 3 minutes. I thought it was bitter. I added a little sugar and continued to drink it. About halfway through my mug I decided that it wasn’t bad. I don’t feel that I personally tasted the vanilla but whatever flavors I did taste worked very well together.
Preparation
I got my Kati Cup today! Good thing, too. The rest of my tea-ware was dirty. I have been wanting to try a white tea. This was a good one to start with. I was worried as I currently only have a tea kettle and no way to assess temperature. I took the lid off the tea kettle until I could no longer see steam. I think it worked out quite well. I don’t really believe that there is mint included in this tea. That may be because I am used to drinking straight peppermint tea and I don’t have a palate that can discern different tastes. As I sip this I am getting a funny feeling in the back of my throat. I am told this is part of the “dryness” of white tea? So I guess I am okay with it.
Love.
That is pretty much all I can say. I love rose, I love mint, and I think white tea is just fabulous for carrying flavor. I was worried the mint would overwhelm this but it really doesn’t. Both the rose and mint are equally represented, making it a calming tea I could see enjoying hot or iced depending on the season. I cannot wait to get more!
Preparation
I put the whole sample into my PerfecTea maker tonight. Well, it’s the boyfriend’s but he left it here, so yup. My first reaction to this tea was “sour!” Not really what I was going for after a long shift at work. This could be nice iced. With so many things to try out there, I don’t think this one will have a permanent spot in my cupboard. It is different and enjoyable though.
Preparation
This tea is more floral and delicate than the lychee burst. The first taste and smell is the green tea and jasmine. The end of the sip is sweet from the passion fruit. I could see this getting a little astringent if overbrewed, but I brewed it just right & it tastes great.
Preparation
Holy cow, this is SUPER butterscotch! Like, most butterscotch teas taste like tea with a bit of butterscotch. This tastes like butterscotch with a bit of tea, particularly if you sweeten it at all! Awesome to have for a dessert cup…or first thing in the morning like I did.
Preparation
I really enjoy this, though I wouldn’t have guessed honeysuckle just by tasting it. It does have a sweetness, and a fruitiness to it that tempers the normal earthy pu-erh taste. I could definitely see repurchasing to have as an everyday pu-erh!
Preparation
My first lapsang souchong (that wasn’t in a blend). Well, this stuff is wild! Smokey, charred earth, malty and mega wood flavor! You definitely need to like smokey teas to try this one! What impressed me the most about this tea is the colour – simply gorgeous glowing reddy golden brown!
It’s my first LS, so I’m not really sure how it stacks up against ofthers. On a personally level, I find the crazy factor really fun, but not sure if I like it, if that makes any sense. LS seems to be a tea that needs to grow on you.

Preparation
I have had one of Those days. I spent an extra four hours at work even though I was dead tired from shooting a concert the night before (and my shift started at 6 am which meant being up 4:45. Yuck.) and nursing a headcold. And now I’m home with a lot of photos to edit. So yes, I need a treat.
This is a light, buttery blend. I’m not going to lie, it might be a little too light for me. I’ll have to steep this a little longer next time. I am getting the scotch taste that I’m sure could be brought out more with a longer steep. It provides a nice contrast to the buttery flavour. And I’m also picking up some of the sweet caramel notes once every few sips.
Needed Earl Grey this morning. Started to grab Ahmad but I have been hitting it pretty regularly of late (just not recording it), so digging through my ever increasing, never will see the bottom ever again, stash, I spotted this one. It really smells nice. Lots of vanilla. It is a bit drying but then it is EG. They tend to be that way. For me personally, I think if I cut this with a strong straight bergamot EG, I would love the result. On its own, I like it a lot. It is balanced, but I miss my citrus blast. I don’t really seek balance in my Earl Greys. On the other hand this isn’t particularly dainty. The flavors are big. I just crave a more bergamot to vanilla ratio.
Interesting. When labeled Earl Grey Creme this received an 84 average rating. As Earl Grey Heaven it has a 71. Hmmm.
OK, I love bergamot. Earl Grey is not just a tea, it is an addiction. If you mess with it you better change the name – blue cornflowers are an exception, they add nothing to the flavor and are just too cute to dislike. I hate surprises when it comes to EG. The Persimmon Tree clues me in advance that this is not simply black tea and bergamot by adding Heaven to the name. So I will not be taking off points just because there is added vanilla.
The dry scent was almost alcoholic in nature so I wasn’t sure what I was in for here. The wet leaf had a similar aroma. The cup though is very nice. It is very balanced. I know this because if you read all the reviews under both listings there are an equal number saying the vanilla is heavier than the bergamot and vice versa. How you judge it depends on which flavor you want most to taste or which you dislike the most. For me personally, the vanilla could be tuned down a notch but then it would not be balanced.
This not at all bitter. It is slightly drying. As the vanilla/bergamot fade I can briefly taste the tea base before the vanilla bean aftertaste kicks in. I thought this was one of the better EGC’s I have tried. The closest comparison is The Tea Merchant’s French Earl Grey. I recall that one leaning a little heavier on the vanilla.
Preparation
I don’t usually reach for lychee teas because they can be too astringent. This one is just right. It’s pleasantly juicy and fruity without tasting artificial or floral. It is clean and the two stars (lychee and black tea) really shine through.
I would highly recommend this tea for those that have been burned by off-putting lychee flavored teas. I can’t find anything wrong with this tea and I enjoy drinking it. I love when teas that smell good have a matching taste, which this does.
Flavors: Fruit Tree Flowers, Lychee
Preparation
Oh man oh man oh man. I am so glad to be home. With my cold and everything (luckily – or not so much so with my asthma – it seems to be a chest cold, so I can still taste things).
I love my mom’s dogs, but I don’t know if I could ever do three of them in my future. Between the one that sometime eats so fast she throws up, and the one that hurt herself in the snow and the one that has an insanely sensitive stomach and as a result taught me how to steam vac a carpet. Yeah, I don’t think I could do it.
Tea related, though. I’d thought I’d reviewed this before. I know I’ve drank it, as I’m nearing the bottom of the tin. But whatever.
The stars of white tea add some fun visual interest in my steeper, though really they add little to nothing flavor-wise. The real star is the creamy, and slightly sweet vanilla flavor. It tames the slight bitterness of the Assam, and overall makes a rich cup with a thick mouthfeel.
I’m not blown away by this as a vanilla tea, and I’m not sure if I’d reorder , but it’s far from the worst I’ve had.
Preparation
I got a 1 oz tin of this one totally free by sharing a link on facebook… how amazing is that!?
Best thing is, it’s great, I really enjoy it. I had it hot once and I remember I had liked it, but this morning I’m having it cold and it’s very, very interesting. It’s fruity and light and has a nice white tea base. I might not buy more once my free supply is gone, but I will have some nice moments while it lasts !
Sipdown (196/198)!
I didn’t realize there was rooibos in this, but I guess that explains the ever so slight woodsy taste this one had. Anyway, overall this was a nice caramel green, which I something I don’t have in my stash in regular stock because I’m not really a green tea person. I could maybe be persuaded to keep this one though, in a smaller quantity like an ounce.
It was sweet though and, like I said, a little woody. The green tea was pretty masked; maybe that’s why I liked it so much. So yeah, really decent.
Oh, I don’t know…
I was very excited to try this one iced as I had read plenty of reviews saying it was amazing cold. But I’m quite disappointed. I still can’t taste much fruit, mostly only rose. And as much as I usually like my rose green tea, this one doesn’t work much for me. At least not cold.
This is very good. I don’t know if I’m crazy though but what I can mostly taste is rose, not pomegranate or even fruit. It reminds me a lot of a rose green tea I have, actually it’s not that much different although maybe a bit more sweetness from the fruit. Anyway, I like it and I can’t wait to try it iced as I’m sure it’s even better.

If you are going to Europe the best thing you can do is just stay up when you get there, have a long day, and not go to sleep until their normal bedtime that night. Source: four trips and much jet lag
Thanks for the tip :) I am going over to Africa. It would likely be a similar scenario.
It is a similar scenario. I went to Africa a couple of summers ago and we did the stay up when we got there thing and it worked very well. :)
Great to hear! Thanks. Where in Africa did you go?
Safe travels!
We went to Tanzania with a layover in Nairobi, Kenya. It was a fantastic trip. Where are you going to be?
Thanks Terri HarpLady!
Nicole, I will be in Manzini, Swaziland.
