518 Tasting Notes
L & C TTB
This is the spring 2014 version
Kinda sorta nutty, roasty flavored, but still nice and green.
Tasty.
But it doesn’t pair well with chocolate and peanut butter.
Also, don’t oversteep or this gets really bitter and nasty.

I’m not so impressed. I don’t even have the energy to describe this tea, but it’s not doing anything for me right now.
Maybe it’s the time of day, or my mood, or my stress level. Sorry I couldn’t give it a fair shake.

I had this tea today at work. I don’t remember much except I liked it. I think it was a little malty, a little chocolately. It was good.
Sorry.
Today has not been a good day at work.

malty, but not overwhelmingly so
almost sweet
Rich.
As it cools, it gets sweeter. Almost kind of sweet potato.
I like it. I got multiple infusions from it, WEstern style. The third, I oversteeped on accident because I forgot to set my timer, but it didn’t get bitter or bad. It was nice.

I decided to do this one in my cute little clay teapot with my new tea tray and cup.
Boy, is my tummy sloshy now.
But that’s a good thing.
The first few infusions were a little minerally tasting, along with a touch floral, a touch green. Tasty.
Then it got even better. Sweet, floral, vegetal, no longer mineral. I was hoping for a creamy mouth feel, or buttery, but it never was really either of these.
It was just nice. Not overwhelming. Easy drinking.
I’m sure some of the flavor was stolen by the pot since it’s still really new, but that’s what happens with new clay. Someday, it will give back.

My notes for this one on paper say:
Ooh!
I like!
Sweet green
veggie green
is that edamame?
I’ve gotten multiple infusions out of it. The first couple were really nice, the ones after that just okay. But the color is pretty. The leaves are beautiful.

I oversteeped my first infusion of this. Oops. Work is distracting and crazy busy as of late. But I could tell this tea has a lot of potential.
I resteeped the leaves for a couple more infusions, short and sweet this time, not getting distracted. Much better. Mild, fruity, almost floral.

Much less rice than I usually see in Genmaichas. But it’s good this way. I like it. I like the base tea quite well, so the lower rice content is actually quite nice.
pretty, curly little leaves
it’s quite green and refreshing, with just a hint of nuttiness from the rice.

This was decent, but I prefer the Den’s version.
I used 176° water so it was not bitter.
It does resteep well, following their standard steeping techniques.
In the later steepings, I got more of the roasty rice, but the first few were all overwhelming matcha.
