2145 Tasting Notes

I seem to be striking out with teas from the Persimmon Tree lately. I think that I enjoy this more by scent than by taste and was really surprised that this tea didn’t taste at all like I expected it to. I’m really glad that I only ordered a sample. I do love that I can pick up samples for around $1.

I was surprised that the rooibos stood out as much as it did and that I didn’t pick up much from the peach at all. You can taste the black base as well as a hint of cinnamon and a tart flavor from the apple. I think my main problem is with the apple flavor used, while it did taste like an apple should, I expected it to be much sweeter since it is called Peach Apple Crisp.

oh, i hate it when the taste doesn’t live up to the smell. =0(

Hmmmmm, my +15 from the Black Friday thread is samples from Persimmon, suddenly not too optimistic about them. I hope that you find some that you really like.

Short Sorceress

actually, I did really like the white guava and white peach.

Cavocorax

Well… that’s a few at least. I’m a bit nervous about mine, but I think 10 samples for $10 (and free shipping to CANADA!) is completely worth it if it helps me decide if I like a company or not. :D

I agree, it was a great deal, was just a little nervous about having 15 “not for me” teas in my house. Happy to hear that Sorceress liked some of them. Restored my hope. :))

I’m feeling a bit better about my samples today. I left my coconut creme in the fridge over night and can finally taste the coconut in it. I’ll probably do the same with the last of my peach apple crisp and see if that helps any.

I wanted to try the samples I had before I ordered any more. The $5 + free shipping offer is a really good one, and I do have some rewards points to use that will make it an even sweeter deal, but I’m not going to order any more samples yet.

I need to learn that rule “try the samples I had before I ordered any more”. I have tons of teas I haven’t tried yet, and I seem to keep ordering more. LOL time to get a grip (like I haven’t said that before).

I left this in the fridge over night and was surprised by how much more the coconut flavor was present the next day.

I ordered a sample of this recently and since I’m on a cream tea kick right now decided to try it out. The suggested instructions for this were to steep 2-4m in 180degree water, I steeped the first half of my sample for 3m and the second half of my sample for 4m. Neither left me impressed with this tea.

The white tea base came though strongly, followed by a hint of cream, however I could only barely taste the coconut. I was really hoping for more coconut flavor out of this tea so it was a bit of a let down.

Thanks go to Katiek for sending this to me in her extremely generous mystery tea box.

I know that I generally hate citrus and if anyone can change that it would be Della Terra. Against all the odds I did fall in love with Lemon Chiffon, so I tried to go in to this with an open mind. I’ll admit, I was worried when I first opened the package, all I could smell was the sharp citrus from the orange peel. That alone almost made me reseal the package and try again later. I’ve had a bad run of citrus teas the last couple days and didn’t want to add to the list.

I was pleasantly surprised on my first sip. While the main flavor of this is orange the sharpness of the citrus is really cut down by the addition of the cream flavoring. I’m not really getting much of the caramel or any of the oolong. I’m still not in love with this tea, but it is officially my favorite orange tea yet, perhaps I’m making progress?

uh oh… and i’ve included a citrus taste in ours. hmmm, but it’s not actual citrus. well, if you hate it turf it into the garden or pass it on to a friend!

I am always interested in swapping so if you see anything in my cupboard that you want to try just send me a message. Please keep in mind that I order most of my teas in sample sizes and may not have a lot to swap. I’m also trying to keep my swaps limited to one a month so I don’t break the bank.

My favorite tea companies to order from are American Tea Room, Rishi, TeaVivre, and Single Origin Teas, however I am constantly lured away from my favorites by a good sale.

Ingredients I love in tea
rose, peach, oolong, osmanthus, vanilla, marshmallow root and peppermint

Ingredients I dislike in tea:
spearmint, chocolate, orange, hibiscus, sage and for the most part lemon.

I am a firm believer that sage only belongs in my thanksgiving stuffing/dressing and absolutely not in my tea.

Allergies
Cinnamon, Chocolate, Burdock Root, and Goji Berries

Teawares:
FORLIFE Curve Teapot, 24oz
Adagio ingenuiTEA, 16oz
Adagio Iced ingenuiTEA, 32oz
Zojirushi Water Pot, 4L
Libbey Country Fair drinking jars for ice tea
TeaVivre Travel Gaiwan

Rating Guidelines:

100 – 90: Pantry essential and some of my all time favorites that I can’t live without.

89 – 80: You’ll have a pretty good chance of finding this is my pantry on a regular basis, but it isn’t the end of the world if I run out.

79 – 70: I might consider restocking this at some point if the price was right.

69 – 40: Not undrinkable, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it again.

39 – 20: What in the world were they thinking? Probably still finished this just because I hate to waste anything.

19 – 0: Wow, that’s so terrible chances are pretty good I dumped it out and gave away the rest.

My current top five favorite teas:

China Black – Rishi Tea
Earl Grey Cream – Zen Tea
Lemoncello – American Tea Room
Nonpareil Anxi Qing Xiang TieGuanYin Oolong – TeaVivre
White Tea Rose Mélange – Rishi Tea
