sooo i have to say, i’m a little happy to see that the teafairy enjoyed this tea…which gives me hope that maybe the BBB ladies will also enjoy it. I opted to include this in the BBB this round along with another Darjeeling since i’m trying to expand my horizons and try new things. what better way to try things than to force other ppl to do it with you? haha this one was ok when it was hot, but as it cooled, it turned into something i didn’t want to drink. sooo ladies, i won’t be offended if you don’t like this! haha
I feel like a copycat but I have to echo TerriHarpLady and Sil – this is a decent, non-spectacular but good dian hong. Nothing to keep around, but nothing to turn down. Maybe a little lighter than some others.
Preparation
Another one from Sil! (241)
(Yes, I do have other teas, but right now 1/3 of them are from her….)
And so this is a nice Assam. It’s a little richer than I expected, almost like it’s begging for a little cream to tone it down. But bold is good. I could use more energy! (And this is my 4th cup of tea, followed after my coffee – maybe I’ll never have energy? Maybe I’m just drained by the idea of how much left there is to clean in the shop. It’s chaos. Rubber gloves and silicone and glue and paint sticks scattered on every surface! It’s Friday though…. friday…. And I have three weeks worth of cheques in my purse to cash!)
One of my fave things about North America: the sheer amaze of cheques. I have neither seen nor touched a cheque since 1987.
Haha. We get paid when our boss remembers to sign the cheques. :P So now that I work there I make sure everyone gives me there invoices at least once every two weeks, and then I can total everythign up, write out the chequesan stick it in his face so he can sign them. :P Of course if it’s urgent he’ll do it sooner, but he’s just not great at that sorta thing. (Good job security for me!)
And this is the first job I’ve had in 10+ years where I’ve had to deposit my own cheques. Seems like a lot of places do direct deposit, but because this is such a small business and we’re all essentially contractors, it’s just easier for my boss to do cheques. I guess. ;P
I think it’s so cool. I wish I got cheques for stuff, I really do. It makes me think of Melanie Griffith movies from the 80s and ‘She Works Hard for the Money’ and all of that. Haha. It’s such a grown-up thing, a cheque!
Hahah. It is! I can get that, but on the other hand you need to physically pick it up, and then physically take it to the bank and what if you lose it or you don’t have a car and you have to bus and it’s a pain in the butt? :P Actually I jsut saw an add for a mobile app that lets you take pictures of cheques with your phone to cash them – THAT’S AMAZING.
Anna…..it’s mostly a US thing….Canada cheque volumes are dropping at a significant rate, while in the us, they have actually gone up in some instances
Cavo…it’s called remote deposit capture and in Canada it’s a bit of a silly thing given how few chequers we have. That’s a huge thing in the US esp for businesses. An I understand it, it doesn’t eliminate the hold period in Canada, making it more gimmicky than it should be…..
Yes, I saw that app ad in the US this fall and was SO impressed! The future is here.
Siller, do you know why the cheque volumes have gone up in the US?
it fluctuates in the US, last time i had to look at the numbers ofr a project. Mostly, there hasn’t been a major push by the financial industry to stop accepting them…since it’s not federally regulated across the country. check 21 initiative helped but there’s still a ways to go before the US gets to volumes that other countries have…payment processing needs to fundamentally change first…there’s nothing like the european environment with sepa payments/wire payments etc… i remember being thoroughly confused when i had to learn about +1 day and +2 day…and how timing was really different from the way it works in canada haha
I need to read more about this. And I also need to find out if those personalized ones with pink unicorns and stuff are still a thing.
Crazy! I never knew all that!
And I can see the app being a little gimmicky/too good to be true. They don’t want to risk too much fraud, etc.
Pink unicorns! I can’t remember if we had anything silly like that to choose from. I just chose a basic cheque because I didn’t want to pay for it, and the ONLY time I ever write cheques are for rent and daycare so it didn’t seem worth it.
I received a sample of this one when i picked up a few teas from World of Tea when i was in ottawa. It’s not a tea i would have picked myself since i’m not a HUGE fan of oolongs but i’ll try anything! ;) This is overall a pleasant roasted oolong. I chose to brew this western style but it comes across as the sort of oolong that might be best tasted using a gaiwan. I’d call this your average middle of the road oolong..nothing to knock your socks off but still pleasant!
Once upon a time, we used to cherish a month called March. After a long and cold winter, we’d get all excited to see March arrive and bring along the promise that spring was well on its way.
Yes, spring, remember that? Used to be one of our four seasons…but nowadays, winter seems to be the only season left…On March 4th today, it’s freakin MINUS 20 CELSIUS!!!
Thank god I have this tea to remind me what spring season is like.
Mmmm, Darjeeling, with its fresh citrusy notes. A beautiful first flush this tea. Sweet but slightly astringent and very juicy. It’s what I call a sunny tea :-)
Thank you so much for sharing this “sunshine in a cup” with me Sil. Such a good pick me up on this cold winter day!
Haha it’s definitely coming in like a lion, I guess. It’s been raining constantly here, and on the cold(er) side. At least not -20!
I know what you mean… On the other hand I saw a Robin today, good thing my neighbourhood has lots of bird feeders!
Fjellrev, I’ll take rain, hell, I’m not that difficult, I’ll take anything over this freezing arctic weather! The thing is I love winter, but enough already!
Kat_Maria, I sure hope you’re wrong, lol!
Dexter, the forecast was WRONG today, they actually predicted a “comfortable” winter day. Yes, comfortable for polar bears…mmmaybe???
yyz, really? But what if Mrs. Robin just leaves and goes back south thinking she’s got her calendar all wrong?
strangely i haven’t logged this before now, though i have had it before. Overall this is a pretty average every day sort of tea. It’s nothing to knock my socks off but it’s nothing i’d turn down either. I really should try this gaiwan style though to see if that will coax anything else out of this one. hmmm…
Thanks to Sil for sharing this with me!
A really pretty tea, with pieces of what looks like pear and some orangish flower petals and other small flowers inside. Brewed up, it smells like pear, and has the taste of a very ripe pear… it reminds me of pear-picking on Salt Spring Island at the yoga centre, where we took oodles of pears, peeled them, and made pear-sauce out of half of them, juicing the rest in this huge hand-cranked contraption bolted to the back of a truck. Anyway. This reminds me of those pears – almost overripe, and very juicy.
I have to say that I wihs there was a better base here though, as I think this tea could really shine with something crisper.
Preparation
back log from yesterday still – had a cup of this in the evening. it’s more of a morning tea but it was enjoyable enough. It’s nothing i would restock but it’s nice to get a sense of the offerings from World of Tea since my parents are close to it, if there’s ever anything i need.
sipdown on this one. actually drank a coule cups of this one because i was just hitting the spot this afternoon. likely won’t be a restock as this isn’t my perfect pear tea but it is decent enough and tasty!
had a cup of this to work on getting through some of my smaller amounts of tea. An enjoyable cup of pear tea, though nothing to knock your socks off and write home about :)
sipdown! (180) my other morning tea while i run around panicked that i’ve forgotten something :) This morning this is malty with an edge to it that i don’t love. I don’t think i’d restock this tea even though it’s not a bad tea. just not one of my favourites. I’m happy to have been able to pick up a few teas from world of tea while in ottawa though and it looks like my dad has found it as well, since he bought be two more for christmas heh
I brought a bunch of teas with me to Tony’s this weekend, basically the whole box that Sil sent me recently. So I reached in & grabbed one, randomly. Here it is.
The name of this one implies a sweet & smokey lapsang type tea, at least in my mind, but this one is more savory, & a little bitter, at least to my taste today. To be fair, I don’t think my tastebuds are working right.
We’ve been out running around all day. We went to breakfast at our usual haunt, I usually enjoy my breakfast there, but they botched my order. I ate it anyway without complaining (& I’ll admit here that I am one of those nit picky people who usually makes them take it back & remake it).
The tea they serve is Numi Chinese Breakfast. Initially I didn’t mind it, but I feel like everytime I drink it, it gets more anemic, if you know what I mean. I’ve even tried using 2 bags. meh…
Thank god I’m home now! Thank god I brought the BBBBox with me, thank you Sil for saving my day!
Another busy day!!
This was my first tea of the day, one of Sil’s offerings in the BBBBox. I drank it, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I can’t really say what it was like, because that was hours ago! :)
Luckily there is enough for me to drink again, & hopefully have time to comment on.
Some days I’m in it for the tea. Other days I just want the hydration and/or caffeine. Those latter days, I often end up inhaling my tea and not remembering a thing about it.
Oh, I loved this tea! It acted as an anti-depressant on a cold spring day :-)
yes i’m glad you loved it…i’m hoping the ladies will too ’cause it was too much for me
