464 Tasting Notes
Got this To-Go from the store this morning. I’ve had smoother lemon teas. There was something slightly jarring between the lemon flavor and the orange flavor in here. Was there bergamot? Somehow the oily orange flavor didn’t combine with both the lemon and the orange rind very well. I could taste each one distinctly, but they didn’t seem to come to accord in my mouth.
The base itself seemed like a very strong, tannic breakfast tea. It would have tasted nice with a squeeze of fresh lemon.
I put a pitcher of this to cold-steep overnight so I could have some when I came home from work. Well I come home and my Mom had already drank about half the pitcher! We had tried this hot the other night and she couldn’t wait to try it cold. I’m just happy I was able to grab a glass before she polished off the rest. Lol!
As a cold brew I feel the citrus is a little more tame and the sage and lavender come out even more. I love how the liquor actually gets a little pulpy from the fruit. It’s like a sophisticated lemonade!
Thank you, Shelley_Loraine for the box of yummy teas that came in the mail today! I opened this up and went straight for the Butiki. :-)
This tea did taste like pistachios. There was a distinctive nutty quality in scent and first part of the taste. The green base was vegetal, buttery and maybe even a bit salty. I felt like I was tasting spinach very strongly as it cooled, which I enjoyed.
I got one very large cup out of this and I think I’d be more interested in trying the base on its own rather than the blend again. It was good, but not one of my favorites.
I asked the lady at the counter for something strong this morning because my mind was foggy from too little sleep this week. She suggested this and it smelled good, so I got it to-go with a little with soy milk because, hey, it’s chai!
This was an ok chai. I’ve had worse and better. It was fairly smooth and I liked that the cinnamon was prominent. A little ginger added some heat. I’m finding that I don’t like anise in Davidstea blends.
Also I really don’t know if it woke me up very much because I’m still wondering vaguely whether it’s Wednesday or Thursday. Then again, caffeine has never really had an overwhelming effect on me, which is why I can drink black teas at night and still sleep soundly.
I’m getting to the bottom of the bag and there was a whole lot of chili pepper in this cup. Seriously- I was sneezing! Still a good cup of tea and I got my licorice fix for the evening.
This is some powerful stuff, right? I remember getting a sneeze or two out of my own pouch! I ususually have it when I feel a little under the weather, I find it very soothing for soar throat.
I really never thought I would love a floral tea so much. It’s nice pick-me-up for this afternoon. I have just about enough for two more cups. I may have to make a 3rd Butiki order. Steepster is getting to me! :-)
Also… I’m thinking of starting to swap, but what kind of packaging can I use to swap swap tea? Just regular plastic baggies? Is there something better I can get so I can parcel out samples of larger amounts of tea that I have?
I use the snack size ziplock baggies. Sometimes I double bag them if they’re strongly flavored and might contaminate other teas in the swap package.
Butiki is a hard one to stay away from. I’m always wanting to order more right after I place an order. The free samples keep me coming back too. I’m sending you a pm about swapping :)
Dollar stores and craft stores have great small sized bags as well…and later if you’re really keen you can get the heat sealed ones….
Why didn’t I think of the dollar store?! The ones by me have some crazy stuff, so they just might have something that I could use for swaps. Thanks, Sil!
After having the guayusa this morning, this tea seems particularly bright in comparison. It was vegetal, slightly sweet, and just a little astringent. It got creamier and even the teensiest bit floral as it cooled, but it never reached that creamy deliciousness I was looking for.
As far as white teas go I enjoyed White Petal by Steven Smith (which I had yesterday) much more than this tea. It just seemed to have more going on, especially with the addition of the floral elements.
