Rumpus Parable Send Message

Just had my last cup of this sample. I can rate it better now that I’ve more experience with whites.

My earlier description of the flavor is accurate, but it’s not anywhere near as good as pterosaur whites I’ve since tried. It’s reminiscent of wheat but a bit on the weak side of white flavors. I’m not unhappy to be out of it now.

This brews up dark but not with a strong scent, surprisingly. The scent that is there is slightly malty with a light and slightly spicy “dark tea smell”. Pleasant.

The taste is dark on the front of the tongue with a sense of honey in the top of the mouth when swallowing. It has a bit of bitterness around the sides and under the tongue, but not unpleasantly so. There’s a pleasant burnt taste in the middle of the tongue as the tea starts to cool.

I was worried that a black tea would seem to strong after I’ve been drinking so many whites lately, but not at all. While this isn’t Awesome, it is Good. I’d drink it again, and will, but wouldn’t buy it.

This is my second from 52teas and again the smell matches the name.

However, I’m not too sure of or big on the taste. It’s strong on green tea and after you swallow you get the touch of cherry cheesecake through your nose, but it’s not really in the taste of the tea itself.

I didn’t finish testing it until it was cool, as tea shows different aspects at different temps… sometimes one I am not big on hot is yummy cooler. But not with this, it got more green and bitter as it cooled and I couldn’t finish the cup.

1.3g tea, 2oz water, 160F, 60sec

Brewed this is very cherry scented.

It’s flavor isn’t very robust at all. Nothing like the Sakura Sencha from Den’s that I just had a bit earlier today.

It’s very light with no bitterness. It has a not-overwhelming cherry flavor to it and a bit of what I guess is the rose (I’m not good at recognizing that taste yet, no real experience with it so far). Basically, it tastes like a middle of the road cherry green tea. Nothing special or catching about it.

Tried this cold-brewed. In a word: nasty.

The scent of this steeped tea is very green. It has a slight hay-like sweetness.

This is a rather good tea. Moderately sweet, green in the throat, a touch of the generic “tea flavor” to it (barely, but there).

I would say it reminds me a bit of honey. It has that same sort of sweetness and a bit of the coating feeling that honey gives you.

New batch:

2oz water, 1.3g tea, 160F, 60sec

This is quite similar to my first batch and steep, except it’s a bit more buttery/sweet. I’m surprised such a little difference in temp made a difference!

Second steep: followed Den’s directions -boiling water for 15sec

It smells very floral and rich.

The bitterness is almost completely gone… just the faintest touch of it in the finish. The mouthfeel of this is quite buttery. It’s lightly floral with a lot of green flavor.

Second steep, 160F, 45sec

This steep has the buttery feel others have mentioned and is all green, no cherry blossom floral-ness. The joining bitterness is still there, but not as good tasting without the floral to balance with.

Gonna keep fiddling!

2oz water, 1.3g tea, 60sec, 170F

This is my first try at sencha and am going off the Den’s instructions on how to brew it, with the exception of the temperature. With that I went down to 170F for starters, due to Kaybee including a note that 180F seemed its upper limit.

The scent is slightly sweet and floral. Very pleasant.

The flavor is very green in the middle back of the tongue. It is very floral around the middle front of the tongue. The finish is floral and a touch sweet around the nose. There’s a solid bit of bitter, too… not in an off-putting way, but rather in a way that ties the whole flavor of the tea together.

As said, this is my first sencha and if the taste of it is at all representative of how sencha will be, then I’m going to be a fan. I really like this tea and would definitely buy some; it’s going on my Shopping List.
