drank Salted Caramel by DAVIDsTEA

I was trying this tea for the first time while going through some paperwork in preparation for next semester’s practicum, and I decided to take a quick break and write this tealog. Although I am enjoying this tea, it isn’t one that I anticipate repurchasing in a large quantity in the future. Sporadic small sample sizes would be sufficient for me.

I can taste the caramel, and the smell and aftertaste are so familiar, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. Hmmm…I guess it reminds me of the chocolate scented scratch and sniff stickers my teachers used to put on my homework when I was a kid. But unless your teachers put the same stickers on your homework, that comparison won’t really help most of you.

My brain is so random

Cavocorax

Hahah. I remember those! At least you’re able to pinpoint what something tastes like, even if it is sorta random.

canadianadia

@Cavocorax good to hear my reference was suitable to at least one other person other than myself :)

charab

We got only shiny stars and stamp marks. Boooo! I want to scratch and sniff too. That didn’t come out right.

This is the second sample I tried from the Fruity try me pack. Sadly, I was a little disappointed with this tea. The blueberry taste isn’t as obvious as I like, and there is something about the freshly brewed smell that kind of reminds me of the Playdoh I used to play with when I was little. I used to love playing with Playdoh when I was little, but I don’t want my tea to smell like it.

I had high expectations for this tea because I absolutely adore David’s Tea blueberry jam, and although I wasn’t anticipating an exact match, I was hoping for a similar intensity of the blueberry taste. It didn’t deliver. Oh well, can’t win them all. This tea is not bad, but it won’t be joining Lemon Chiffon on my Della Terra Teas repurchase list – there are so many other teas that I enjoy so much more.

I’ve been busy enjoying Christmas festivities so I haven’t had much chance to write many tealogs lately. But when my Della Terra teas order arrived in a festive red box, I just had to log in and write at least a few lines. Besides, I miss checking in with my Steepster friends :)

Lemon is one of those flavors that I enjoy, but it isn’t necessarily my absolute favorite, so I didn’t have high expectations for me liking this tea. It’s pure lemony goodness, not so much the sour natural lemon taste, but more like a lemon extract, but creamier. Even when I first caught a whiff of this tea it immediately made me think of lemon cake, which is remarkable because I actually didn’t even know that lemon chiffon was a cake until after I tasted this tea and then I decided to look it up.

I only have a couple of samples of this tea from my try me packs, but it is definitely something I would reorder.

Ozli

Heee, I went to put this on my shopping list after you said the magic words “lemon cake” and it was ALREADY THERE :D :D

canadianadia

If lemon cake is your magic word, then you will definitely enjoy this tea :)

Cavocorax

I hope I get my order soon!!!! I didn’t get this one but am making a mental note here.

December is proving to be a busy-fun month already. Between the parties, the family dinners, and Christmas prep, there just doesn’t seem to be enough days in the month to squeeze it all in. With the rush rush of this season, I missed logging this tea a couple of times. Thankfully, I’m still enjoying it as much as I did previously. It’s pure chocolaty goodness with a natural sweetness and no caffeine that’s right up my alley.

My 52teas “12 days of teas” arrived today. 9 sleeps until I get to tear into the first packet ~ so stoked!

drank Mulberry Magic by DAVIDsTEA

I didn’t have time to log this tea the first couple of times I had it, but when I first tried it I had no expectations. That is possibly why I enjoyed it so much? Sometimes I find it almost impossible for a tea to live up to some of the rave reviews.

This is another herbal (no caffeine) love for me that I can drink at any time.

I know nothing about mulberries, other than having tried a different Davids tea a while ago that contained some of the dried mulberries and eating one out of that pack. I made a cup of this tea for my Dad and step-mom, when they visited, and they said they enjoyed it. I drank it plain, and they both drank it with a touch of honey.

For some reason, this tea reminds me of Davids cookie dough tea, but I’m not sure why -they don’t have a single ingredient in common. They both have smooth light nutty tastes, and I was pleasantly surprised that this one doesn’t have the tartness that frequently accompanies berry teas.

This tea is a definite repurchase for me.

Shmiracles

i have a sample of this, and since reading your post i think i’ll try to drink it tomorrow :)
or tonight…

canadianadia

Oh I hope I didn’t over hype it. I really do like it though, so I hope it a winner for your taste-buds also – cheers!

TheTeaFairy

canadianadia, you did not over hype, it’s one of my permanent DT collection that makes the repurchasing list over and over again… I still don’t understand how they could induce so much flavor into it, how buttery and nutty and creamy! I rarely put milk in anything, but this one I like with a bit of soy milk, but it stands superb on its own… Shmiracles, what are you waiting for? Open that sample already!

Shmiracles

smooth!
light!
nutty!
buttery to all hell!
cheers to you both and your awesome recommendation.

Hooray! it’s December 1st! My hubby shaved off the not-so-hotso moustache he was growing for Movember. :{D No more poky face :D He did manage to raise some money and awareness for a good cause, so it’s always worth it.

I didn’t log my tea review the first time I tried this tea because Steepster was down and my computer ate a few of the review I did on MS Word – nom nom.

I remember feeling disappointed with this one last time, and thinking it tasted a bit strange for my liking. Somehow this second time around I’m enjoying this much more. I’m not sure what changed, other than my lowered expectations. I definitely taste mint, and the coconut flavour is there, but it’s more complimentary than the mint.

Right now this one is still a like but not a love for me, but it’s growing on me.

BoxerMama

I’m just going to say, maybe it’s the hipster blood flowing inside me, but I LOVE mustaches! BoxerPapa wont grow one. :( lol

canadianadia

I prefer the look of a goatee on my hubby, but that wasn’t permitted for movember. For some reason he let the moustache get quite unruly this time, and it stuck straight out from his face like a porcupine- not pretty, and very poky.

BoxerMama

LOL! A lot of men in the army here grow the curled mustaches for movember. They aren’t allowed to have a mustache past the corners of their mouths so they break out the mustache wax. Some can pull it off, some look ridiculous. lol

mynameismoe

I find a splash of milk helps this tea! Brings out the mintiness.

canadianadia

@BoxerMama – my hubby has to stay within work uniform policy also, but he hasn’t tried the mustache wax…thankfully. I don’t think it would suit him. With the mustache he had, he reminded me of Luigi from the supermario game hahaha!

@mynameismoe – I’ll have to give that a try

BoxerMama

LOL! That’s no good!

I love the little popped rice pieces in the dry tea mix it looks like Lilliputian popcorn.

Sadly that’s where the love stops.

Brewed, this smells like Forever Nuts, but it tastes much tarter. I can’t say that I’m a fan of the tartness in this tea, and as it cools, that aspect becomes increasingly obvious.

Sigh…not good

I eventually gave up on this one and fed it to my drain. On the bright side, I only got 20 grams.

I haven’t developed the sophisticated tea tastebuds yet, so I tend to be less excited to try straight teas, and more of a flavored fun teas kind of girl. But the last time I mentioned my lack of excitement towards straight teas, a few of you wonderful steepsterites suggested that I try this one. I must say: “Oh my, you are so right”.

Ahhhh, it’s pure nutty buttery goodness. During the colder months of the year, I find myself intuitively cradling my mug with one hand just under my chin, while I type, write, or scroll through pages with my other hand. I think I do this partially for warmth, and partially for the smell. But the smell of this tea is so delicious that without realizing it I raised my mug higher and higher until my nose and most of my face was stuffed in there. I’m glad I drank a good bit of this away; otherwise, my chin would have been tea-dipped.

The first steep was heavenly. I got distracted during the second brew and accidentally forgot the leaves and oversteeped it. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was no bitterness at all.

This is my favorite straight tea I’ve tried so far. Thanks to all of you who suggested this one to me :D

Cavocorax

Oooh. Sounds promising. I may have to try it. I’d like to get a better understanding of what straight teas actually taste like, before being mixed into all these delicious blends.

I really like my oolong sample from Tea From Taiwan so oolong is higher on my try it list.

julesbean

I love this tea! I’m on a major milk oolong kick at the moment.

canadianadia

I used to not really care for oolong, but it’s now quickly becoming another one of my favorites. This is such a good straight tea that I had to keep reading the ingredients to see that all there was in it was tea.

drank Orange Blossom by DAVIDsTEA

My hubby loves the smell of this tea; he says it reminds him of orange flavored Campino candies. I’m not a huge fan of orange flavored anything and I’m even less of a fan of orange peel, so I’m not sure why I decided to get this tea. I do love the taste of fresh oranges, so maybe that’s what I was hoping for? I can’t ignore the peel taste as a hot tea, but as it cools it tastes more like an orange flavor that I don’t mind. That is, once I get past that initial sip. Regardless of whether it’s hot or cold, that first sip tastes and smells like dried orange peel.

I imagine I’d like this one best as an iced tea, but it’s too cold these days to venture to try that. I’ll have to hang on to some of this until the warmer weather returns and give it a try. Until that time, this tea will sit in my o.k. pile.

crazy4u

steepster wont let me like but good reveiw :)

canadianadia

Thanks crazy4u :D

Sweet marzipan! The smell of this tea is unmistakably, almost overwhelmingly, almond. It’s tasty, but I found it lacked a bit of depth in the flavor. Perhaps it might be because it’s on a herbal base rather than a tea base, maybe, it’s just the way the ingredients came out when I scooped them, or perhaps it’s because I still have a cold and I’m not experiencing the true depth of flavors? But as this tea cooled, the lack of complexity in the flavor became increasingly evident.

Don’t get me wrong, this is a decent tisane, and I look forward to having it again, but it doesn’t quite measure up to some of the other teas that I’ve been drinking lately.

That’s my mug! I’ve never really been a huge fan of Winnie the Pooh, but I like the fact that this mug is more or less clear. Plus, I can’t help but giggle when I say “ewww …I have Pooh on my mug” and people in the room gawk in horror before realizing I’m talking about Winnie. Am I easily amused? heck yeah!

A little something about my interests? – In no particular order, I love tea, makeup, paper crafting (card making), home renovations, and gardening.

As a rule, I tend to drink my tea without adding anything, but if that doesn’t work for me, I indulge in the fact that rules are meant to be broken. Yep! I’m such a rebel…sometimes I even color outside the of lines :P
