This tea is another from a sampler pack of bagged tea on my quest to reduced some of the nearly finished boxes of bagged tea in my tea cupboard. I brewed a cup of Gunpowder Green Tea earlier while waiting for dinner to cook at the same time I made the husband the Vanilla Bean. It tasted lightly of green tea with no bitterness. I saved the bag, in case the re-steeping the Vanilla Bean experiment went well, to try re-steeping. Since it did, I’m glad I did. I’m surprised I never tried to re-steep bagged tea before.
Preparation
I like most Numi Teas and this is the first with which I’ve been a bit disappointed. This tea tastes like pink lemonade to me. Which is fine if you want pink lemonade, but if you want a black tea with a strong berry flavor, you won’t be happy. I think Numi needs to limit the hibiscus and rosehips which overwhelm any berry flavor.
Visually the tea is very pretty but we cannot live on vision alone.
Overall, Numi is a great company and this experience won’t deter me from trying their other blends.
Preparation
I LOVE this tea! It is my favorite so far. I always drink a cup before I go to bed and it relaxes me to the max. I make it with a little bit of honey and the combined flavors create such a delicious and soothing taste. It always makes me feel so calm and want to sleep. It reminds me of a sweet black tea with strong flavors but its not and its decaffeinated so drink it to calm your nerves. I recommend it to anyone!
I have found this to be my absolute favorite oolong since I tried it. It holds a wonderful golden color, and the aroma is slightly smoky with a touch of sweetness. Once I started drinking it, I noticed a slight floweriness, and a decently strong (woodiness?) I honestly haven’t been able to truly describe it. Either way, the raisiny sweetness combines with it perfectly. best cuppa in a long time.
Preparation
I’ve never had any other magnolia-scented teas, so I’m not sure how to rate this one. I like it, but am not enamored with it. Not like jasmine, anyway. I probably won’t buy it often, but it does in a pinch. I’m having some now with a few drops of lemon in it. The lemon doesn’t detract, but actually compliments.
Preparation
If you like the flavor of cloves, you should love this tea. I’ve enjoyed it before but I just had a “critical cup”—i.e. one in which I thought about the qualities of the tea instead of just slurping it down. It’s one of the richest rooibos teas I’ve enjoyed. I let it steep for a long time and then drank it slowly. As time passed, the cloves became the dominant aroma and taste. That’s great for me because I’ve always loved clove.
I think that this will become one of those teas that I must have in stock—a destination tea for when I need to be perked up in the evening and caffeine is verboten.
Preparation
Waking up today was so hard! Snuck this for free at breakfast. Not a super rich coloring. I’m not adverse to the sweetness of this blend, but I do tend to like really spicy chai, and this was not spicy enough for my tastes, even when I left the tea bag in (thus my long steep). Probably doesn’t require sugar given the sweetness of the rooibos, but milk is always a given for me with chai.
Nice enough for me to take for free when I need some caffeine in the morning, but not good enough to sway me away from buying other blends I like better. And the cranberry chocolate scone that accompanied my cup definitely didn’t hurt!
Preparation
Another one-note tea from Numi. The clear mint taste reminds me of a wintergreen/spearmint/pepperming mélange. It’s an excellent tea for quite evening work.
I believe strongly that a local restaurant serves this precise tea as their special “Comfot Tea” and it indeed is a consoling, friendly, and generous drink.
Preparation
This is a great tea for lime lovers. It’s got a single, solid note. People seem to love it or hate it.
I drink this occasionally with a small cube of demerara sugar. Mostly I use it as a base for a --(and please sit down and don’t get upset)—soothing drink for those who suffer from a bad cough or sour throat. Add one or two cough drops, some sugar or honey, and stir well. My children love it! And why not use tea for medicinal purposes?
