Side complaint: Why is it that when I type in the tea I’m searching for, the box that drop down immediately shows the one I want, and then it quickly hides it and replaces it with a bunch of teas – some of which are barely related to my search? :| It’s annoying.
And on to this tea! I tried to give this away for the meet-up, but no one jumped on it. I wasn’t sure if I should keep it, but after steeping it I drank the whole cup, so yes. Yes I should. It’s one that I like but never expect to.
Tea, why are you so complicated?
With a name like this, I wasn’t sure I would like it; it sounds medicinal and ’it’s good for you so shaddup and drink it.’
It tastes like a refreshing mix of licorice and spices, with a bit of a kick that’s probably the cardamom. If it didn’t have the mate in it, it would make for an agreeable evening tea!
Oh, I’m describing things as ‘agreeable’ – must be because I’m reading Jane Austen again. I haven’t read Northanger Abbey before, but I’m enjoying the satire immensely. It’s also a nice change from Anna Karenina, which I finally managed to finish for the Steepster book club, as this is much lighter.
I hope you enjoy it if you do. I first read it as a teen and I like it, but it wasn’t until I re-read it later on that I fully appreciated Austen’s wit. Now reading P&P or S&S is like comfort food for me, although I know I should branch out more!
This tea is just okay. I prefer DavidsTea Organic Silk Dragon Jasmine to this. I feel that this tea is just too much Jasmine and not enough anything else. Also a very fickle tea, goes bitter quickly so it is important to watch for temp and steeping time.
Preparation
What an interesting tea! It’s not often that one comes across a savoury herbal tea, never mind a savoury tisane that isn’t disgusting. I really enjoy the blend of traditional tea herbs (mint, blossoms, eucalyptus) with cooking herbs (rosemary, sage). It reminds me of going for a hike in the woods. It’s also great for when you’re stuffed up (I drink it whenever, but I’m sure many aren’t into drinking a “sticks and twigs” tea when they aren’t ill).
Preparation
When my mom came here for the holidays, she brought a whole load of tea, some that was mine, some hers that she can no longer drink for health reasons (sounds ironic), so here I am drinking the last of this three-year-old tea.
Not a rooibos fan so of course this smells and tastes too much like wood. The aroma is very mildly berryish but not in an obvious way. As for the flavour, I can detect a hint of strawberry but it’s a little artificial.
Glad this is out of the way.
Cold-brewed with lemon! Very nice. I like having a jug of whatever on the go all the time now. It’s nice having a choice that isn’t pop or juice in the fridge when water isn’t cutting it. ;)
Preparation
I agree! Iced tea is so handy! And you don’t have to worry about it getting cold or over-steeping as much either!
Did you see DavidsTea is promoting teapop? I’m totally curious about what it’ll be like – gonna have to grab club soda and give it a try!
Yesss! I never worry about oversteeping.
I saw that tweet but I haven’t looked at it. It sounds like something I wouldn’t be into but that K would LOVE.
Yeah my hope is that J will like it and I can slowly get him addicted to tea toO! :O He likes pop bc of the caffeine and carbonation but doesn’t want all the sugar. This is perfect!
This tastes really simple and plainish for the amount of things that are apparently jammed into this blend (black tea, pineapple bits, mango bits, apple treaters, hazelnut leaves, sour cherry halves, flavour, sunflower blossoms, rose hip peels, rose blossom leaves, mallow blossoms, marigold blossoms, peppermint leaves). To me, it was dark/strong black tea with a bit of citrus/flowery on top. Nothing identifiable. Maybe that’s the goal with a blend like that, idk. Very breakfast-tea for me!
Preparation
I think I figured out why I don’t love this tea – it’s the chocolate flavour again.
I ran out of David’s Birthday Cake, and had to order more online because the local shops have been out of it for a few days. I’ll drink this one in the meantime, but I definitely prefer the intense dessert flavour of the birthday cake.
Preparation
This one smells better than it tastes. Chocolatey and sweet, I don’t really get a lot of strawberry from it. The rooibos flavour is fairly prominent, and there’s a bit of a floral note that I guess is from the rose.
Drunk with milk and a tiny bit of honey I don’t love it, but it is a nice cup of hot desserty stuff. I will definitely drink the 50g I have, but won’t repurchase.
Preparation
As someone who isn’t a big fan of black teas, I am in love with Ginger Fresh Peach. It has the right amount of ginger with the sweet freshness of peach.
Preparation
I steeped this for 12 minutes by mistake.
Guys: DO NOT DO THAT.
(This is not a tea that oversteeps well). I took a sip and it burned my mouth with all the smoke. I had to dump it, and I wasn’t ready to try that again)
Gah. I’ve actually been nervous to try a smoky tea but I’ll remember not to oversteep it under any circumstances now haha!
That sounds like quite the experience! This kind of tea is usually potent enough even when you understeep it.
Courtney – they are polarizing teas. I like them, but understand why people wouldn’t.
CrowKettle- it WAS potent. My tester sip was so intense I didn’t even want to try to make another cup. Just kept movinh!
IndigoBloom- that’s a great idea
I’ve never experimented with tea and cooking.
I drank two more cups of the White Peony sample and that’s the end of that. Man! White tea is expensive but it’s so good. I wonder if DT is having a hard time selling their straight blends (because they had that $1 promo to entice us, and it seems like they have a lot to get rid of at 50 cents).
Time for smoky tea to mix things up. I’m so sleepy though so the smoke is going to my head and making me feel a bit dizzy. I wonder if a vanilla tea would be awesome with this. Maybe another day I’ll try it.
I bought this for Steepster’s book club: we’re reading Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. A Russian Caravan would have been better suited but I saw this at the mall and went for it. I wanted a smoky tea anyway and this makes me think of warming up by a fire in the winter. And winter fits well enough with the book… (which is really good so far too. I shouldn’t have any problems finishing it by Jan 25).
It smells STRONGLY of smoke. Happily, it doesn’t taste as strong as it smells but I can see this wouldn’t be for everyone.
I’d rate it higher but I think this is more of an occasional tea, instead of an all-the-time one so I won’t need to restock it as often.
Preparation
This is such a wonderful warming tea. I love how it just kicks around in my mouth with no rush to leave, oh so nice and smokey goodness.
I resteeped this, too, which I rarely do & it’s still wonderful.
Preparation
I should probably stop resteeping my non-oolong teas or I will never drink them all before they go stale!
This is LOOOOVELY! It’s like camping! Smokey and tree-ish and campfirey and nom nom nom nom. I think I need to have this on hand – I’ve never had a tea like this!
Preparation
A lovely sample from Kittenna! thanks, it’s pretty good!!
It’s not often I find a softer chai like this. With milk and sugar, my cuppa was mild and yet punchy all at once. The cloves and ginger don’t overtake everything either, which I was kinda worried about.
I wonder what the base tea is.
It’d be awesome to have it in my cupboard for those days where it is just what I’m craving. BUT I don’t love it enough to go out and purchase a bunch.
… If you like it enough for me to give you like 50g, I’d be more than happy to. It’s a tea I got a 250g bag of from my ex’s mom, and that’s just WAY too much for me to get through…
Weird. It doesn’t say anything about lemons in the ingredients, but it’s all I can taste, along with the black tea base. It’s good, but not amazing.
It IS amazing if you eat it with Devil’s Food Cake Cupcakes…
Preparation
I can see why this wasn’t a big hit with you! It’s v flowery and Earl Greyish. We liked it though. Strong + black = breakfast tea ACHIEVED!
Awesome. Glad you liked it. I hope I sent you a big sample. I can send more?
And it’s not terrible, it just didn’t wow me.
I think this tea is on the way out as Tea Desire has it on clearance.
It’s a pretty decent black, with a nice base and a fruity/strawberry finish that creeps up on you. It also has a nice mouthfeel (my new favorite word). I like it, but I’m not blown away. Maybe this would be better iced? Or with agave? I have 50g so I’m sure that will last for a long time.

I’ve noticed the search bar is a bit weird still too, maybe it’s still a bug from the update :(
That’s been driving me insane too. I just started going to the company’s page already.
that’s been bugging me…. but here’s a new one, try typing in ‘indian’ as in ‘indian nimbu’ and read what pops up 7th from the top. i was underwhelmed.
Fourth from the top for me, James!
Ha! Tenth from the top for me.
should we rewrite the information? offer scathing ratings? i did tattle, but i imagine jason’s been busy debugging stuff lately. seriously unbelievable that they would think to advertise here!
I like the idea of trolling it. :D
heh heh heh….. brb.
