141 Tasting Notes
More samples from TeaVivre! Once I hammer out some space in the tea cupboard, I’ll DEFINITELY be ordering more tea from this company. I love the freshness of all samples provided thus far.
The man and I tried this tea last night after a shrimp curry dinner (nom). He added milk and sweetener to his, and I drank mine straight (both brewed Western, approx 2 tsp per cup). My non-sweetened tea tasted lightly of smokey malty chocolatey goodness. I really enjoyed how smooth this tasted, and really appealed to me since I am still not quite used to heavy, bold, in-your-face black teas. This was on the sweet side, and I like it that way!
Preparation
Big beautiful leaves spilled out of a sample package from TeaVivre, and they’re so pretty! Brewed according to directions (2-3 tsp per 8oz water), I’m getting a floral taste at first, and then a pine needle crispness on the tongue. I quite enjoy this, and wonder why I still buy flavoured white teas when I can drink this; delicious and pure.
3 steeps in, and my headache is starting to disappear. Thumbs up!
Preparation
I couldn’t get past the chemical taste during the first steep. This tea is OK after that taste goes away, but it takes at least one or two steepings to get it past that. I bought 50g of this with a Groupon, and I finished about half the bag before giving it to some poor unsuspecting soul.
Preparation
I received this and four other teas from TeaVivre for sampling, so I will use my faded journalistic integrity to provide a bias-free review ;)
Taking the advise of Jim Marks, I did not rinse this lovely little tuocha. 45 seconds for first steep in a 250ml gaiwan, there is a tiny bit of fishy smell emanating from my mug. I thought I would be turned off by it, but I don’t mind it actually. It’s really mellow and blends nicely with the additional scents of hay in this tea.
As this is my first tuocha, I didn’t want to steep it for very long during the first run. That turned out to be a good idea; this tastes smooth and light! There is a little bit of hay on the tip of the tongue, and I can tell there is going to be some additional sweetness in subsequent steeps.
Gonna play more Skyrim and have a few more cups of this!
EDIT: Second steep was 30 seconds, and it’s way darker than the first. Stronger, more pronounced flavours. Still quite nice!
Preparation
I received a 10g sample in my order, and I am quite pleased with this tea! I didn’t rinse, and the first steep was around 30 sec. The wet leaves smell like a damp floral forest of loveliness. The scent somehow gave me a slight sense of deja-vu, as though somewhere in my childhood I had experienced that aroma before.
Smells like sweet veggies, tastes like buttery sweet veggies. I really can’t wait for steep 2!
Do you happen to have any left? I only stumbled across this tea on Steepster the other day and it’s no longer available from Verdant anymore. I would love to have a chance to try it, even a teaspoon. Feel free to check out my cupboard if you are willing/able to swap (I also have several other Verdant Teas in sample sizes)
So sorry Autumn, I gifted the last bit to DJBooth.
Not a problem, funny I inquired with him since he’s local, but I know he liked it and Angrboda offered the rest of hers. Thanks forgetting back to me though.
