1138 Tasting Notes
Hello Monday..I oversteeped this tea and have bitter, tart, mostly disgusting hibiscus water lol. Next time we will try a 3 min steeping time, this has a ton of potential but just wayyy too tart right now. I steeped about 6 mins. Gahhhhh. My bad. Monday brain needs to wake up when making tea. The very mild coconut and strawberry flavor is nice though. If that can come out more, it will be delicious. But I messed it up lol. My bad.
I haven’t been writing many tea notes lately..I have been drinking tea, but just haven’t felt like logging. Mostly some sipdowns too. But today I feel like I should log this yummy sheng, as it is making my Saturday a good one. The bf got called to work unexpectedly at 6 am, so that kind of threw a wrench in the day/weekend. So I have been brewing this tea with a killer headache (it seems to be helping) and working away outside cleaning up the raspberry patch. A messy, scratchy job but I’m happy it’s done!
Anyways, this tea is light, fresh, fruity, and a bit of a grape flavor today. It could still be the apricot, my allergies are running rampant so I had a pill today and my sinuses are dried up now haha. But this tea is still delicious as always, I see it is now archived on Verdant’s site so probably won’t have a chance to order again once I finish this bag. I should try Master Han’s 2014 to see how it compares one day :) see previous notes on this tea!
Oh, and in entirely unrelated news that I want to share because it makes me happy – we have a robin nesting under our deck right outside the kitchen window! They are in the process of building the nest and have been sitting in it a bit already! I will try to get pictures at some point and post on IG :)
ETA – I found the apricot flavor :) about the 4th or 5th steeping. Sooooo delicious.
I’m sipping this down this morning, after much hoarding :( but it’s the perfect morning for it! It’s sunny out, the flowers are beginning to bloom, and it’s Saturday after a long week! What better way to celebrate than with this delicious tea! I slightly overleafed as I would not have had enough left for a final cup, so today started out a bit stronger in the malt department, but still oh so good. Less honey notes today too and a bit more fruit, so when I order more of this, I will remember to keep the 3 min steeping time but use a bit less leaf :) I am sad this is out, but I see WP was having a sale……..not that I should order more right now, but I am considering it :) see previous notes on this tea!
This tea is so freaking good. I am having a yixing session with it and it’s amazing -woody, creamy, mushrooms, and almost a milk chocolate note coming out. The smell is soooo good too, definitely a creamy chocolate scent! So rich, so delicious. I needed this. Perfect for a chilly, lazy, stay inside day. The bf is hungover so might be a relaxing, drink tea kind of day so as to not disturb him with vacuuming, errands, and everything else I should get done. But I should just enjoy some down time and de-stress.
Oh, and prayers and love to everyone affected by the Nepal earthquake. Such a terrible thing to have happened :(.
I struggle with pu-er. Either I find them fishy and gross, or I find one that I like but doesn’t like me — they keep upsetting my stomach. This one sounds good.
I wonder if making pu-er in a yixing vessel would help. I’ve just used a Western-style metal strainer and glass cup.
I agree it’s terrible what happened in Nepal :( and I also make puerh western style, much more regularly than yixing, but I usually do at least 1 or 2 25s rinses then only 30s steeps, seems to tone down fishiness quite a lot :) I find shu good for my tummy but sheng sometimes too strong for it. Hopefully you can find one that works, good puerh is awesome in my opinion! :)
Agreed. The Nepal quake has killed more than 10 times as many people as the Yunnan quake of 9 months ago. http://steepster.com/discuss/10941-nepal-earthquake-more-than-7000-dead-18000-injured
It’s been a weird week, lots of ups and downs, busy/not busy spells at work, and some less than good news regarding family. I am so tired and am grateful it is the weekend so I can recharge and try to relax. I made this tea yesterday but was so busy I didn’t really get a chance to drink it at work, so I made it today as well and am having it as my morning cup. With milk and sugar to make it cozier and because it looks like it will rain outside. I also don’t need much caffeine today as it will just aggravate all the things I am worrying about. So far this tastes like the correct pick for the morning. Tasty and comforting. See previous notes on this tea.
A sipdown of this lovely sheng from Teavivre! I’m very happy that this tea grew on me and I have been quite enjoying its green flavor :) still a hint of smoke and tobacco, but not as assertive as when I first had it. I still prefer the other sheng from Teavivre that I tried, can’t remember its name, so this one might not make the re-order list. But it’s still good :D Hoping this helps with my seasonal allergies (they kicked in on top of my year long ones now ughhh) so I don’t have to take allergy pills for the entire month. Thanks again to Angel for this sample!
Quick work sipdown of this tea right now! This was delicious and I will hopefully always have a Yabao in my cupboard, I still have Verdant’s so I won’t be ordering this for a while, but it was a really good one! Made Western this morning, steeped w/ boiling water for 4 minutes. Sweet, tasty, good! See previous notes on this tea :)
Thanks to Angel at teavivre for this free sample! I didn’t log my first cup of this apparently and didn’t pay a ton of attention to my cup this morning lol so I will write a more detailed note later! This was fruity, malty, a bit sweet, and really good. A good feeling after drinking it and it wasn’t a heavy black tea. So far, yum! And yes, a more detailed note later :)
Mmm I needed this after a long, frustrating Monday. Luscious, creamy caramel, burnt sugar, a bit of berries and rock, this oolong seems to be improving every time I have it. It’s soothing and making me think of sprung tonight. Now time for some x files and relaxing with tea for the evening! See previous notes on this tea :)
