1759 Tasting Notes
I enjoyed a cup this morning. My first at home cup in almost a month!
What a ride that was… now I’m coming down from the high of my vacay, I need to get back into “work” mode.
Today was all about decompressing after having company 24/7 for the last two weeks. Tomorrow, the real schtick gets rolling.
I was surprised that this tea worked so well today. It was absolute perfection without any additives, which I don’t get very often. I mean sure, I may not add something, but that doesn’t mean its perfect. So I relished this cup! Just the right mix of black tea and refreshing mint. Yes.
Anyhow. I feel whole again right now. Its good to be back.
Lime? Yep. Jello? Yep. Creamy? Yes!
Not quite as tart as I’d hoped but very satisfying :)
One day I’ll make it iced. I’m undecided on a rating as yet but I’m leaning towards high.
Also seriously crashing from my days away at camp.
On another note I kinda wish these notes were separated into before 52teas was sold and after. I never tried the original so I’m not sure how it compares, and it can be a pain trying to find the “new” notes since I haven’t been around for awhile to see them as they pass through my feed. I wonder if I’m the only one that feels that way…
Nope. I feel that way too. I just drank some old 52Teas Birthday Cake Blend and was thinking the exact same thing.
Ah now THIS is the tea I was looking for.
I’m so glad the base was changed. Or something has anyhow. It’s right back to pancake fully cooked goodness (previous note indicates half done cakes).
It isn’t quite as strong a flavour as I recall but then I had my great loss of tastebuds and gradual but not complete return so I’m sure that part is just my own failing :)
Also, I’m flipping this from not recommended to aw heck yeah recommended
Backlog:
I tried this while camping. Not a controlled steep at all and we had such tiny mugs… but despite all of that it was quite delish! Uber impressed. Very much like the blend I remember from days of yore. Spot on banana bread. Mmmmm.
(I must remind myself to write a whole review next time!)
Hmmm. I won’t rate this one for now. I got distracted and oversteeped a bit. We have company coming over and have been cleaning house. Hmph.
So the taste is a bit sharp/sour, like the kind of ceylon tea that I dislike. I added milk and 1/2 tsp sugar, which helped. Then a dollop of cream.
The pumpkin note is nice though and if what I taste is really cheesecake (and not cream) that part is lovely as well! I think I catch a bit of crust? Hard to say. I need to try a more controlled steep.
Again, if this is how the tea really goes, I’d give it a 75(previous rating from years ago before this reblend), though I suspect a proper brew will reveal some much brighter flavours. Noms.
This was on sale. I got excited. $2.50 for a box! Now I know why.
Should have checked the reviews first…
First, the bag was too heavy for the string. It popped right off when I went to remove the bag. Not a big deal, but still, a bad sign. Oh and there is an actual metal staple in the bag. Ick.
As for the tea well it was ok enough. A bit thick and bitter even though it wasn’t steeped that long. I added cream (thats all they have where I am now) and sugar to even things out. It did help, but I wouldn’t say it was great.
Overall I don’t have a problem finishing a cup of this. But I just don’t find anything lovable there. Not even the scent, which is usually what fools me. It’s just kinda neutral. That’s what I get for letting my love for black forest cake lead the purse strings…
Damn I wish I’d listened to my head (not my tea mania) and checked the reviews here first.
I’m bad for that too. And I agree with the staple. I’ll never understand why staples were ever thought ok with a teabag.
Funny, I’m actually thinking about cutting the bag open and putting it into a strainer. One that’s been treated to not go rusty!
When will we tea nerds ever learn :P
Kirk, its a staple used to close the bag of tea (the one that goes into the cup of hot water, not the one housing the bag of bags :)
So I finally tried this one. A friend bought a bunch and decided to share with me. Lucky day!
I quite like it. Nice and roasty and smooth. It’s like the oolong you get in a fancy Chinese restaurant sometimes, only better. I really get the stone fruit and mineral notes. A tiny hint of vegetal as well.
The problem I have is that right now, the first cup or two is great, fabulous even, but then I get bored and want something else. I kinda feel like I should go for endless infusions to get my moneys worth but at this time I’m simply not interested?!
and why don’t I have that experience with other straight high quality teas? Hmmm
I really love this one. I have not had any in a bit because they were out and I was a little burned out on it for a little while. It’s a top summer tea for me though.
I can see how a tea lover would fade in and out of love with this one. Its great but I wouldn’t want it around for all of time!
I find that a few steeps worth is all I want, as I have so many teas, that resteeping delays me getting to others I want to have. Also, I think that this type of oolong isn’t one to give many multiple steeps as compared to the rolled up and less roasted offerings. I like to use my frequent steeper redemption on this one because it is a really pricey tea.
That is actually why I grabbed a bit of this in the first place, to see which one I wanted 50g of! :P
Ha ha! It’s good. It was out for a long time, one time I got more Mighty Aphrodite, and the other I had Gold Rush.
Ah so this is the one that was out of stock! I need to do a side by side comparison with Gold rush, see which one I like more :P
But I have to buy that sample myself heh
I have a head cold. Bleh. My throat is all hoarse and I keep coughing.
So I made this with a bit of honey. I thought it was only half/two thirds of a teaspoon but it turned out overly sweet. Whatever. It was soothing and thats all I really wanted. Well that and a flavour strong enough to blast through my dampened taste buds!!
A friend shared this with me today. It had been given to her by someone else so I’m really not sure how old it was.
Whatever the case, I had seen reviews before and thought it may be too permfumey. But alas! it was lovely. A tad bit on the heavy side but quite manageable.
So very smooth n silky. The liquid seemed to float down my throat (and yes I know that makes no sense. and yes the image in my head is quite magical/disneyish. Singing birds and all)
Lots of layered vanilla notes, and something floral I couldn’t place. At times I tasted citrus notes but they were so fleeting that I really wasn’t sure if it was my imagination.
An absolute perfect tea for afternoon chatting.
Flood?
We had a long term leak in our cupboard last year and didn’t realize it. Lots of water and damage.
ouch. time to call the handyman ;)
we had a mysterious flood too! it didn’t hit my puerh though :)
haha no kidding. This was our second one. Both of them hit my tea. Not all of it. Glad yours is ok! :)
Oh wow, how awful!
Oh no!!!!
is your tea going to be allright?
ehhh not all of it. I had to throw some out. Oh well, life goes on right :)
true :/
want me to send you some to replace some of it?
Aw thanks for the offer Kirk. I’m ok right now. There is lots that I haven’t tossed but need to drink as its gone a bit stale with exposure.
ok :)
