67 Tasting Notes
First time, I think the water was too hot. I let the pot sit for a minute after boiling for the second cup before pouring it over the leaves, and I noticed more flavor. It’s not very strong, but pleasant.
This came in a set with five other LoTR themed teas that my sister (Em) sent me for my birthday. She’s cool like that.
Preparation
I had a cup of this a while back after I picked it up at the fancy grocery near my house. I like smokey beers and peaty scotch, so I figured I’d enjoy a smokey tea. Turns out, this is an exception. I passed it along to my Dad, who likes lapsang souchong teas, and is amassing a collection of them as Em and I try and then pass off these teas.
I should have read the ingredients list, but I was swayed by the box label that said the words “chocolate” and “cinnamon”. I’m sure they are present, but the only flavor I can taste is the peppermint. This is a good tea, if you want peppermint pu-erh. If you’re expecting chocolate and cinnamon, look elsewhere.
In related news, I have most of a box of the tea if someone wants it.
Flavors: Peppermint
So, I bought a couple ounces of this because I really liked the tuo cha I tried from Upton, and this didn’t require shipping, etc. It’s not bad, but the flavor is very mild compared to that one. I’ll drink through the rest of what I have, but I’ll be looking for another tuo cha (or just ordering some from Upton) in the future.
Preparation
Tried a 30 second steep after a 30 second rinse because of all the comments about it being strong. Seemed pretty mild to me. Wil try a longer steep for the next cup.
First cup I had put a little milk and honey into. For the second and third cups, I drank it plain after steeping for 45 seconds. The color is still dark, but I have to dash off to work. Taking the other cake with me to sip all day.
The flavor is very mild to me. Slight earthy tones that are pleasant. No bitterness or acidity, so no need for me to have doctored it in the first place.
Thank you to Shmiracles for the two cakes I get to sample!
