107 Tasting Notes
Still catching up on my DavidsTea advent calendar from last year and sipping on this while I marathon the first season of Bomb Girls.
This is nice (but I think I underleafed) and probably tastes great iced. It was refreshing to taste kiwi in a tea. I wish it were a bit stronger though, at times it seemed overpowered by the apple.
Spending New Years Eve with a pot of this since I have to work tomorrow morning so I can’t go out (well, I could but I would suffer the consequences).
I love cherries but this was not for me. This comes off as sour hibiscus to me and I think it’d be alright iced. I’m not a big fan of iced teas though so I don’t think I’ll be giving it a go. It gets much more tolerable as I drink it though.
Steep time: 5 mins. Added agave.
Rating: 30. Not or me.
Ever do that thing where you start watching a horror movie by yourself during the day and you’re like, “Wow, this isn’t even scary,” and by the time you finish it, it’s nighttime and suddenly every creak you hear and shadow you see is obviously some monster that is going to make you its meal?
Okay, well, with me it’s a book (well, The Walking Dead graphic novels to be specific), and I’ve been powering through them (and also a few pots of black tea to keep me going) all day. Suddenly it’s 11 pm and the caffeine from the black tea has me jumping at everything (I scared the crap out of my cat, poor thing). I need a nice, tasty herbal to calm my nerves so here I sit with a nice cup of this tea. It’s fruity and reminds me of summer and definitely helps me keep my mind off of flesh-eating zombies. (Seriously, who knew that things that move .0008 miles per hour and probably can’t even master a set of stairs could be so freaky?)
Rating: 70
Steep time: 5 mins.
For me, the Walking Dead comics were more OMG, gimme the kleenex, than they were scary. Glad you’re enjoying them. :)
hey i plan to read those soon!!!
(cuz i’m tired of everyone telling me i’d like the show. and then i tell them i tried the show and didn’t like it. and they look disappointed. but if i read the graphic novels then i’ll have an excuse to disappoint them instead of it just being me inadvertently implying that they have bad taste.)
but ‘read those soon’ is maybe an exaggeration because first i have to finish the ENTIRE green arrow catalog. and though i’ve gotten pretty far, that’s still a lot.
but i do have all the books ready and waiting in the wings.
Taking a break from reading The Walking Dead to post a review!
The dry leaf smells divine; chocolate and almond-y goodness. Steeped, it smells like amaretto – nice and sweet. I added quite a bit of agave (reg and hazelnut) to this pot but it isn’t coming through. I only steeped it for 3 minutes and it’s a little astringent. That’s what I like about Della Terra Teas though, lots of flavour with only a short steep.
I don’t like it as much as the other teas of theirs I’ve tried, but this would make an excellent morning brew when I’m tired and need a kick in the pants. Holding off on rating it until I fiddle with the steep time and additives.
I’m the biggest sucker for banana and genmaicha so I simply had to order this, and I’m glad I did! I was one of one weird kids who loved that banana flavoured penicillin and my mother never had to fight me to make me take it. The smell of this tea reminded me of those days. For those who worry about the tea tasting like penicillin, it’s more of a banana flavoured candy kind of taste and the genmaicha softens it out perfectly. I’m not a cheesecake lover (again, I’m weird) but the creaminess in this tea is great.
Steep time: 2 mins. Added agave to bring out the creaminess.
Rating: 90 (banana and genmaicha? Yeah this is the tea of my dreams. Definitely rationing this one!)
I bought this awhile ago, tried it and didn’t really care for it. I love banana flavouring when it’s super strong and I must have understeeped it because the flavour was too weak for me.
This tea was calling my name today and I figured I’d give it another shot. I was very surprised at how much I liked this. I added a bit of agave to give it an extra kick and I’m thinking that next time I’ll try adding hazelnut agave.
The banana flavour is very authentic and the nuttiness fills it out nicely. As much as I like it, I don’t think I’ll buy it again because it’s expensive (darn heaviness!) and I doubt that I can get more than one decent steep out of it. That aside, it is delicious!
Edited to add: Okay, the resteep was pretty decent. Sigh, why do I ever doubt you, DavidsTea?
Preparation
I was afraid that I had underleafed this but luckily I did not! The last experience I had with a new-to-me tea company’s idea of strawberry left me with a glass of something that reminded me of cheap strawberry hard candies. Not fun. This, on the other hand, is a delight. It’s sweetness is counterbalanced nicely with spicy cinnamon. This is the perfect thing to drink while I read comics and listen to my cat slowly try to “help” take Christmas decorations down in the living room during this snowstorm.
Rating: 85. Gonna keep this one around!
