Trying now the second cup of the sample i’ve gotten – and again pleasantly surprised by the soft- and easiness of this tea, which still owns enough character to be again fascinating. Will buy. Tomorrow ;)

Light, but as well aromatic. Darjelling-like, close to the softer First-flushs from there. A fine tea which needs to be “discovered” i think .. too bad i only got a sample, guess will have to buy some ;)

When you get a tea packed by germans, well, you get what you are supposed to get. Not many surprises there :)
This one is very yellow when steeped (pretty color), smells of freshly cut grass and is very grassy. Not sweet, slightly soury but not in a bad way. Very drinkable quality green tea.

Chuck Norris once got in a knife fight. The knife lost.

Smells kinda like the Dragon Well one did yesterday. Its bit more colored tho. Yellow to slightly greenish.
I’m expecting it to taste similar too cuz it looks very much alike with the only difference that this one has more stems and less leaves.
I was right. I like it maybe even bit more than Dragon Well. It’s the same taste with less sweetness. Very smooth and round taste. There is a hint of fresh grass in the taste. I like it. I really do.

Oh and yay i’m finally drinking some real teas!

We get along really well lately, this tea and I :) It’s awesome, even in multiple steeps. Really nice smell and taste that matches it. Definitely a candidate for my favorite green tea…

LoL OK 3 new teas (tea bags to be precise) again. This time they came as a gift from a cousin who lives in Germany. There comes something good out of annoying people with tea stories after all ;) For me at least. I’m seriously starting to be overcrowded with tea. Weird feeling.

Ya and i got 3 packages on the post office: one is Adagio teas, one should be an awesome t shirt. No idea what the third one is…

Back to the tea.
Leaves smell like fresh cut grass or something. Very nice real smell.
Color is yellow. Tea itself smells very herbal but different than dry leaves. Cant remember what it reminds me of.
Leaves are even bigger than white one from this morning. Quite bigger:

Hmmm is that weird smell jasmine? Would be easier to tell if i spoke German better :D It’s a very specific herbal taste, quite strong, and really not bad. Weird for me tho.
I Googled an english description:
China Lung Ching – Widely known as “Dragon Well,” Lung Ching is one of China’s “Ten Famous Teas” eagerly awaited each March and April. Meticulously plucked, withered and pan-fired to perfection, this premium grade tea is a masterful achievement of the balance between bitter and sweet. A sunshine yellow infusion presents contrast. Roasted chestnut resounds and bitter green undertones give way to a softer, sweeter hint of vanilla.

I’m getting the softness. Wouldn’t call it vanilla but ya i get what they meant. And it really is sweet. Quite.

So basically i like it but still find it weird. Or my taste buds do. They will get used to it soon. They always do. I can see this becoming one of those teas that give me cravings…

ROFL! I clicked on the first pic and squeeled “fishie teacups!” The other pic I just smiled, and then I read your little note and laughed :D I came close to purchasing a gaiwan that has fishies on it, but I couldn’t tell if they were in the bottom of the cup so I passed it over (plus the fishies weren’t as cute as yours). Those cups just make me happy :)

AmazonV

love the pictures…vanilla you say? hmm

malomorgen

@amayonv they said it in the dragonwell description. I wouldnt call it vanilla lol
@rabs i’ll gladly include the cups on most of my pics. it just takes them to another place right? if u want the link to my fishie cups i’ll post it later. i’m in the bus now lol

Rabs

I’d love the link :D

http://bit.ly/baOOuT there you go. it’s an ebay store and everything for me went smooth. they packed it well and it arrived like 3-4 weeks after ordering. b4 ordering i asked them what if they break in transport and they said they send new ones. so well good feedback from me. and you know how much i love them. they cost but i don’t regret at all ;) (i was trying to resist not buying them but didn’t manage lol, i took the first occasion to gift myself – that was my name-day)

Rabs

That’s awesome! I need to wait for my mid-month paycheck, but they’re sooo gonna be mine mwhahahahaaaa! But I will still love seeing them in your photos. :) I’m also really glad to know that you had a good experience with that store. They have a few gaiwans I was eyeballing but hadn’t heard anything about them as a company on Steepster or the like. Thank you so very much! :D

malomorgen

hehe, after you get them, i think our fishies should hang out ;)

Good cup for a bit surfing around after some shopping & eating in the city. Its typical Darjeeling aromas are somewhat subtle, but once you “learn” to taste them they are delicious. As usual for such first-season teas lacking a bit in depth, but instead got plenty of “freshness” :)

I recently received this from Ashley…thanks Ashley! I am always interested in trying teas from TeaGschwendner because I haven’t had many and they are not very easy for me to obtain.

I am looking at these REALLY low reviews and am nervous but many of you know as long as it’s vegetarian…I’ll try anything once…so…here-goes!

The blossoms are kinda freakin’ me out! They look like weird mini aliens or something! LOL

The peach aroma is lovely.

The leaves are plumping up and expanding in size quite a bit! The leaves themselves smell like a cross between an oolong and a flavored green. The color of the tea-liquid is that of a pale brown…similar to some oolongs I have seen. It smells mostly of peach with a bit of floral and even less woodsiness.

It has a very dry type taste. Not really any flavoring is coming thru. It almost tastes a little ‘dated’. I guess if one taste IS coming thru it would be close to an unflavored oolong type taste. It’s awful just doesn’t taste like much. Certainly nothing like what I expected based on the name, company, look, or SCENT of it while infusing.

Whereas this is drinkable it’s not what any company should aim for in any tea. I wouldn’t suggest this to anyone especially if they are new to yellow teas…it would just give them the wrong impression of a YELLOW tea.

great green oolong.
large, dark green leaves, which need much space! even in the dry state a attractive fragrant.
the infusion smells like summer, with vanilla, mango an litschi notes. has a fresh, green and fruity taste. even after the third infusion still an enjoyable.

Sipdown no. 125 of the year 2014. Happy dance! Currently, this is my least favorite tisane in my cupboard so the fact that it is no longer there is a cause for a minor celebration.

Apart from this herbal, I drank NO tea today. Was out of the house most of the day and constantly on the run. I’d really like to go to bed now but must get my writing exercise in for my class before I can crash.

As the name of this says, sleep tight, all!

I’m taking a mug of this to bed to watch the old version of The Manchurian Candidate.

The good news: I can see the bottom of the tin! The bad news: it’s another couple of servings before total sipdown.

We went out for dinner tonight at a Mexican place and I had two Margaritas. Oh hai!
Who’re you again?

sherapop

Great film! Much better than the remake (predictably)…

__Morgana__

I watched the remake two nights ago and the original last night. It was interesting to see what was considered dark and edgy in 1962. I really love Liev Schreiber so his appearance in the remake colored my opinion of the film, but I liked the choice in the remake to make Raymond Shaw a likeable character from the beginning.

It seems I was so successful in cutting the caffeine intake, I took a nap as soon as I got home from work while the BF had the kids at kung fu. I needed that. I need more than that, but it’s a start.

That also meant I didn’t have much tea today. Which is a bummer.

And now I’m having this.

When dry, this tisane is so fluffy it’s a little scary. I think I’m making a dent in it, but every time I open the tin it seems to have increased in volume rather than decreased. Obviously, this can’t be true. Or can it? (Twilight Zone music.)

I wish I liked this better than I do. Then I wouldn’t care if it was in fact a bottomless tin.

I’ve been working this into my rotation every night for the last few nights as I have a ton of it having bought the smallest available TeaG size and I’ve decided it’s something that needs to be sipped down.

Last night I was drinking it while watching Grey’s Anatomy (am I the only person in the world who still watches that show?) and I was actually getting a pretty nice note toward the end of the sip, something that crossed over from savory into sweet right at the end.

Not enough for me to bump the rating, but if it repeats, it’ll make the sipdown somewhat easier than I’d anticipated.

Fjellrev

Come to think of it, I don’t really hear anyone talk about that show anymore. But then again, I never got into it myself and maybe I’m just coincidentally hanging around non-GA fans.

__Morgana__

It sort of jumped the shark a long time ago, but I still watch it because I need something to amuse me and there aren’t enough shows I like to go around. ;-)

Jennkay

I got suckered back into watching it through a friend of mine (the only other person I know who is still watching). Something about medical dramas/sitcoms always gets me..

Nxtdoor

I fell behind this season because there is so much good tv lately (Homeland, True Detective, House of Cards, Californication, etc etc) but yes, I still watch.

If I’m honest with myself, I have to admit I really don’t like this as much as most of the other herbal blends I have in my stash at the moment.

It’s not nearly as problematic as the Teavana Tulsi Dosha Chai, because at least it doesn’t taste like something it has no business tasting like, i.e., something that should not be consumed by humans. But it’s too far to the savory side to be something I truly enjoy.

I think I’ve discovered I don’t really care for savory teas, or at least not savory herbal blends. I like floral, or fruity, or mint, or some really well done rooibos or honeybush where I don’t taste the rooibos or honeybush too much but it serves as a dessert flavor delivery mechanism. But not so much the brothy and the salty in my herbal blends.

There are some teas that have a savory note to them that I have enjoyed, but when it becomes the focus, it’s a little much for me. I really can’t escape the feeling that if I wanted a hot beverage with a savory flavor I would rather have a really nice soup, complete with veggies and some form of protein. Or at the very least I could just drink a cup of bouillon which I have been moved to do maybe four or five times in my life.

Bumping it down to ok land. Because it really is ok, it’s just not a top choice for me. It’s going into the sipdown soon pile right behind the Tulsi.

I seem to be having a run at savory flavored herbal blends these days. I didn’t realize I had so many in my stash. It’s particularly puzzling because, as I’m discovering having had them three nights in a row, I have a threshold for savory herbal blends and three nights in a row is well beyond that threshold. I’ve discovered that for me they are much more of a sometime thing. I’m not sure I’d think to have one all that often if I wasn’t reacclimatizing myself to my stash and finding that I have a number of them.

My original note on this indicated that is has a savory taste, and it does. And reading that note I’ve figured out why I think I find the savory flavor a sometime thing. It has a medicinal association for me. Not logical, but there you have it. Fortunately, the savory flavor isn’t as intense as it has been in some other tisanes I’ve had recently, like the Shanti Kapha Balance and of course the plain Holy Basil from Upton.

My previous note said this reminded me of chamomile, though there’s no chamomile in it. This time I’m not really tasting chamomile. Probably because I’ve had some really good (as chamomile goes) chamomile recently and I know how sweet it can taste. This tisane isn’t sweet.

I am noticing a sort of a minty cooling feel, though, which is also interesting because there’s no mint in this. I find it fascinating that I taste flavors in this that don’t originate in its ingredients.

It’s the kind of thing I’d drink if I had it around (as I’m doing now) but now that I know what it’s like, I’d likely choose another decaf option next time I order.

This was an afterthought while I was preparing my TeaGschwendner order. Though I wouldn’t have known had I not been moved to read the ingredients, it seemed something I ought to try as part of the perfect lemon search.

The dry leaves have an interesting, savory spice smell. I’m reminded of my experience with the Harney & Sons French Verveine. It looks like dried savory spices as well, except for the fairly large dried flower buds.

The liquor is a dark golden yellow. It has a savory aroma as well. Not smelling a lot of lemon here. In fact, I’m hard pressed to smell any at all.

The taste is a little surprising. I expected it to be heavy and brothy, but it isn’t. It isn’t light bodied, either. It’s medium bodied and had a somewhat silky mouthfeel. The flavor is intriguing. There’s a suggestion of lemon in there, but it’s not strong. Oddly, the flavor mostly makes me think of chamomile, though there is no chamomile in it. There is also the definite and predominant taste of a savory spice of some sort. Sage? Thyme? It’s the same general suggestion that I found in the Verveine, but not strong enough to suggest herbed roasted lemon chicken.

In any case, it’s not at all bitter or pungent, and it’s neither tart nor sweet. I’m not sure it would be my first choice for anything other than medicinal purposes, but if it works as a soporific I’ll be all over it.

Sipdown no. 2 of 2016 (223 total).

I had a lot of this, and we’ve been drinking it in quantity while the BF has had some respiratory thing. He quite likes it.

I like it as well, though I think drinking it in quantity isn’t really for me. I would prefer to drink it as a sometime thing. Primarily because I always think of this as a lemon tea, and it really isn’t all that lemony, at least not in an I Love Lemon sort of way. It’s more of a suggestion of lemon coming from the herbal ingredients as there’s no actual lemon fruit in this. It’s lemon in a grassy, herby sort of way, which is okay for me some of the time but not all of the time.

For this reason, I don’t think this is something I’m likely to reorder any time soon, though it is a quality, tasty blend with nothing at all I can point to as a downside other than that these days I’m favoring fruity tisanes over other types.

OMGsrsly

Hmmm… I should have a cup of this. :) If you manage to get a vanilla piece in the cup, I find the addition really nice.

Yeah, I agree.

The name of this cracks me up. (What happened to the first 1236 herbals?) It’s like the guy who named his boat “Lucky 2.”

I am excited, however, to be drinking an ingredient called Moldavian dragonhead. I feel tough just thinking about it.

My first note on this recorded surprise that I liked it as much as I did, and I agree with what I said before. It isn’t an overly lemony lemon tisane, and the vanilla isn’t enough to push it into the cream or chiffon camp. It’s got an herbally lightness to it that is more grassy sweet than sweet-sweet and the vanilla supplies more mellowness than actual flavor. It’s not a fruity lemon, but it’s a pleasant one nevertheless.

Courtney

Moldavian dragonhead sounds like something out of Harry Potter. Very cool.

__Morgana__

Apparently it is a blue flower that looks a little like a Texas bluebonnet, but what a sexy name!

OMGsrsly

So excited! This one is coming my way. I think I got it 50/50 for the lemon description and the moldavian dragonhead. :)

__Morgana__

Next time I try this I’m really going to look for the Moldavian dragonhead in the mixture. Apparently it tastes like lemon, though I mostly taste the lemon myrtle in this and lemongrass to a lesser extent. It would be interesting to isolate some dragonhead and see what it tastes like by itself.

Memily

Snortlol at notes!

Anna

LOL. What if it had actually been 1236 less stellar, retired herbals… I like companies that this, though, since I have good recall when it comes to numbers (easier to remember than names). With Mariage Frères, I started out just memorizing the numbers of the blends I wanted to try.

In other OCD news, TG’s number 1236 appears to have been cut, but number 1238 is a very evil-looking hibiscus tea!

__Morgana__

Oooooh, there’s actually a 1238, and there was actually a 1236? The plot thickens….
