310 Tasting Notes
The scent of this one is big.. it reaches right out and smacks you! It’s honey and tobacco with a hint of burnt.
On sipping it very hot there is a green note.. think dark green lettuce, cabbage or kale. Somewhere in there.
When cooled to warm, it has that burnt edge to it -but in a pleasant way, the vegetal flavor is much lighter, the honey sweetness comes out. The tea is generally light in the mouth and not actually sweet but puts you in the mind of honey, instead.
Not my favorite of these samples, but good.
Preparation
This smells a bit like tea, a bit like berries… but not clearly of any particular fruit.
The taste is rather good. Solid black tea base that’s pleasant in itself and a not-strong but noticeable taste of peach and blackberry mixed -not two individual flavors, but an interesting combined one that is both and neither.
I rather like this and could see me making a second cup.
Preparation
This smells sweet and of cloves. Maybe a kind of gingerbread smell.
I like this, but it’s hard to describe the flavor. It’s the first of 52teas teas that I’ve liked… the others I can see why others like them, but were not for me. This has a dark earthy tone, I assume from the Assam, the sweetness if very subtle and barely there, the ginger and pepper flavors are the strongest after the black tea. It leaves the upper part of the mouth a bit tight due to the spicy aspects.
It’s all in all not awesome but quite tasty.
Preparation
Sweet and floral scent. The jasmine is present without being overwhelming, like some jasmine scented teas.
Taste-wise, this seems nicely balanced. Again the jasmine is not overwhelming and the white tea can be found in the flavor. There is a slight sweetness to it that is found in many whites, so far IME. It leaves the mouth watering a bit.
Another flavored tea I find I like in this set of samples. I doubt I’d buy it, but I’m glad I tried it. It gives me new hope in jasmine scented teas.
Preparation
I accidentally made this with a little more tea than usual and a little too little water… so we’ll see how this goes.
The scent is very pleasant, a touch of sweet peach and a barely-there spice from the ginger. Cannot pick up the black tea’s scent other than as a solidity to the over-all smell.
The taste is very good, and I’m not one to usually like flavored teas. The black tea is not strong, it just holds the complete flavor together. The ginger makes for a vague spiciness along the mid tongue while the peach gives just a hint of balancing fruit tones.
No particular flavor stands out on this, rather they mix and balance very pleasantly. I’m glad the Steeper Select club sent me this as it’s one I wouldn’t have otherwise tried.
Preparation
The scent of this is delicious. Honey and something elusive.
The flavor is very, very different from the smell. It is intensely floral almost to the point of tasting like perfume… there’s a slight acrid tone to it. None of the sweetness of the smell transfers over. The finish isn’t particularly pleasant.
It’s one I’m tempted to add Agave Nectar to, to sweeten it, and I rarely ever add anything to my tea. Not big on this one at all.
