I made a cup of this, a bit earlier this morning and I probably oversteeped. The class started while I was waiting for the silly kettle to boil… grrr. I think I like it a bit better this way. I used the same cup I used for Oh Canada (first thing this morning) I’m not sure if that made a difference but it’s incredibly yummy! okay back to class for me :D
Preparation
Yum! Tried it per the “add a little sugar” suggestion from Butiki Teas. You can just barely taste the chocolate, and it’s a beautiful amber color. I don’t think I got it quite hot enough when I steeped it, though.
This was a sample thrown in (thanks, Stacy!) with an another order. It’s on the shopping list for real now.
Preparation
Sipdown! Thanks to tattooed_tea I’ve had this before as a sample from stacy but i was happy to revisit this again since it’s been a long time and i’ve had a chance to better understand my tastes. I’ve never have tamarind before but this is a really interesting tea. it’s woodsy and spicy and really flavourful.
I received this as a sample from Stacy @ Butiki in my order. I think I have steeped this wrong since I didn’t get what most have mentioned from this tea. To be fair, it was still an enjoyable tea but not quite what I was expecting. Added some sugar to see if that changed the taste enough – about the same. That being said, I’d be wiling to give it another shot as I feel like at this stage in the game, it’s likely ME not the tea :)
Hmmm, the only steeping issue I could think of is amount of water. The sample sizes are pre-measured for 8oz of water. If you use a mug and don’t measure out the water the size of the mug can be very deceiving. Most mugs that I see range from 12oz-16+oz. If you measured out the water, than this might not be your cup of tea. :)
For sure Stacy. I did measure it because in our house mugs are closer to 20oz lol don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the tea just want to try it again because I’m pretty sure I need to do it right :)
Shut the Front Door!
Jumping Jehosaphat!
My Goodness Gracious Great Balls of Fire…this tea is tasty!!!
I fell in love when I opened the little bag.
I was impatiently dancing back and forth from one foot to the other waiting for the water to get to the right temp.
It is like Hawaii in a cup.
You smell floral and juicy pineapple, but neither is overpowering.
Then a creamly oolong in the background.
Taste: Mmmmm…pineapple! then I get hints of jasmine, but I do not see that listed in the ingredients, then the creamy Oolong gently emerges.
All around utterly delightful!
Well Done, Butiki, Well Done!
Preparation
Thanks Hesper! No jasmine, however, I sometimes taste notes of jasmine in the Wen Shan Bao Zhong, so I definitely get where you are coming from with the jasmine notes. Oooh, I like “Hawaii in a cup”.
Bonnie: Didn’t you help inspire this blend? I thought I read something like that in the past.
Stacy: It really did remind of my time spent in Hawaii! And I love going back there any way I can.
Ashmanra: It is! I highly recommend it.
Gmathis: I get excited about teas I love:)
I have been thinking about this tea since moments after I awoke this morning.
I am just now having the chance to enjoy it.
Its buttery vegetation odor, its fuzzy little ‘feelers’ making me smile, and autumn sunshine on my back.
Ah, some things really are worth waiting for.
See previous notes for more on this tea.
Preparation
First of all, I have to tell you…when I first saw the picture of this tea on the Butiki website I said “Ewww! this tea looks like fuzzy bugs!” (It had nothing to do with your lovely picture, Stacy! Your photos are always gorgeous on the website:) and then promptly added it to my list to order.
Why?
Because I am weird.
I think if it looked quirky then I was sure to love it.
Guess what?
I was right!
This tea is just so delicious.
It has this delicate buttery smell, then it tastes like the first fresh sweet peas of the season steamed with butter.
There are also notes of sun-warmed wheat (I know this smell well, my house is literally right next to a wheat field:)
This tea hits the ball right out of the park!
A very fine tea, indeed.
Brewed in my Bodum, this tea has a stunning champagne color.
Preparation
Haha! Crazy indeed. The leaves, once wet in the infuser change from looking like bugs/fishes to looking like baby green beans!
I love the shapes of tea’s that Stacy gives us. So cool to share with my grandsons. Fuzzy things are so neat!
Bahaha, I ordered it because it looks funky too! I’m a sucker for that sort of thing :) Glad to hear it’s tasty too!
Totally found a wee bit of this left in my cupboard the other day and made this into a cold brew! It was super tasting after getting home later-er this evening and being on my own to try and refrain from making another 129692829743 tea orders for cyber Monday. It’s hard! There are so many teas out there I want to try…I really need to make a conscious effort to do a few more swaps in January to cross things off my list that way.
SIPDOWN!
Made this into a cold brew and it was a good time. I am truly enjoying the teas from Stacy that have made their way into my cupboard. There’s a small part of me that really wants to make this alcoholic :) In any case this is a great fall tea for those evenings where the tempaerature dips down a little.
Mmmmm I really like this tea when the weather’s a little colder outside. It’s almost like having a cider to drink…something I really enjoy when I’m ice skating in winter. Very nearly a sip down – I may finish this later tonight if the weather gets cooler this evening. My other half is at work tonight so I’ve got the house to myself to drink tea in and finish getting some of my packages ready for drop off tomorrow.
Mmmm haven’t had this one in a while. Really enjoy Stacy’s blending of things. My other half will be home soon and I haven’t gotten nearly enough done today. On the plus side I have an extra day on Monday to get things done so I’m not stressed…yet haha. Time for a bit of a break before he gets home. Movie time!
When I first opened this bag of tea my instant thought was that it smells exactly like one of my favourite alcoholic ciders :) Liberteas is tootaly right about the spices in this one. I’m going to have to try this a few more times to really wrap my brain around the taste. Overall a nice afternoon tea.
Preparation
So I brought the rest of my peach oolong to work today to share with the folks here. they’ve been laughing at me all week about my tea consumption and i figured since the masses seem to really enjoy this tea, it might shut them up. Well it did ha! for now… now they want to know how much it costs and where they can get some good tea etc..
In so far as this tea goes, I’ll likely not order it again. While i appreciate the delicate taste of this tea, it’s just not for me. DO NOT let that deter you from trying this tea as I honestly believe that this is a wonderful tea if you can appreciate this type of tea.
Mmmm much better when bewing at home. Really enjoying the subtlness of this one. Only thing I’m not loving about it are the floral undertones. Still not something I’d turn away if offered to me :)
You may have boiled the water too hot. I find that when I do at home I can get no floral undertones, just peachy goodness. Experiment with it :D
I think I have over steeped this one. While it’s nicely flavoured there’s a hint of something there that makes me wish I was instead drinking Madam Butterfly. I’ll have to give this another go tonight when I get home – work isn’t really a great set up for my tea habits…..yet!
mmm continuing my butiki week, i figured i should finish this one up as well. SIPDOWN! I so wish this one tasted nearly as good cold as it does cold brewed. I supposed i could brew it hot and then pour it over ice but the thought never occured to me until this second lol
I really like this one a lot. it’ll be back in my cupboard before you know it. It’s one of the few mango teas that i find actually tastes like mango. :)
backlogging from earlier today
I am still enjoying this one quite a bit, though i’m not sure if i’ll restock it. I tend to find that there are other flavoured teas i moev towards first when i’m looking for a rooibos. That being said, I would love another mango flavoured black or something like that from stacy as this is pretty kick ass in terms of mango-licious taste!
Had some of this in the afternoon in between all of the bustle of getting my chinese visa, work related things and other such adventures. I’m finding myself more and more stressed out every day over my impending trip, so I’m trying to do my best to take time out in the afternoon to sit and have a cup of something to try and relax. This afternoon it was mango lassi! In ym continuing quest to bring my tea collection down a bit, this is one of the teas i’ve set aside to try and have a bit more of since it’s been in my cupboard longer than some others. Today i was once again reminded of why i picked this up in the first place. This is a really nice mango tea! Probably my current favourite, though I continue to look for mango teas that are more about the mango!
