Good morning. I decided I need a proper wake up today, so I reached for the Tiger. It’s robust and thick, and today it’s full of raisin and burnt sugar notes as well as malt. Super delicious. I added cream and sugar .
And now I’m going to take my daughter to school because she just missed the bus. Hello, Monday.
I thought I’d be wild and crazy today by having the other Andrews and Dunnham tea that’s sitting on my cupboard shelf.
This is such a good breakfast tea. It’s strong and full bodied, but there’s no bitterness or astringency. It has malt, biscuit, and burnt sugar notes… yum. Such a nice tea to greet the day with.
Preparation
For the first time in what seems like months I have nothing planned for the weekend. Nothing. I am loving the idea of a slow lazy Saturday. I wanted a good Assam to help me kick off my day of nothingness, and this is definitely a good one. It’s biscuity with great malt notes and a sweet finish. Serious yum.
Ok, I’m off to the farmer’s market. I haven’t been since last fall, and I am going to stroll around while finding something to feed my family for dinner tonight.
Preparation
Tea of the morning. I woke up an hour before my alarm was set to go off, and my mind began whirling with all of the things I need/want to get accomplished this week. Oy. Since it was obvious I wasn’t going back to sleep, and because my cat noticed I was awake and began meowing incessantly, I decided to get out of bed and enjoy some Tiger Assam.
Love the depth of this tea. It’s so full of malt and rich raisin-y sweetness. If I have to be awake before my alarm orders me out of bed then this is the tea I want in my cup.
Preparation
My cat sits on my chest and licks my nose, and then when I finally open my eyes, she starts running in between the food cupboard and the bed with a look that says “Oh well, since you are awake, you might as well feed me”
Cats… :)
Tea of the morning. I love the strength of this Assam, and I love the depth of the malty notes. Part of me want to stay here and drink pot after pot, but I think I’d be twitching from all of the caffeine before I even started on the second pot.
Preparation
I think all my other Assams just got downgraded. :)
This tea is everything I was hoping it would be. Rich, strong, and malty but also incredibly smooth. There is some briskness at the end of the sip which is also nice. I can pick up a few fruity notes, but to be honest I’m not trying all that hard. This is so good that I’m just drinking and being happy.
I have been reading review after review about this tea and so I decided to break into my tea box from Cavocorax and try it out. I have been hesitant as it is not a dessert, over-the-top flavor tea I am used to and I was worried I would not be a fan. At the same time, I have noticed my tastes changing towards simpler teas on occasion so I thought I might finally be ready. Unfortunately, I don’t think I am quite at that point in my tea love where I can truly appreciate a nice, straight black tea as I am not finding the appeal of this cup no matter how hard I look for the flavors that everyone loves. Maybe in the future my tastes will evolve more and this will become a favorite but for now it is just not for me. Thank you Cavorcorax for sending me a sample but alas I think it was wasted on me.
Preparation
if you want to venture into straight black teas, you might want to try some of the “fruitier” taiwanese blacks since they’re closer in flavours to flavoured teas…well in comparison to straight up assams like this one. heh
Oh dear lord it’s cold! A big storm came in while I was at work and I had to walk home in the middle of blizzard …wearing a jacket with a broken zipper. Needless to say I was absolutely chilled when I got home and promptly put on a pot of tea to warm me up.
This tea was a good choice – I’m pretty sure it came from the Traveling Teabox (rip) originally. It’s a good, solid black tea that does the trick without being unpalatably harsh. The flavour is bold with hints of smoke and a bit of astringency, and there’s also something about it that almost tastes metallic – I know that probably sounds unpleasant but it really isn’t. This would make an excellent morning go-to tea.
Preparation
I haven’t had this tea in ages. It is hitting the spot today, although I think the caffeine might smack me in the face shortly and I will have to slow up drinking it lol. Today I have also noticed a stronger flavor with a bit more malt and some raw cacao. Yummy!
So we went from like +32 C this weekend with no relief in site to 2 days of rain and temps around +20 C. A welcome change, although the humidity is pretty weird after such a dry weekend. I’ve been coughing and feeling kinda ick from the weather, but I do love the rain, and so does my garden and lawn lol. Weird weather. At least I can drink hot tea again, and caffeinated ones at that! See previous notes on this tea :)Hey Steepster, are you back? Looks like the discussion boards and cupboard are still a bit messed up lol, well I should at least log 1 note while it’s up and running. I am having a cup of this this morning at work, and I think this tea has changed! It has a more noticeable honey flavor today but is still rich and bold. Interesting, I think the honey note is new? I’ll have to look back at old logs of this haha. It is good anyways, a lot of caffeine but I am drinking it slowly lol. See previous notes on this tea!
Man oh man, this turned out strong today. A lot stronger and much better than I’ve ever made it! Don’t know exactly what I did differently lol, maybe a bit longer steep time? I made this for my inevitable headache, I felt the beginnings of a migraine before lunch, I am hoping to ward it off well in advance. It’s probably from stress, work is going to be crazy this week. Anyways, just thought I’d log the strength and yum of this tea. Rawr! Back to work!
ETA – I guess I hadn’t written a note on this one yet? Haha weird I was sure I did. Anyways, malty, slightly caramel goodness, a touch of fruitiness, a bit of astringency (bit mouth drying). But still pretty darn good, especially today haha. Previous attempts were a bit weak, except when I make homemade chai with this (EPIC).
Tea fail. Brought a thermos to work to drink, but meh. It was lukewarm.
Maybe I need a better thermos? Or maybe I just need to make the tea when I want to drink it…
I’m working on cleaning and reorganizing everything in my tiny apartment, I started about a week ago and am tackling tiny projects each day.
Last night I found a bag of what I thought was palm sugar (at like 1:30 am) and put it in the kitchen to have with my tea today. Except. It wasn’t palm sugar. It felt weird as I put a couple pinches into my tea, and I realized it was bamboo flavoured salt.
That was a no. That was a BIG no.
So I made another cup, and added some real, regular sugar to it. And some coconut milk. And I’m still drinking it.
Tea good. Tea with a lot of salt, though? That’s bad.
Preparation
Mistaking salt (or msg) for sugar is one of my biggest tea/cooking nightmares :P ..whereas coconut milk and this tea together sounds great.
Yeah, the coconut milk is good in tea. :) I get the Aroy-D tetra packed coconut milk for tea, because it seems to integrate better.
Oh, dear. Reminds me of the long ago Downton Abbey episode where Mrs. Patmore made dessert for a dinner party with salt instead of sugar. :(
That sounds like something I would do! There’s a reason why the salt and sugar go in very distinct and separate places in my kitchen…
I once baked about 200 caramel shortbread heart-shaped cookies to take to school for Valentine’s Day. I baked them the night before and was planning to put the finishing touches on them in the morning. I was running late, so I just arranged them on a huge platter and tossed sprinkles and granulated sugar all over the top. Or did I? Turns out I sprinkled a whole bunch of salt over the top instead of sugar. Luckily, they still tasted pretty good as long as you gave the cookie a quick shake-off before eating them :)
I found this by searching “damn fine tiger”. Yeah, maybe a nap is in order today.
Delicious, as usual.
With some almond nog because it’s amazing.
I think I’m going to go cuddle the cat.
Preparation
No more eggnog, so I had tea this morning instead of an eggnog latte.
Tea good. Delicious. Caffeine. Yes.
(Yes, this is what my “reviews” are coming to. I’m exhausted. The darkness is annoying me WAY more than usual this year.)
Preparation
It’s depressing to think that the days are still getting shorter. The sun was 18 degrees above the horizon at its highest point the other day, and it’s only going to get worse :( I can’t wait till spring.
I’m taking 6000iu of vitamin D, as well as some other supplements. I wake up naturally at 7:30 no matter WHAT I do but have no energy, and can’t get to sleep at night because of insomnia and lack of sun. So annoying. Fingers crossed I can get up tomorrow morning and maybe go shuffle around the block in the sun with a mug of tea before work.
I feel ya! I’m taking D and a B 100 complex vitamin to combat winter this year, D for my sunlight and B 100 for energy and de-stressing lol. And tea always helps!
Long day. Good tea. Even though I had to supplement with coffee, this was still really good.
My mom’s also tried it, and she’s “ordered” a tin of it from me. So at some point, I’ll have to order more and get it sent to her house! :)
Preparation
Would you know if they had a shipping offer this past Canada Day? If so, then damnit, that’s what I get for taking a break from Steepster haha.
Yes! I got it! Well, I got it Friday. :D :D
WOO! Tiger Assam!
So I’m sipping it with some almond milk. It’s delicious. I like it. And so I shall leave you with this.
Flavors: Malt
Preparation
Using up my last wee bit of this tea from Cavocorax!
It’s so good.
One of these days I’ll get myself a tin. :)
Preparation
I really like this one too and would totally get a tin. I just wish they had more on their site to kind of make the order more worthwhile, free shipping or not. :)

I have this & a few other teas from A&D in my desk drawer at work, & I enjoyed a cup of this one with my lunch. :) Happy Monday!
