Very Bitter, NO steep time at all for me just rinse for 10 secs to let it open, the pour boiling water over it and right back off again thats all it takes. can be used over and over and dosent seem to quit but there is realy no need for more than just a few cups, i use it medicinally and not for taste. It takes only one “stick” of this to do what i mentioned above. Also I have way too much of this tea So if you would like to try some just let me know ill be glad to share.
Preparation
This is a nice addition to the world of Earl Greys…bergamot shines here with the aroma of lemon grass and oranges right behind. It’s nice..if you like Earl Greys. How did they conceive of this in other Russia? Maybe the Silk Road or something? Do they really drink this in Russia or is it some British invention? I’m a little too lazy to Google it right now..I need to finish the tea.
Preparation
Not sure how I feel on this one.
My first cup came out weak so I waited a few days to try again. Added more tea to the cup & let it steep a little longer the second time & it had a funky chemical taste to it. Oddly enough, the smell during brewing was good. Made me think of warm banana bread baking.
The second cup did not impress me.
So I waited again a few more days & tried a third cup.
Still not convinced I like it. I want to like it because I love the idea of the banana flavoring, but this does not work for me.
Drank this green tea at the office this afternoon. Used water below a boil. On first steep the strawberry taste was very obvious, on second the more delicate green tea flavors were present. Nothing subtle or sneaky about this tea – a pretty good green with flavors. I will brew the remainder of my sample pack but will likely not be obtaining any more for my tea cabinet.
In short, it did deceive me in how it smelled before I brewed it. I did like it though. I think This tea might be good for next time I make homemade chai.
I review this tea in grater detail in my blog (http://whethertothink.blogspot.com/2011/11/cinnamon-black-tea.html) if any one cares to look.
Preparation
So, I was at a Chinese market a while back and went into the tea isle which is about 50 feet long…there I see Rose Black loose leaf tea 80z for maybe $1.99. I had to get it….damn it tasted like nothing…so, I was jaded.
When I saw Rose Black as a sample at enjoyingtea.com, I had to give it a try.
Nice tea, a real rose/floral flavor. Not too strong either way-the tea or the rose. It’s soothing and definitely worth brewing
I like Cinnamon as a spice, but I also feel it has it’s place in the Culinary World. It’s often overused and added when not needed. I tend to stray away from anything that’s cinnamon flavored, because they tend to use the wrong variety.
This tea I really enjoy and has a pleasing cinnamon taste without all that pungency. The type sometimes used reminds me of a craft store during the Holidays-not this tea. I won’t drink it all the time, but when I’m in the mood for a spice, without complication, I’ll go for this Tea.
Of course, anyone who enjoys cinnamon will probably really like it
Preparation
In continuing with my chai mood of sort, I decided to try this Mocha chai sampler.
It is Ceylon tea containing chocolate bits, this makes the taste bitter regardless of how much sugar is added. It is that dark chocolate bitterness for an after taste to one’s palette.
Preparation
I gave in the other morning and opted for a cup of this top grade Indian tea. As I opened the tin I was pleasantly surprised with the aromas, mostly the lemon-grass in the scent.
Prevailing notes: lemon grass, ginger, cinnamon, coriander and black pepper. This I came at after tasting the grinds left at bottom of the cup. The pepper does add quite a kick to the chai, I enjoyed this with sugar, no cream or soy, next time perhaps.
It is definitely a full bodied spice tea…true Hindi tea. I enjoyed drinking this throughout the day and found it remaining as steady when first sipped. And if there was caffeine there was no effect from the fullness in the body.
Preparation
OK Steepsterians, I finally found my Chai yesterday. Before I begin, I just want to say it took me forever to upload this picture of the tea-others I have uploaded were easy. The aroma from my tin was so good. I could definitely smell the cardamom, coriander, & black pepper. I couldn’t detect any ginger (maybe because of my previous experience with Yamamotoyama’a Ginger Tea), or cinnamon. *Note on cinnamon* Upon drinking another cup (08-13), I noted possible light background notes of cinnamon in the aroma of steeped leaves. Hard for me to detect, because most other cinnamon in Chai’s I’ve drank have had stronger presence in aroma and flavor.
I first brewed it hot at 4 minutes, and it was very good. It was even better at 5 minutes. The flavors of cardamom, coriander, and especially the black pepper were more intense, but the tea was not bitter at all. The Ceylon base tea was not masked by the spices, rather it was quite noticeable. This probably was because it was a very small leaf (a CTC by the looks of it), making the base tea stronger in the cup. Overall the wet leaf & spices were more aromatic, as compared to the cup aroma.
The flavor of black pepper was dominant-WOW! WHAT A KICK!. The coriander and cardamom were not shy either. I just missed having a cup of chai, the intense flavors coated my tongue….and stayed with me for quite a while, which I really like in a good Chai tea. If the cinnamon and ginger flavors were there, I didn’t notice them. This Cochin Chai was spicy and not sweet. A little sweetener could change that, but I drink it plain-only occasionally adding a drop of milk (to barely color the cup), and not diluting the flavor. Very delicious!! Rating: 92.
Iced it was very good as well, very refreshing. Same spices prevalent as in the hot tea, but just a little less so. Didn’t notice quite as much in the aromatics either. Still quite spicey and delicious! Rating: 88.
Brewing specs below are for hot and iced tea.
Cupped & rated on Fri, 08-12-11.
Preparation
1.3g tea, 2oz water, 160F, 60sec
Brewed this is very cherry scented.
It’s flavor isn’t very robust at all. Nothing like the Sakura Sencha from Den’s that I just had a bit earlier today.
It’s very light with no bitterness. It has a not-overwhelming cherry flavor to it and a bit of what I guess is the rose (I’m not good at recognizing that taste yet, no real experience with it so far). Basically, it tastes like a middle of the road cherry green tea. Nothing special or catching about it.
Preparation
Nope, didn’t like it NOR think it’s good quality.
The smell of the steeped tea is lovely; all black tea and richly raspberry.
The taste has no raspberry in it, is all bitter, stinging black tea. The Ceylon isn’t even pleasant in this. The whole of it would be more suited to nasty medicine than a tea.
Preparation
The steeped tea is yellow, with a strong fresh apple scent… sort of a tart, maybe green apple.
The tea isn’t sweet or apple-juice toned at all. It’s a touch bitter and astringent and has only the lightest, barest hint of fruit to its finish… and that seems more plummy than apple.
As it cools it takes on more of the taste of a green (maybe granny smith) apple’s skin. It doesn’t have a flesh or juice taste.
The more I drink, the less I like it. Not finishing the cup.
Preparation
Enjoying a nice cup of Dragon Well this evening. Warm and soothing, and quite refreshing too.
Here’s my full-length review of this tea: http://sororiteasisters.com/2011/04/23/dragon-well-green-tea-lung-ching-from-enjoying-tea/
A wonderfully soothing and restorative cup. I’ve had a rather busy day although I’ve found moments to enjoy the tea, especially earlier today. This is a little later than I like to be sipping on caffeinated teas, but, I really needed a little something to invigorate me, and this is what I chose.
It’s a lovely Dragon Well. Pleasant, nutty, sweet with notes of grassy/vegetal taste. Nice.
All you’d expect from a Lapsang—super smoky, piney and bacony! I’m finding this really yummy right now.
Smoky and rich and flavorful. Yet strangely refreshing (from the pine?).
This experience is so different from my first note. Back then I was “meh” but now I’ve been “wow”-ed!! (Upping the rating!)
Strange how perceptions can differ from time to time with the same tea, huh?
Preparation
Having another cup of this tea while writing a review of it for The Tea Review Blog. Pleasantly sweet with a light grassy taste. A nice fruity note in the background – the description suggests that it is plum-like, and I’d agree with that comparison.
Tasty and refreshing.
