Magic Tea Witch
We lost Butiki and then A Quarter To Tea, both of which I’m still sore about. Anyone know who the new magic tea witch is? Someone who is able to make interesting and well pulled off blends and flavored teas?
I’ll never get over Butiki! A Quarter To Tea was also wonderful. Such losses! I’ve no idea - there are of course some good companies out there, but these ones were magical - almost like the teas weren’t flavoured after the fact, but just naturally came that way!
I’ve gone back to delicious straight teas and live for TTC. :) The flavoured teas I do have in my cupboard currently all come from Dammann Frères and I’m pretty happy with those.
Oh many, I so relate to this! I desperately miss my beloved Butiki blends (especially Hello Sweetie and Caramel Vanilla Assam…I’ve never found anything close to a suitable replacement for either) and am hoarding my last few precious AQTT teas. There are plenty of other companies making flavored tea blends I enjoy (e.g. TeaSource, Fava, 52Teas), but no one who seems to have that magic touch that Stacy and Lauren had.
I’ve been drinking a lot of Theodor (which does have some interesting blends) and Lupicia, but they differ from B and AQ2T. I can’t even put my finger on what made them so special and dear. I also miss periodically having new teas to look forward to trying and falling in love with. I keep hoping someone will pop up and fill in the tea void in my heart. :(….
Awwww I expected AQ2T to be back at some point. I thought it was just a break but now I see their website is gone. Of course, 52Teas has interesting blends. For flavoured tea, I am always impressed with Lupicia as well. Bird and Blend has a lot of unique blends if you live in the UK or if you don’t mind paying shipping.
I was hoping it was just a break as well, but things aren’t looking promising.
52Teas does have interesting blends, but they were very hit or miss for me. I ordered from B&B once, found that I don’t like their teas, but really enjoyed their tisanes. I’m waiting for Baby Spice to be back in season to place another order.
I feel like the most fickle tea drinker ever! I only really want what I can’t have anymore!
I am similar Dustin! I always long for ones I can no longer have! I’ve been hoarding the last of two Butikis for years now, and I just don’t know that I can bring myself to drink them because then they’ll be gone. But I should also drink them and enjoy them! Sigh.
I did that with Three Friends, holding onto it until the orange had faded out. Don’t let your favorites age into taste oblivion. I have a small collection of favorite discontinued teas that I keep in little plastic one serving containers from an advent calendar. I feel like I should use them to make an altar to lost tea love!
Interesting topic, but unfortunately don’t know the answer. For sure… Bird and Blend have interesting blends, but I am afraid they were nonewhere to Butiki (never tried :( ) Czech company Oxalis have lots of blends, but as I had few they were perfumey, but not much translated into taste. But haven’t got anything in years. If you want to try some, I can buy (I don’t know if they have international shipping). And for me… I should try them again :) At least they have translated the blends finally!
I’ve only tried Vicky’s Sponge Cake and Rhubarb & Custard from Bird & Blend many years ago (I checked my tea notes and it’s been 7 years – wow) when they first came out on the ‘scene’. Though I’ve had their webpage open for weeks now on my browser waiting to build a cart because I’ve been intrigued to try more.
It’s always neat to hear about tea companies local to other tea-lovers too. I’ve always wanted to order from a wee Danish company, but the shipping to Canada was frightening haha!
Oh Courney, we are on the same boat. I wanted to order something across the pond too. Tea itself was quite cheap. But the postage was like a nightmare. Let me know if you want anything from Oxalis and wasn’t translated well (I am going through English version and yes, sometimes it is not translated or wrong) or if shipping directly from them would be too steep for you. I believe I could send it cheaper in some envelope or small box (with post and not courier service).

There are a lot of small tea companies on Etsy, some with some pretty interesting blends. Perhaps our magic tea witch is hiding there?
I’ve been scanning them, but haven’t found any winners yet. Lauren was on there at one point, so it does give me some hope.
