1759 Tasting Notes
Tasty!
Not my fave ever green tea, but pretty decent overall. A bit fruity(peach/apricot?), which I like, and a bit vegetal which is also nice. I think what bothers me just a smidge here is that I prefer things more to the extreme if it isn’t a matter of delicate/complex flavours which this tea is not. So it’d be better for me if this had more fruitiness or more vegetal/grassiness. But the middleground here just sits in a strange kindof place for me. My palate feels a bit confused, and doesn’t know what to make of it.
I have one more cup to experiment with, so hopefully that will clear up my vague feelings on this tea!
Hmmm. Banana flavour is pretty mild in this one. Then again I used only one teabag for a 12oz mug so I’ll have to try it later with a more traditional ratio. I find with teabags it generally doesn’t present an issue for me, as I just steep it a bit longer instead. It was verging on bitter so I added some milk and let the bag sit in a minute or so longer.
Anyhow, this pleasant enough for what I paid. Will write a more proper review later.
Also considering chocolate banana tea pops in the summer :P
(if I remember!)
Preparation
This made me sneeze when I opened the packet. A dusty tea, it seems.
And wow is it ever spicy! in a good way. Adding half a tsp of sugar really brings out the chocolate note as well.
I love how rich and creamy it is without adding any milk. I guess the chocolate chips helped there. The spice vs chocolate level is just perfect.
I’m really glad I was able to try this. To be honest, this is what I wish the David’s tea version could live up to.
Oh goodness this is delish. What a great way to use up my free 50g. Really happy with my choice!
It’s rich, buttery, and quite intense. Mind you, I overleafed this a tad, which leaves a bit of bitterness in the aftertaste. It reminds me of how spinach sometimes tastes. The same bitter I get from brussel sprouts (which I hate) but paired with the buttery sugar notes, the whole package really works for me. A rather complex tea… YUM!
I steep very lightly and under leaf. So approximately half a DT teaspoon to 12 or 16 oz. And resteep a couple of times too.
Ah. I know the bag says to use 3/4 of a tsp. Which means this will go a long way at half for 12 or 16oz. Thx Evol! :)
I just picked up 25g of this, seeing as it is on sale since it is being cut, but I will get more before it is gone if I decide I like it (I suspect I will).
A DT staff member told me the other day that they are bringing in maybe five straight teas on August 2nd. The selection sounded promising. One of them is white peony.
I bought this at the tea festival after trying a sample… and I was HOOKED.
This reminds me of a blend I had as a tea lover way back when I was just getting into tea. Figures I can’t recall where it was from!
Ah well.
I love the way this one is blended. A little tart, very citrusy, and a hint of bitterness with a faint aftertaste of sweetness.
Oh and my palate tastes distinct a grapefruit note, despite there being none in the ingredients. And I love me some grapefruit :)
Must be the orange vs hibiscus vs carrot shrugs!
This is a pretty decent chai!
I picked it up because it was super affordable and I was lacking chai in my cupboard.
Having a bagged tea around is also really good for when I want tea but haven’t got time to wash my infuser. (or when I’m feeling super lazy :P )
This is the perfect balance of mild malty goodness and spice. A little too astringent but then I find Chai usually is because I oversteep it so that the cup will tolerate my addition of milk better. For some reason I tend to find the milk is too overpowering when made on a stovetop so adding a dash or two of milk is ideal for me.
Also, I sampled it before adding some milk and I suspect I’d really enjoy a full cuppa that way as well.
Something else that impressed me was the vacuum packed bag inside the box, and then the plastic sealing it overtop of the box! Ultimate freshness. Then again, it does say it was packaged Jan 29 2015. Bah. 20 bags for $2.50. I’m not complaining. Not yet anyhow!
Grape. Yup lots of grape! really sweet, like a candy. I adore this when hot. Seriously. It was so good! but then it cooled and I started to notice that bubblegum note. Ugh. I really don’t like that as it is so standard and boring. Oh well. I had a few good sips at the very least!
I bought this at the tea festival hoping to find a replacement for the Butiki licorice chai I love. Except after searching for so long(and thanks for all the licorice! sorry, couldn’t resist) of course it didn’t need to be chai, just licorice! I have a chai sugar that I can add to it when I want so I do have some options :)
Anyhow. Opening the tin, I didn’t find much of a scent. Vague herbally licorice followed by a basic black tea aroma. I wasn’t put off though, as I know how potent licorice is.
After steeping for three min, I added milk and maybe a third tsp of sugar.
The verdict? Yum. A great balance between the tea and licorice. I’m also loving that medicinal tingle on my tongue. Oh also, the licorice part does evolve as the cup cools. It has more of an anise and fennel influence when hot, and a straight licorice/fennel note as it cools. I’m really liking it.
Next time, I’ll try it with my chai sugar :)
Disclaimer: The lovely person who owns 3Teas was in a bunch of my tea classes. And you know what, I can honestly say that this review isn’t biased at all! it really is delish.
Preparation
This really did taste like fruit loops. I’m so tempted to pick some up…. even though I rarely drink herbals these days. I’m a sucker for novelty nostalgia inducing stuff, what can I say. Hey maybe it’ll get me back into non caffeinated teas.
Yesterday was such a tease. I was only able to hit up the tea festival for an hour or two, and it was so crowded that I didn’t bother pushing my way into the crowded areas.
I don’t mind though, as the highlight was seeing my tea peeps! :)
Ok I just had this again and it was significantly better. I kept it to about 3 min and 15 seconds, then added half a tsp of sugar. I find it works best if I aerate it around my teeth a little the way they taught us in wine class… a smooth gentle kind of sip that catches on your breath and glides through the mouth. I’m doing a terrible job of explaining, I know! sorry :/
Bah. Seems this is merely a finicky tea. Keeping the rating as is since I have no idea if I can get this consistently. That said, it would get a bump up to about 78. As intoxicating as it is, there is also that slight lingering/burning artificial taste.
You totally should, it was so much fun! mine was just at a wine festival. Did you know wine has legs? :P
(its the amount it slides up & down the glass when you swirl it)
Has it made you pickier about wines? Also, do you notice a huge difference in taste based on price? I’ve read interesting articles about wine snobs, doing blind taste tests, can’t really taste the difference between cheap and expensive ones. Shows how it can be really psychological.
I hear you. I like this tea as well, but there is no distinct flavor (like the butteriness of gyokuro, etc) so I’m neither here nor there with this tea.
Good to know I’m not alone! I might try pairing it with a wine or something. Maybe make it into a spritzer
