1138 Tasting Notes
Made this stove top tonight, first stovetop chai of the season! It’s only +7 C and a chance of freezing tonight (covered my pumpkin!) so it seemed appropriate. Lovely and thick and rich with honey and almond milk. Enjoying it and it’s helping me stay warm.
It’s only 6 days til my best friend’s wedding, so this is a welcome reprieve from the last minute goings-ons! Lots of little things left to do but we are almost there :) looking forward to it!
Anyways, see previous notes on this tea. It is delicious as usual, and I still have lots left as I don’t drink it often due to the caffeine haha.
Helllooooo Steepster! It has been a while yet again! Life has been keeping me busy with helping plan my bestie’s wedding, her stagette, bridal shower, etc..and work being extremely crazy, along with the usual summer activities ie. keeping the yard up, trying to stay healthy and run outside a lot, etc etc haha. So yeah, I honestly have not been drinking much tea as it’s been warm here and life has really just been so busy.
But this week, we have hit a cold, dreary, rainy spell of weather…and to match, my office is miserably cold. I also think I obtained a small cold from camping in very chilly weather in Banff this weekend. Thus, out comes tea again. Yesterday I had a cup of the Skinny and neglected to log it..today is my last tea bag of this. Keeping my hands and body warm. I am getting excited for fall to arrive so I can get back into the fall teas, I see DT has out their fall collection today :D going to hit that up for more Pumpkin Chai of course. Anyways, this tea is the same as always, warming, soothing, sweet and lemony. An old friend. The water at my work sucks, but ah well. See previous notes on this tea!
@Fjellrev – It has indeed been a fun summer just super busy! Haha not much down time for just relaxing and reading, or going to the lake even. Ah well, keeps life interesting :) have you been to many of the festivals this year? Hope yours has been great too!
I only get sick when the weather is nice. Not while spending weeks in the rain. Lemon balm and honey sounds like something you could make with a lemon and a honey. Sooooo looking forward to Halloween.
@MrQuackers – I definitely think the at zero mountain weather and late nights is what did me in, as well as not taking my vitamins haha, I always end up sick when I don’t take my vitamins! This tea is quite sweet actually for being lemon related, very soothing :) and cheers to Halloween, one of my favorite holidays! #soon
I’ve never reviewed this but I’ve fed it to people in my house when theyou are sick and it seemed to help them. Well it was my turn for the dreaded summer cold, I haven’t had a summer cold in years, last time I was sick was Christmas! Ugh I guess it was time. So I’ve been drinking various teas, unfortunately I’m low on my ginger go-tos so I decided to try this. Mild, soothing, lemon lime flavor with Lemongrass at the forefront and a cooling sensation from the mint. I added honey so it is helping my poor throat but I will probably need more meds for it soon haha. The caffeine isn’t doing much in terms of waking me up but then I have been sleeping most of the day from this beast. Gah. Decent tea for colds, hope it does the job!
Ugh it is freezing again in my office, we had a good month or so of perfect office temperatures (after a spell of it being way too hot in the office and they had to fix it again) but idk what happened these past 2 days. Whoever complained about the perfect office temps is not in my good books right now. I am soooo cold. Hence, tea. Made a cup of this at work (it’s been SO LONG since I had tea at work lol) and it smells lovely and is warming my hands. Maybe the small jolt of caffeine will help wake me up too, I am very tired. See previous notes on this tea.
A huge thank you to Teavivre for the opportunity to win this tea along with 4 other spring greens in a giveaway!! I have received the teas after a long journey and am excited to get back into tea with some new ones in my cupboard. It’s been a while in a tea rut for me so maybe I’ll spring out of it now!
The dry leaves smell so yummy and vegetal, reminiscent of Laoshan green from Verdant to me, I wonder if it’s coincidence that Laoshan and Lu Shan sound similar haha :) the leaves are fine and slightly curled in appearance. Smellso so fresh! I steeped these Western style for 3 min with 175 degree water.
The steeped liquor smells richly nutty and vegetal, with a slight salted note. I want to say cashews, even though I have never eaten themy cuz of my peanut allergy lol.
As for the flavor, wow this is so rich and good! Very nutty, I’m not sure what kind of nuts but that is the main flavor, with a beany soy and vegetal greens note. The aftertaste is salty nuts and lingers for quite some time.
Overall, this is a very satisfying and rich tasting green tea. Not overly light in flavor, it has lots of body. Hopefully the caffeine doesn’t snack me too hard haha. Once again, thank you Teavivre and especially Angel for ensuring this tea arrived after a long journey :)
Flavors: Nutty, Salt, Soybean, Vegetal
Wow, this is my first cup of tea in sooo long…I guess I got in a bit of a rut and wasn’t in the mood for tea. :(. But luckily I am having half a cup of this before bed. My sinuses and soul needed this tonight. There has been quite a bit of stress in my life between work, my friends wedding and my bf working up in the area where all the fires are (he is supposed to go back after over a week off here but idk if he will now that they are evacuating the camps again). Just lots on my mind. I should have tea more often to help soothe me. Will get on that asap lol. Anyways, this minty cooling cup is really hitting the spot for me tonight. Hope it helps my poor allergy inflamed sinuses lol. See previous notes on this tea:)
Having a cup of this before bed with the guy after a lovely 10.3km run in misty rain after work :) we both enjoy the rain, so it was great! This tea is also great, I haven’t had it in a long time. This batch is definitely quite fruity, with strawberry and almost a peach note to me. Smooth mouthfeel, soft, sweet jasmine tea. And I’m so relaxed and sleepy I doubt the caffeine will bug me tonight lol. Still one of the greats for jasmine tea IMO. See previous notes!
Also – LOL, I read a note I wrote on this 3 yrs ago and I had it while watching a show on Yunnan, I am pretty sure that same show was on tonight and it’s what made the bf request this tea tonight haha! And I even craved a Yunnan Black tea at first but too much caffeine so I decided to have a cup of this with him. Exact same thought process lol, what are the chances?
Sipdown! It’s been so long since I’ve done a sipdown! It is a grey, gloomy and chilly spring day here today, and I was craving a good EG. Luckily I had enough left of this for a mug, as it’s just what I needed. Chocolatey, caramel and bergamot melding together perfectly to make a warm, cozy cup. Sadly I won’t be able to purchase this again as Verdant doesn’t offer blends anymore. But I will enjoy this final cup today and enjoy the grey day. See previous notes on this tea :)
Had a cup of this at work this morning, slowly easing back into having a low-medium caffeine cup in the morning. Still have limited myself to only 1 cup of tea a day, and I feel pretty good :) this cup was good this morning, I still am amazed at how much this tea grew on me. Toasty and citrusy, fresh and warming. Yum. One of the few from DT that I will keep repurchasing. See previous notes on this tea.
when you say that you limit yourself to 1 cup of tea a day, do you sill drink herbals outside of the 1 cup? I myself limit myself to about 2 cups of green tea for caffeine and drink several litres of herbals throughout the day.
@Kristal – I still have herbals if I want to have more tea, but trying to stick with only 1 cup of caffeine. I also try to not have any caffeinated pop if I have a cup of caffeinated tea. Herbals are fair game, as much as I feel like :)
