429 Tasting Notes
This tea was drinkable, much better than sencha. Its a little earthy and a little nutty tasting. It had a light mouthfeel and not as tasty as the genmaichi. I’m trying to like green teas, but its really not working for me. I like many of the chinese and Indian green teas but the Japanese variety is baffling me.
Preparation
I think I’m on a Yunnan kick today. This tea has beautiful leaves and has a rich malty smell. I get notes of chocolate and caramel with a slightly peppery finish. The steeped tea has a sugary raisin smell. The body and mouthfeel are full and this is just a very nice tea to sit and linger over.
Preparation
I’m really beginning to love this tea for breakfast. Its a Yunnan and I’m learning to love Yunnan teas. Its rich and malty with chocolate and caramel notes. It has that raisiny sugary smell which is nice in the mornings. The tea has very light astringency and no bitterness I can find. All this and I don’t need to adjust temp and the amount of leaf to get it. One teaspoon of leaf to 8 oz of boiling water, 4 minutes and there you have it. I really don’t need anything complicated in the mornings. Thank you Rishi and Yunnan.
Preparation
As much as I hated sencha, I really like this one. It has a nice nutty toasty taste and looks like lime kool aid. You can get lost in the smell, it is so intoxicating. It has a nice sweetness to it. I could get used to drinking this tea.
Preparation
Time to get back to my beginnings. I grew up with this tea in my house and it brings back memories of times past for me. This is my favorite Earl Grey tea and I have drank many many other brands and I always come back to this tea. Its perfect, the tea, the bergamot, its just all perfect. I always have this tea in my house. If you say I’m biased towards this tea, I would say that your right, I am. Its very smooth and mellow, no bitterness or astringency, Its a perfect Earl Grey.
Preparation
I awoke sleepy this morning and I just had to have a cup of this wonderful eye-opening brisk, robust tea. You can taste the assam and ceylon teas and the malty taste. It has the slight bitterness and the astringency of a breakfast tea. Very nice.
Preparation
I like this green tea. The smell is nutty and the taste is nutty with vegetal notes. I received this tea in my sampler which also included a sencha tea bag which I really didn’t like at all.
Hopefully the loose tea samples will taste as nice as the Genmaicha tea bag. I haven’t drank green tea before so I’m new at this type of tea.
Preparation
This is a great tea. It has that raisiny sugar smell and this one has caramel, cocoa and a sweet undertone to it. The leaves are black and gold and have a fresh malty smell. I like this tea very much.
Preparation
WOW – I can just about taste this tea by a couple of your sentences! I just added this to my Shopping List!
I’m adding to my shopping list too because Dan you make it sound just like another one of my faves (golden monkey). :)
The reason you may not care as much for the Japanese greens is the process. They steam them, whereas the Chinese pan fire the leaves. I, myself, far prefer the Chinese to the Japanese for this reason. Just a thought.
Dan, we’re total opposites- houjicha and gen mai cha are the only greens I don’t like lol.
