First Sip Thought: “Ahhh…awakening my senses!”
Smell: A bright, and quite peppery scent at first. As it steeped, I felt the scent becoming much soother.
Taste: Keep in mind, I have not tried other lotus teas before this one. Thus, my thoughts will be very different from anyone who has because I won’t be comparing. I dove into this tea with no thoughts in my mind so I was surprised a lot with the flavours that were appearing in my mouth. As my first sip thought state, it was definitely very strong but not in a bad way. The first sip took my mind away to a flower bed where I started trimming bushes and planting flowers of all sorts. Very floral, but very welcoming. However, the taste started to get softer with each sips and I started getting hints of maybe a vanilla grassy taste that lingered until I saw the bottom of my teacup. This may be a tea I would have an interesting relationship with. I’ve read other reviews that it was much more enjoyable cold, so I will try that next time. I will also be infusing this for a second time to get a softer, yet creamy taste from it.

Having a big cup of this to sip it down, and it’s actually just what I wanted on a rainy afternoon (I just grabbed whatever was in my “use up” pile). This is good, but now I’ve tried the similar Japon by Nina’s I’d say I prefer that one. This has a little too much rice to it and the rest of the flavors are a little muddled. There’s a lot of ingredients and it means there’s a lot going on in this cup. I’m not sure about “autumn leaf pile” (?) like on its page, but this is kind of dry and earthy for a caramel tea. Nice, but maybe just a bit too complicated for my taste.
This one is interesting—I don’t think I’ve seen a green/rooibos blend before. Thank you Jennkay for sending it to me!
When I opened up the page for this tea I realized that I was seeing things in the tea that weren’t in the description. In this case it was steepster’s fault and not the company’s, so I fixed it myself. That kind of thing puts me on edge with food! Again, blame allergies.
Hmm. This is caramel-y but the rice in it also reminds me of how a genmaicha would smell. It’s a little nutty. It also tastes a little like genmaicha, with a caramel sweetness on the end. It’s a very well-rounded cup, and one of the few I’ve had that’s managed to mix distinct savory and sweet notes.
Backlog:
I enjoyed the first few sips of this as a hot tea, and then I got distracted and came back to the tea and it was cold. It is still amazing cold!
Brew this at a lower temperature (accommodate the green tea’s temperature) and steep for 2 1/2 – 3 minutes.
Sweet, delicious passion fruit notes and beautiful hints of jasmine. Fruity and floral. A really lovely combination. I can also taste both the black tea and the green tea here. The green tea tastes sweet and delicate, while the black tea offers a soft, earthy note.

Preparation
I grabbed this one today for no particular reason. I like it. The peppermint gives it a nice cooling tingle. Mint is the primary component in the taste. The rose is secondary in taste but strong in the aroma. To me it is nicely done. Any stronger and it would be too perfumey. I can taste the white tea mostly in the aftertaste along with the tingle. Since it is a white you need to use a lot more leaf than you might normally use.
Wasn’t Peppermint Rose the name of a little doll a while back? I bet some of the younger folks on here remember. I think my daughter had one.
Googled and looks like you are correct. http://www.ghostofthedoll.co.uk/peppermintrose.htm
I cold brewed this all day in the fridge as others said they liked it that way. In my opinion the flavors meld together more making the sip less complex. I enjoyed this much more hot. This is my first cold brew attempt but I think I got it right. Just like it brewed better. Now I know, and now I have the skills to cold brew puerh.
The reviews on this are kind of all over the place. I thought it was pretty good. I love peppermint in tea blends. I love white tea – though admittedly I normally enjoy them more without additives to better enjoy the subtle flavors. I am learning to appreciate rose when it is handled masterfully. This tea hits hard with initial blast of mint that turns rose quickly. I do taste white tea late in the sip and under the cooling minty aftertaste.
I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this tea, chocolate teas and I, for the most part, don’t get along. I’m sure you can imagine my surprise when I decided this was one of my favorite chocolate teas to date. It reminds me a lot of those chocolate mints you get after dinner at a lot of restaurants, I love those things! The combinations of vanilla and yogurt give the tea a smooth, almost melts in your mouth feeling, just like the chocolate mint have. The flavor of the rooibos gets hidden behind all of the flavorings (and there are a lot of flavors going on here other than just chocolate and mint.) The apple pieces in the blend were rather unexpected, but the do lend a tiny bit of flavor that hides out in the background. My only real complaint about this tea is that there is an oil slick at the top that is really unappealing looking, I know it is likely from the yogurt, but I still hate seeing it.
It took me a while to hit on a tea from the Persimmon Tree that I really loved, but I’m glad I finally did. I guess now I’ll have to do a sample sipdown on all of the samples I ordered on Black Friday and see which others I want to reorder.
Preparation
It is a rare green tea that I enjoy. But this is sweet, smooth, and light. I decided to sample this because I love caramel and this does not disappoint. I used 1 teaspoon and it’s perfect. My only complaint, and this is appearing to be the case with all of the sample sizes I am opening, the leaves are so tiny that they float their way into my mug. I have to sip around them until they finally sink to the bottom.
Preparation
First thing I noticed was large chunks of what looks like dried raspberries, impressive! The tea itself tasted much the same.. like dried raspberries. There was also some other tartness that I assume comes from the pomegranate flavor. Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever even had pomegranate before, so it’s hard to identify. Anyway, this tea was very fruity in a dried fruit sort of way rather than juicy-fruity.
I got this last year and have been using it primarily as a mixer for other things: tonight’s blend is rooibos with ginger, orange peel and cardamom. I don’t care that much for plain rooibos so I am not going to rate this one but it is fun to experiment with. If you’re curious this blend came out really well, maybe I should start my own tea business?
Preparation
I’ve had this at least three times but it seems I’ve never logged it. I got a small sample of this from Persimmon and it’s quite nice. There is a creamy sweetness to this white tea. Sometimes it seems like it might be too faint, but actually it’s perfect. It’s a satisfying subtle flavor. I wouldn’t change it by adding sugar. I’m almost done with my sample and this might end up being a buy-again tea. It resteeps nicely as well.
My first taste of this was just Rooibos. This may be because this sample is a little old. As it cooled, I tasted pastry and cinnamon, with some baked fruit underneath. At this point the peach is more present in the scent and the apple note present in the taste. The base tea is hefty and a little bitter. The tea is a litte drying in the mouth. The flavour is subtle but nice now that it has cooled a little. It does capture the pastry, cinnamon, and fruit of a crisp or cobbler.
I didn’t notice when I was ordering, but this green tea also has rooibos, which I am not a big fan of. I only double checked when I was smelling the dry leaf because it smelled strongly of caramel with a whiff of rooibos. After brewing, it smelled more strongly of rooibos to me. I really liked the level of sweetness from the caramel in this tea (not too overwhelmingly sweet), but it leaves a very typical medicinal rooibos aftertaste that I just can’t get over. It’s a real shame that I somehow don’t like rooibos, because this is a nice tea otherwise. The Persimmon Tree had a lot of really nicely flavored teas, but this is not the one for me.
I threw a sample of this in with my last order. I am very pleasantly surprised by this tea.
The first sip was cloyingly sweet, but after that the tea soon mellowed out and there’s only a faint sweetness cutting the earthiness of the pu’erh. If I don’t take a sip for a few minutes, it sweetens back up.
I quite like this. I’m not normally a pu’erh fan but I like this.

Tea #20 from the Here’s Hoping TTB
This is a tea that I have been meaning to try for awhile, it combines a lot of my favorite ingredients all in one blend, so I was glad to see it in the box. I made it hot, since it is such a chilly day, but sadly the mint took over and drowned out the other flavors. I think this may be even better when cold steeped because it would allow the floral flavors to develop more. Even without the floral flavors I still enjoyed this tea. I love peppermint tea, period. This had the added bonus of having a good dose of caffeine in it from the white base which I certainly needed today.
I’ll give this one another shot once the weather warms up and see how it does with a cold steep.
Preparation
Ack, I feel kinda bad because I’ve been drinking a lot of tea these days but don’t have time to log them. Anyway, since I’m drinking this for the first time, I’ll take a little break to write a short tasting note about it. The tea is very dark and has a pretty bold flavor. Reminds me of English Breakfast. Speaking of which, I’m not even fully sure of what constitutes an “English Breakfast” tea. Anyway, this tea is a nice bold starter for the mornings. It would probably taste less intense and a little nicer with some milk or sugar, but I’ve been trying to cut down on sugar sweetened beverages lately, so I just kind of sucked it up. A nice, strong tea, but I think I prefer English Breakfast by Persimmon Tree.
I don’t really get this tea. I’ve had lotus before as like a sweet paste in moon cake or similar Asian desserts, and this tea does not taste like that at all. The tea tastes more savory and less floral than I expected. It somehow also reminds me of some kind of ointment. Not really my cup of tea. Really interesting, though!
