LP/DRT/RU OOOOOlllloooonngggg taste test #2
this was darker, more morello cherry fruit & sweet.
I liked this one. was more resonant than thick & airy , maybe somehow pineapples in with the cherries.less creamy more watery or glassy or honeyed ., defo less roast than #1 & i liked it much more for that because of the fruit, which was quite well represented although not tropical, more wet night rainforesty :D
Ya, I liked this one. it has honey & fruit but they both dont lead the pack I would say 1/3 cherry, 1/3 floral/vegetal jin xuan, 1/4 honey, 1/4 watery/glassy.
Nice! deep dark and cherry ish
My LP & Daylon Oolong taste test package arrived.
So #1
Its a medium, slight earthiness or woodiness, slight cream with its med roasty Vegetal profile. smooth, not smoky but ashy? so the woody is greyish & thick with hints of brown in there.
certainly wasnt fruity or creamy forward, more thick and spread out in taste
Nice but I think the roast overshadowed the taste a bit – im thinking more in the 20-30% roast range, towards the topper of the end for this type of oolong
Really like this sheng. Its fruity and pleasantly sour. With a slightly thick mouth. The strength of taste isnt too strong at first, and I have had three cups during extended lie-in butnow im buzzing. Its a bit too strong for me, as with other Tea Urchin teas I have tried they seem to hit me quite hard.
Slightly camphor nose & a comforting fruity & vegetal that I seem to like from Yiwu, although this one isnt as round as the snake blend, but there is something soft about it. I sometimes get creamy from this as well – its something like milk, not taste, but in its structure and feels in my mouth. Nice stuff, but im currently balancing on the edge of it falling into sourness, which isnt my preference with this milky-structured (to me) sheng.
I freally really dig the wrapper art as well :D

Sipdown, and its always with a sad smile when its a Da Yu Ling/Pear Mt Oolong, with the area being conservated by the government I’m bothered what will happen to the prices of the real Oolong.. Theres already fakes about & this will get worse..
But anyway, i digress -
Seriously, how nice is this tea? Da Yu Ling, Li Shan, Ali, all these mountains have a serious place in my heart. Got to be the some of the nicest, most subtly vegetal-y fragrant, soft, buttery ‘green-tasting’ tea available. Its such an accessible tea for when you dont want something with punch..
This bag was getting on a bit, I think its two years old now, and has lost some of its presence & I didnt get any apples or pears, but still has a lovely vegetal flavour & huigan, although a lot more watery in the soup. Chaqi is nice as well, relaxing.

I had this one saved from the #OolongTimeAgo aged tea buy, as i’m a fan of Dongfang Meiren/Oriental Beauty, and this one is a year older than I actually am, so I’ve been very interested to know how it tastes :)
Decided to go gongfu with this one & glad I did. The aroma from the gaiwan was old stored sheng & leafy piles of sticks & medicinal notes & forest floor/earth.
The taste was very aged, like an old sheng but less fruity and more woody. It seems to have been stored very well (although I dont actually know how the storage would affect an OB, i’m just going by sheng) & I really digged the mellow complexity of it. I was tasting different things in there but unfortunately they were covered over by this aged taste which was the most prominent over the 10 steeps or so I gave this tea.
Cha Qi was nice, didnt get any jitters and felt calmed.
I was searching for any spicy or honey notes, for some reason I thought they might get somehow pronounced like the stonefruit in pu but Dongfang Meiren doesnt have that sour fruitiness in the first place that enables the changes over time. There was an interesting aftertaste which at times was almost fruity but mostly it was aged woody notes.
An interesting tea for sure, glad to have experienced it! Thanks to LP for organising things as he always does, and thanks to TeaExplorer for joining with me to be able to gift this one to the group :)
