I have been hoarding this sample because I am so madly in love with it. Seriously, I could have this and no other matcha and be happy because it is THAT good. I cannot thank Cavocorax enough for sharing this with me. It is more caramel than the caramel matcha and has a nice buttery popcorness to give it just that much more flavor. So delicious!
Alas, after this cup, I only have one more serving left and the last 1/2 tsp is going off to my matcha loving friend. I debated about not sharing at all but I made a compromise and decided to share 1/2 tsp instead of the typical tsp I send.
Flavors: Butter, Caramel, Cream
I was watching a youtube video and dying of laughter and thought to myself “there are definitely some steepsters who will enjoy this”. That inspired me to go make some tea so I could share the link and still have a reason for posting :P. So basically you guys are slowly creeping into my thoughts more and more…steepster is taking over my life.
Well without further adieu, here is a hilariously adorable of Misha Collins (Castiel from Supernatural) allowing his son to cook thanksgiving dinner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90tZUltzRBc#t=495. Enjoy!
As for this matcha…
I used a 1/2 tsp in 8 oz of milk for a delicious caramel popcorn treat. There is not much to say other than this is truly an AMAZING matcha. In fact, today might be more popcorn that caramel and that is still delicious. Buttery and oh so sweet. The perfect snack for watching a great clip. Thank you Cavocorax so much for sending this my way. I don’t think I ever would have bought 30 g but having tasted it I think I might end up ordering 60 :P.
They put the recipe at the end. It is pretty amazing. I especially like the creative use of the beaters.
buwahahahahahaha! that was awesome…. such a good dad! most parents would have killed that pretty early on.
haha. There are more too. This was definitely not something that was good to find when I have work I need to do. I am watching this one now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToTVFEHZhX4. I am about 2 minutes in and cannot stop laughing.
Also, further proof we’re kindred spirits: http://steepster.com/roswellstrange/posts/205786#comments You know, just to add to the already vast list ;)
Montreal is freezing! As in I-got-brain-freeze-and-my-legs-went-numb-in-the-20-minutes-it-took-to-walk-home freezing. So, when I got home at 5:50 from class, I had to make the decision to turn around and be responsible and go to Body Pump or to walk in, start my weekend early, and drink copious amounts of tea. I chose the latter. I dumped the cold mug of Cinnamon Chocolate Brownie into a glass and started the kettle to brew two fresh cups.
While I waited, I remembered I haven’t had any milk today which meant MATCHA. Specifically this one which I have been thinking about all day! Cavocorax, I honestly don’t know how I can thank you for sharing this with me because it is truly amazing!!! I taste caramel more in this than I did in the plain caramel matcha. And the popcorn just adds a layer of butteriness and flavor that just makes this sooooooooo goooood. I am in love! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
Oh and a side note. My sweats are all in the laundry so I put on the next warmest thing I own…a batman onesie. Complete with cape and cowl. So that sort of elevates this a tad as well :P
haha. It is pretty awesome. It is one of three onsies I own. One of the onesies, a sock monkey onesie, I actually got for $1 because the Target employee screwed and scanned it through as chocolate. My mom and I didn’t realize until we got home a few hours later.
Ick, Batman. I’m totally a Marvel girl (Spiderman ForEVAH). I have Spiderman Bedsheets/blankets/pillows/toques/hoodies/t-shirts/jewelry. My Onesie is sock monkeys though…
Roswell Strange, I would say our friendship is over but I too love me some Marvel. I have an Avengers sweater lying on my bed next to me and a Spiderman tee-shirt which is in the laundry. However, I grew up as the younger sister of a Batman loving brother. In fact, we call his car the batmobile because I decked it out in all things batman a few years back (as in seat covers, steering wheel covers, break light stickers so when he breaks it is the batman symbol) and we have home video of him saying he is batman at only 2 years old. I grew up with it :)
You made two, no three great decisions. 1) eff body pump when it’s cold; 2) Onesys are where it’s at; and 3) you had tea. You win.
Though I also grew up with X-men (last year I got my brother this huge Wolverine pez dispenser for his birthday :P), Spiderman, Deadpool, etc. Basically there was a lot of comic books and superheros around (the perks of an older brother).
I’ll admit to having one favourite DC “Hero” (not really an apt character description) whom I was reminded of thanks to your Monk’s blend tasting note, additionally. When I try to explain him to people, they always think I’m lying! I grew up with X-Men too; they’re right up there with Spiderman, though personally I don’t really love Wolverine all too much.
I actually wasn’t into Wolverine much either. I liked Storm and Rogue but that may have more to do with their gender than their actual powers. Though their powers are pretty cool.
Also, they actually filmed the most recent X-men movie in Montreal. I had a couple of friends stalk the set in hopes of finding Jennifer Lawrence, Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, and James McAvoy.
Now this is funny because I didn’t know until today that they MADE onesies for adults. I thought of them only as the things you put babies in! Of course, living where I do now (my son wore shorts to school today… I know, I’m sorry) there is not much need for this sort of bodily envelopment except a few nights a year, but I love the idea!
I adored Rogue, Iceman, Storm, Nightcrawler, Mystique, and Azazel! No one I knew was able to understand how excited I was at the inclusion of Azazel in First Class. They just totally set it up to kind of delve into Mystique/Azazel’s plotlines with Nightcrawler – though I doubt they actually will go that route…
I felt so bad for Azazel and Riptide. They were kinda just left as background characters the whole time. Actually, I mostly felt bad for Riptide given they didn’t even mention who he was. Like if you had never read the comics, he was sorta just a bonus mutant who was there.
Neither did I but I still felt bad that they sorta just tossed him in as filler. He really did not need to be in the movie other than Shaw needed more people on his team.
Caramel popcorn and milk, who knew?!? This is actually amazing. I opened the package and got the whiff of buttery popcorn. I worried that would combine strangely in a glass of cold milk but prepped this way, the popcorn is present but topped by an oh so creamy caramel. Truly delicious! Thank you so much Cavocorax for sending this my way.
Sipdown!! (207)
Thank you Cavocorax (and also Crow Kettle) for sending this my way. I actually did not have enough to equal a 1/2 tsp so I also need to thank MissB for sending me the tasty cheesecake matcha that I used to round out the 1/2 tsp. So techinically this worked out to be a tasty pumpkin pie cheesecake matcha complete with the pumpkin pie spices and the cheesecake creaminess. Now if only there was that yummy cheesecake tang…
Anyways, I have learned something quite curious from this matcha. For some reason, the white base does not mix nearly as well or as easily as the green tea base. Plus it makes the milk froth significantly more so it is like drinking pumpkin spice foam, which is pretty tasty.
Once again, thank you Cavocorax and MissB for making this tasty study break treat possible :)
I have three very large swaps from MissB, Cavocorax, and now Roswell Strange. I also have another swap from Eve so I am trying to balance out trying teas from all the swaps. I decided if I went with Hot Apple Ginger Toddy that covers tea from MissB and Cavo since they both sent me a sample and then I could grab something out of the package from Roswell Strange. Then as the water was boiling I remembered the two types of matcha I needed to try in the swap box from Cavocorax and got very excited.
So technically this is my first tea of the day. I whipped it up in some milk (Yay for having milk again!) while waiting for the other tea to cool just a tad. I very quickly realized white base matcha does not mix in milk quite as nicely as green base. Nonetheless, this ended up being a tasty cup that was fairly reminiscent of pumpkin pie. It had a nice amount of pumpkin spice and the milk gave it the creaminess that is so awesome. It did not have the richness of the pumpkin flavor but that is a hard flavor to match when it comes to a powder. All in all I enjoyed it so thank you Cavocorax (and by extension CrowKettle) for this delicious cup.
In other news, I am happy to announce that Robert is kindly reshipping my lost Red Leaf Tea order. Here’s hoping that this time it actually gets delivered to me and not someone else.
Yay for re-shipping it to you! I think the same thing has happened to my last Whispering Pines order. :(
Bumped up rating! I made this into a hot latte, and this was a total tea moment. Ahh so happy with this latte! Though I may be this happy because it came out perfect and usually it takes me a while to make a perfect cup. Noob. haha. I basically followed the instructions in the pamphlet but also eyed ball the measurements.
I heated about 10 oz of milk in the microwave, for about 1 minute though every 15 seconds I would stop it to stir.
In another cup added about 1 and a half scoops of Matcha (I used Teavana’s spoon which is smaller than David’s Tea sorry I dont know the measurements)
I poured about 2 oz of hot water in 175 F.
Whisked it a bit, which is easy because it doesnt get clumpy like other matchas.
Poured in about 6 oz of the hot milk. (Then I tried it but then it tasted really egg noggy)
So I added about a scoop of French Vanilla Syrup, then stirred.
The rest of the hot milk I frothed it up and added to the cup.
I was literally high off of my latte. It was perfection. The best part was that I was listening to “Lovely Cup” by GroupLove.
PS yes it was perfect but I won’t purchase the egg nog flavor.
Preparation
Hi! Oh my goodness I haven’t been on steepster in awhile! I’m at my office and I whipped some of this matcha, this might be weird but I actually mixed everything up in a protein bottle and shaker! Not too bad and this matcha definitely gave me the energy I need. I noticed the past couple nights, I’ve been having problems of sleeping, like I’m not comfortable in my bed.
Anyways, I received my 52teas order so I should be logging soon. I also have a lot of teas logs to post. Also, anyone tried davids mint to be yet? Cherry blossom is also coming back for spring too. Oh and there is a glass Nordic mug too!! Ugh, too many things to buy too little money to spend lol.
I finally got my Red Leaf Order!! Yay yay!!!!!!!
This was a sample and honestly, you guys can totally bash me on this but I’ve never had eggnog before! I definitely know what it consists of but never tried it or had anything remotely near eggnog. When I first opened the package, it was beautiful! Smells like creamy vanilla and maybe a hint of nutmeg? Anyways, in the package it came with a pamphlet and I literally read everything. It’s really helpful and honestly good internal marketing. With this matcha I decided to make a cold latte. I took a teaspoon of matcha, whisk it with a bit of milk, then it added about a cup of milk and froth it all up. Let me tell you, this matcha is crazy good. Though I tend to like my matcha a little sweeter so I added a bit of vanilla syrup. But all is well I really like this, and I’m glad that my matcha experience went amazing. I do have to say though, I won’t order this particular flavor again, but I can’t wait to try the others!!
Having this in vanilla almond milk and all I am getting is lemon. Very, very strange.
All I got for the last few cups of mine was lemon. Bizarre. I still swear it has something to do with reading lemon zest as a flavour. Mind over matter type thing.
Except I hadn’t read that prior to drinking mine so I suppose it really is there and the almond milk highlighted it?
I was talking to a friend about this matcha which got me craving a cup. The sample I originally had was delicate and I quite liked it but my purchase was for the distinctive level and I am getting quite a grassy taste. I will have to try underleafing (underpowdering?) and see how that goes because right now it is like indulging in creamy grass.
I had the Belgium Chocolate that I bought in MissB’s stash sale earlier today but I completely forgot to log it. I think I sort of just drank it absentmindedly while doing some work which is sad because my matchas are always such a tasty part of my day.
Luckily I get to have two so I am having this one, the other matcha I bought in MissB’s stash sale. I actually bought some of this from Red Leaf Tea directly but that is trapped in my fridge in Florida until I can go and get it back. Until then, I have this to hold me over. It is really quite delicious. It is so creamy and adds a nice vanilla flavor to the milk. I don’t know how accurately it represents Bavarian Cream but it tastes good and I suppose that has to count for something.
Thank you MissB for sending this my way :)
ETA: So I looked up Bavarian Cream on wikipedia because I knew there was something more than just vanilla in this cup. It had almost a bit of tang, for lack of a better word. Turns out Bavarian Cream is flavored with liqueur and I think that is the other flavor I am getting. So I suppose this is a pretty aptly named matcha.
I wasn’t so sure on this one when I first got it, and without my realizing it, it quickly became one of my favourites.
At first, I thought it was just a vanilla and I couldn’t quite put my finger on why I was enjoying it more than the other vanilla tasting ones I had. Now I realize I like the tang. However, I have a tiny bit of an obsession with the caramel popcorn one and keep finding myself going for that and then having to fight it so I don’t run out.
Ahh temptation. I have only one matcha left in my cupboard now. I’ll have to start contemplating a new order in the next couple months.
Backlog: Right now I am having the most INSANE craving for either carrot cake, carrot cake cheesecake, or a cronut. Something about the creaminess of those desserts are calling to me. Alas, I do not have any of those things and even if I did, it would be highly frowned upon that I eat them. What I do have is a ripe banana and a package of Bavarian matcha courtesy of the wonderful MissB.
I have no idea what Bavarian Cream is supposed to taste like but it sounded like it might hit the spot. Unfortunately, I forgot to grab milk while I was out so I stole a glass of almond milk from my roommate. Together the flavors are creamy and sweet with a hint of nuttiness. I don’t think there is anything particularly distinctive but it is creamy and delicious and actually helping a bit with the cravings.
Thank you MissB for sending this my way :)
Sipdown!! (212 as the rest is off to a friend)
Thank you MissB for sharing this with me. It is definitely one I have been meaning to taste for a long time. With that said, at the delicate flavoring level, I feel it leaves something to be desired. It is creamy and smooth but there is nothing distinctively cheesecake about it. I would be curious as to whether the flavor comes out at a stronger flavor level.
This is a weird experience because I know I am having cheesecake matcha but if I don’t pay attention, it sort of seems like I am drinking very creamy milk. There is no strong cheesecake flavor so it sort of just bumps up the creaminess and makes the milk sweeter. It is very tasty, don’t get me wrong, but it is not cheesecake. Perhaps it would be more pronounced if it were distinctive or robust? Nonetheless, this is still very good so thank you MissB for sharing this with me.
Preparation
keychange got me thinking about cheesecake and this was sitting in the package from MissB just begging to be tried.
This is delicious! I don’t know if I would call it cheesecake but it is sweet and creamy and delicious. I would think this were a vanilla flavored matcha rather than cheesecake but I am happy nonetheless.
Preparation
Sipdown!! (of sorts as the last tsp is being sent to my matcha loving friend so she too can taste it)
So I think my initial love of this has died down just a touch but I still really enjoy it. Yes, it is a tad chemical tasting but I find that gives it a store-bought quality as opposed to a homemade apple pie. Still apple pie nonetheless. Thank you MissB for sharing this with me. I might not have tried it otherwise and now it is something I would consider ordering :).
I mixed up a cup of this when steeping some other teas and drank it while I waited. I was wondering why it was as flavorful today as I remembered it being in previous cups. Then I got the the bottom and realized I did not properly mix the matcha and it all collected. The last sip was like drinking a tiny lump of chemicals. Yeah, it was not fun. However, when this is prepared properly it is a delicious piece of apple pie so I still love it.
Ech, too bad some of the flavourings taste so darn chemically. But good to know that this one could be salvaged.
I think when it is mixed throughout the cup of milk, the hint of chemical almost adds to it. It is like having a store-bought apple pie a la mode. However, when you get it all at once, it is just not good.
Yea, I find that with any matcha – flavored or otherwise. If I mix it poorly, the gunk at the bottom is… blergh.
In other related news, I just got an email from Robert. He has two new matcha flavors starting in February: Orange/Vanilla and Chocolate/Raspberry.
I just dumped my dinner all over the kitchen counter :(. Luckily I have some extra food from the extra order Jenny Craig delivered so while I wait, I am enjoying this tasty cup of matcha excellence.
This and caramel popcorn are really ones that should not work but work oh so well. They really are a decadently tasty treat. Thank you MissB for sharing!!.

Yum!
Wow, I always ignored this one.
I am not a fan of caramel popcorn so it is not something I would have thought twice about if people didn’t review it so positively. Even then I would not have bought 30 g so I am glad Cavocorax was willing to send me a sample. Now I would be happy to buy 60 g.
This is going on my ‘try someday’ list! :) Whenever I run out of the regular caramel…
