736 Tasting Notes
This is my second Butiki tea!!! :D I’m so excited. Oh my goodness, you have no idea how excited I am! Got a sample of this from, mj! Thanks so much! Super stoked!
Wasn’t totally sure if I’d like this, to be honest.
But again with tea surprising me. xD
I wasn’t too big on the honey taste in teas. But this one is super malty, with a hint of honey in it that makes it sweet. I love this combo.
This tea is amazing! I’ll have to buy some myself now! Thanks for the sample, mj!!
Flavors: Honey, Malt, Sugar
I seem to really like Assam tea. I got this sample along with the genmaicha sample a few weeks ago. This Assam actually doesn’t feel as malty as others I’ve had. There’s something else to it, but I can’t place it….
Still a good tea, but Tealux already has this one covered. :P
Got this tea from the awesome, darby! (:
This was one of the few Republic of Tea teas that I really wanted to try. It smells exactly pretty strong like DTT’s Lemon Chiffon does.
But the flavor is much lighter. Not bad at all.
I think Lemon teas are growing on me more and more ^^
First off, this is a pretty tea to look at. (:
Secondly, this totally smells like a blueberry muffin. Which I totally love the smell of.
And third, this totally tastes like a blueberry pastry. DTT knows how to do it right!
Thanks for the sample, JennyFur! (:
Flavors: Blueberry, Pastries
Eh, nothing really special. The caramel isn’t strong enough to hide the woodsy Rooibos flavor, which I don’t mind anyway. Just wouldn’t buy. But thanks for the sample, Mandy! (:
I’ve only tried one other 52teas tea than this and I hated it. Ever since I’ve been a bit skeptical of 52teas. But Mandy sent me this in a swap last week, so I had to give them another shot.
I’m so glad I did!
This tea smelled phenomenal! Maple Cheesecake. They got the smell straight on!
The first few sips of this tea tasted a bit bitter, and I thought I was going to have to add sugar (which I hate doing for teas because I always screw it up somehow).
But as I kept drinking the bitterness went away and it started tasting exactly how it smelled. 0_0 A great dessert tea!
So glad I gave 52teas another chance! Was a win! :D
Thanks, Mandy!
Glad you liked it! No adding sweetener to your teas? I don’t know how you do it! I always add sweetener, makes me feel guilty since most people on here don’t. But I feel like it enhances the flavors.
I always end up adding too much XD I hate ruining a good cup of tea. I would rather deal with bitter tea than just a cup of sugar water. xD
Yeah, I’m learning that straight teas that I like, I don’t want to sweeten. Straight teas that are ok, I still sweeten because I’ve got a crazy sweet tooth and sweetened tea is the only thing that keeps me from eating ice cream for dinner!
I’m no pro on Assam teas, in fact, I’ve only had a few that Virginia sent along with all the David’s Teas. But like the genmaicha, I’m pretty hooked on these straight blacks now. Who would have thought they’d have so much flavor? Well…I never thought they would. Man…everything seems to be surprising me tea-wise lately it feels like! XD
Anywho, this is a pretty rich and malty Assam. Nothing too exciting or different from other Assams I’ve already had. But I won’t be buying more from RiverTea. The “Happy Banana” kinda killed the desire to order from that company. Tealux has my heart for the Assam anyway :P
Flavors: Heavy, Malt
Preparation
Oh there was this other tea called that, and I didn’t like it. It was all just fruit, and I steeped it for a while, but it was barely a flavor. Least I got it at a major sale, so paid like nothing for it xD
None of rivertea teas impressed me unfortunately…ordered only once, and that will be it. Too bad, cause I loved their packaging so much! But the teas just fall flat for me. Maybe I’m just too picky, it’s a relatively popular brand here on Steepster. And Tealux Assams totally rock!!
Yeah, I won’t order from them again. I can spend my money on other things xD Tealux is way more worth my money anyway haha :P
I wasn’t sure I’d like this tea when I first saw it on DTT’s website, but the more I drink it, the more it grows on me ^^
It’s not sour at all, it’s so creamy and smooth. The perfect lemon tea! (:
Flavors: Cream, Lemon
Not really lemonade-y…well, at least to me I think lemonade is sour. But it’s kinda like eating a lemon dessert, it’s never really sour. It’s always kinda creamy. I suck at describing, don’t I? XD
No, no..actually I think that worked really well. Lemony dessert.. like the sweet, creamy lemon bars? :]
I haven’t really been big on green tea, but a few weeks ago in a swap, Albertocanfly sent me a tea bag of Genmaicha tea. Didn’t think I’d like it at all, but it was so different that I kinda fell in love with it. Ever since I’ve been trying to find who has the best Genmaicha out there. This is the third Genmaicha I’m trying now.
The sample size of this might be one of the reasons why this tea doesn’t smell much. The sample is maybe a few teaspoons, so pretty small. But even when this steeped it didn’t smell really. The flavor is mostly just green tea that’s slightly roasty. Barely a popcorn flavor like in the other two I’ve tried.
So this one is clearly not the best Genmaicha in my book.
The search continues!

You should get this if you haven’t already. It’s $3 (with free shipping) and comes with samples of like 4 different green teas, one of which is a genmaicha that is very tasty. It also has houjicha, which is very roasty tasting.
Yeah plus it comes with a coupon code for $3 off your next order of $15 or more, so it’s effectively free if you end up liking the teas. :D
Awesome! :D Thanks for the heads up! You’re helping me save a lot of money xD First with WP and now this. You’re awesome! Thanks!
I’ve been on a huge sample kick. I have like seven things coming in the mail, lol. Out of curiosity, what brand was the genmaicha that you first tried and loved?
Holy Shanghai. Where all did you order from??
I have no idea what brand it was. I guess *Albertocanfly*’s dad got it in Japan or something, so it’s all in a different language. xD Nothing from here I am sure haha
I have samples coming from Nina’s, Yunomi, TeaVivre, Green Terrace Teas, and Harney & Sons. And I’m still waiting on my mugs that I bought from David’s which just shipped even though I bought them over a week ago… And I just bought an ounce of Nutmeg Cream from Butiki that was apparently being held for someone so I got it for $5. Lots of mail!
I still can’t believe you took a chance on sending me a GREEN tea. And I especially can’t believe that I LIKED it, albertocanfly! XD
No, it’s really fast! :P You just take a frying pan/skillet, heat it up, pour some (freshly washed, towel dried but still slightly damp) rice in it and keep moving the rice around the skillet until it turns into a toasty brown color(some of them will pop like popcorn, that’s normal). Then you mix the toasted rice 50/50 (or the ratio you like) with plain green tea. I use green rooibos instead of green tea because it’s caffeine free :P Hope that answers your question as well Cameron.
Tehehe, I just packaged you up a sample of a green tea from Adagio… green and Adagio… a double whammy for you.. but hey, worth a shot:P haha.
madametj I had no idea that it was so easy! How awesome.. now I must acquire some brown rice and green rooibos..:P
Hey, well now that you surprised me with the genmaicha I will try pretty much anything else ya send. Haha you broke me down with that one, albertocanfly!
madametj that sounds really good! I will have to look into that…I have never been one to make anything really, but that sounds like it would be worth it. Thanks! :D
I’m glad you like it :-)
Thanks so much! :D So happy to try more of Butiki!
