Its been a crazy day, 6 inches of rain and 16 hours w/o electricity. On top of that, I had no way to make any tea until now. I just can’t believe its been raining on the coast of Maine in Feb. On to the tea… This assam is very tasty and malty, I have had worse assams that were loose leaf. I’m thinking of going back and buying more of this tea tomorrow. Its a really nice smooth cup of tea with no bitterness.

This is a slightly sweet green tea. Its not overpowering or astringent, no bitterness. The green tea flavor is very mild. This is an ok tea for me, nothing special. I tried a second steep but it was too weak to drink. This was another T.J.Maxx tea that I found for 1.99 for 4 sachets of tea.

sounds like a good deal…too bad the tea didn’t rank a little higher.

This tea is a T.J.Maxx special at 1.99 (4 sachets) and its actually a very good tea. Its a whole leaf tea in a sachet. Its 100 per cent Assam and the tea is very malty. It has a sweetness and a nice full body to it. I have had better Assams, but not in a tea sachet. Tried a second steep as it said on the box, but no luck there. Too weak.

drank Awake English Breakfast by Tazo

We stopped at a Starbucks for this one. Its not a bad tea, but its nothing to write home about either. It was bold and brisk and wasn’t bitter. It will wake you up. The tea bags are huge.

This is very complex tea. I get different nuances every time I brew it different. Its a very earthy tea that is slightly sweet on the tongue. Its very nice for a cold rainy day in Maine.
An enjoyable tea.

Love Golden Monkey though I have not had the pleasure of the Teas Etc version!

drank Formosa Oolong by Harney & Sons

This is a great basic oolong with a nutty flavor. I use about 1/8 tsp of splenda and just sit, relax, and enjoy. This is one of my favorite oolongs.

drank Earl Grey (loose leaf) by Twinings

Decided to have my EG this morning and I always have this in my cupboard. Its my go to tea thats always there for me with the same taste that I love. Maybe I love it because I’ve drank it longer and more often. It makes no nevermind, it makes me happy in the morning and gets my day off to a great start. I don’t like a heavy bergamot presence which is why some of the other EG’s turn me off.

drank Pu'erh Leaf by Teas Etc

OK, so I had to try something different. This time I did steep the leaves for 15 sec and then decant. Then I steeped the leaves for 3 minutes and added 1/8 tsp of splenda. The tea had a grassy hay like smell. The taste was like grassy grain like. The taste was greatly improved for me. This tea is supposed to be very good for you and now I can drink it. Its hard for me to drink any tea with almost no or bad flavor. This is much better.

I’m spending lots of time with this tea. It has a sugar raisin type of smell to it. My first taste this morning gave me a sweetness that coated my tongue. I have tried a 5 minute steep, but a 4 minute one brings out more flavors and complexities. I can understand why this tea rated a second place and I’m no expect on tea by any means. I may drink this tea all day and then lament over having drank it all this evening. Such a warm and comforting tea.
