Well that’s it till tomorrow, Happy Halloween!
da da da da, da da da da, da da da da!
Thank you Sarsonator for this sample. This is a good tea but not the sort I usually drink. It is floral tasting with sweet notes. It is not bitter. I can get the notes of nuts, pine, and floral. The notes of butter are a little more subtle but seem to be there.
I brewed this tea once in a 18oz teapot with 2 tsp leaf and boiling water for 3 min.
Flavors: Floral, Nuts, Pine
Preparation
Happy first day of Autumn (or spring if you are in the other side of the world from me) everyone! This is my favorite season, by far, I love the leaves and crisp feeling in the air, the excuse to break out my fuzzy blankets and the way the world smells. It just makes me happy, doubly so this year because I will be back in the mountains during peak leaf season, though three months away from Ben and my cats is going to be rough.
I wanted to start the season off with a tea that makes me think of campfires and happy memories, so I chose S’mores! by Whispering Pines Tea Co. This tea is a blend of Fujian Black Tea, Pine Peaks Keemun, Ashes of Autumn Black Tea, Organic Cinnamon Pieces, and Organic Marshmallow Root, mad props for using marshmallow root, too few marshmallow themed things use the root of the mallow, which is sad because it is extremely tasty. The dry leaves smell like an autumn evening sitting next to a crackling fire while eating s’mores! There are notes of smoke, cinnamon, marshmallow sweetness, and a finish of rich cocoa. The leaves smell quite rich and not overwhelmingly sweet, just the way I like my desserts!
Giving the tea a nice steeping, I notice that the wet leaves have a really nice malt note that goes well with the cocoa, marshmallow, and cinnamon notes. The smoke is still there, but it no longer smells like I am sitting next to the campfire, clearly I have wandered off with my s’more. The liquid, oh my, that is very rich! Creamy chocolate, gentle cinnamon warmth, far away smoke, and marshmallow sweetness combine for a nose dance of epic yum. I may have moaned a bit while sniffing this tea, the cats looked at me like I was crazy, their loss.
OMG guys, this tea is too good! It hits that perfect balance of sweet and rich, warming and smoky, and oh so evocative. I can feel the warmth of the campfire from the cinnamon, the smoke of the fire from the Ashes of Autumn tea, and of course the rich cocoa notes and marshmallow root with a nice finish of malt. I like that it is not overly sweet, so it is good on its own or with a dessert as an extra rich treat. My favorite thing about this tea is how evocative it is, I love that it transports me to a place in my memories that makes me happy, really homesick, but happy. But wait, what about graham crackers? I admit the taste of the crackers is not really strong, the malt notes give the ‘essence’ so to speak of graham crackers, but it is not as clear as having the crackers. I am tempted to find some gluten free graham crackers to eat while sipping this tea for extra perfection.

Love this stuff so much that I dedicated an yixing pot to it. An excellencent green tea, though as mentioned in another review, it’s not as sweet as other mao fengs I’ve tried. I don’t mind though.
Preparation
Finishing up this tea this morning. Still very fruity, unexpectedly so. I think this morning I did get some more malty notes from this, which helped balance out the fruitiness for me. All and all, tasty, but not really my style. Thanks again for the sample, Cameron!
Preparation
Thanks once again to Cameron B. for this sample! I’m not huge on Keemuns mostly because of the kind of smoky note that they can have with them; I am very sensative to smoky notes. However, I requested this one because I wanted to try it out anyway, and it’s been a while since I’ve had a keemun.
This definitely has no smoky notes that I can detect. So yay! It is incredibly fruity, way fruitier than I was expecting. Plums for sure, and raisins. Definitely some underlying grains and malt, and a little honey. Chocolate? No, not really. Just a very fruity black tea. I’m not the biggest fan of those fruity notes in my black teas, but it is still a tasty cup. Very smooth, no bitterness or astringency. If you enjoy the fruitiness of some Taiwanese black teas I definitely recommend trying this one.
Flavors: Honey, Malt, Plums, Raisins
Preparation
Picked this out this morning. I am getting the cocoa, burnt sugar, and even detect (I think) the grapes notes. This is an excellent tea. There is also a lot of malt in this tea. Luckily it is not tasting too malty for me this morning. This is a tea I might eventually buy more of but am undecided.
I brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with 3 tsp leaf and boiling water for 3 min.
Flavors: Burnt Sugar, Cocoa, Grapes, Malt
Preparation
This tea is good but very malty. I taste a variety of complex notes including malt, burnt sugar, cocoa, and caramel. I am afraid I don’t notice the whole list. It is very good but a little too malty for my taste. By malt I don’t mean chocolate malt.

And the Whispering Pines black-tea-a-thon continues on. I love Fujian black teas, so I am excited to try this one (even though I feel like “Fujian Black” is kind of a generic term?). Thanks again to Cameron B. for sending these samples on!
First off, the brewed tea smells pitch-perfect for a delicious Fujian. Like cacao nibs and roasted, molasses-covered grains. The flavor is quite good. Deifnitely chocolatey in a roasted, unprocessed cacao nib way, with lots of toasty grain flavors and malt. It has a thick, bready texture that is quite nice as well.
Overall quite tasty! I definitely enjoyed my cup this morning.
Flavors: Baked Bread, Cacao, Grain, Toast
Preparation
I like the mix of elderberry and cinnamon in this tea. It’s warm, comforting, and incredibly soothing. Everything a good herbal tea should be.
Thank you, kimquat, for adding this to our swap! I’ll be picking up more of this once the cold weather rolls in.

That sounds like something a mountain granny would serve her young’uns, doesn’t it? (off to locate the cinnamon sticks)
I drank this tea two days ago but am just now getting around to noting that I had it thanks to Steepster’s craziness.
Thanks to Cameron B. for a sample of this tea! I will definitely have to write a better note the next time I have it. For now I will just say that to me this tasted a lot like a Taiwanese black tea. But as far as I can tell this is a mainland tea? It has those fruity notes with a touch of honey. Of course there is that odd fruity character that is present in Taiwanese blacks that isn’t my favorite note, but this was a pretty tasty cup of tea anyway.
I’m not a really big fan of chai tea but that’s not to say I don’t like them. This one seemed intriguing, Bi-Luo Chun Black with vanilla beans and chai spices? I love green bi-luo chun and love vanilla and was curious to try this out. As everyone has said the spices in this tea are done perfectly. A wonderful chai spice mixed with the creaminess an sweetness of the tea. Then there’s the vanilla adding a sweetness too. Yummy! However, this has now got me curious. I wonder how plain bi-luo chun black tastes?
Flavors: Butter, Cardamon, Ginger, Vanilla
Preparation
I had a couple cups of this tea this morning. I love mao jian tea and I love jasmine but wasn’t sure the combo would work. I thought the jasmine might overpower mao jian which is perfect on it’s own. I needn’t have worried. The jasmine was so light. A barely there jasmine giving it a jasmine scent but not overpowering in taste. A very nice cup.
It went well with the heavy rains this morning and my book I’ve been reading “The Dalai Lama’s Cat.” What a fun book and there’s lots of wisdom in it too.
Flavors: Butter, Jasmine, Nutty, Sweet

dropping the rating on this one a little because while it’s still delicious and tasty, i’m finding it’s just not a good tea for the travel mug. Not that it’s the teas fault, but i drink 80% of my tea that way, so i like to have options that work well for both travel mugs and my home mugs :)
I’m still a fan of this tea. As a result, i totally took 3 straight teas to work with me because these straight teas have lots of flavour! I like that this isn’t the usual type of keemun that i usually have. instead this is almost more of a sweet tea versus a little smokey. noms!
mmmmm thanks for sharing this one with me terri. I really enjoyed this one from WP. It’s a different sort of keemun than the ones i generally prefer..less malty, more chocolatey. this will be picked up :)
I do? From the terri-tea-pocalypse? :O
Thank you! I really need to start ordering again so that I have SOMETHING to send in return!
Still a nope for me. I’d hoped the new version would work because I love this tea…in theory.in execution it’s just doesn’t work for me. It’s like there’s a note in it that always plays out of tune for the rest of the brew. Thanks for letting me try this one again*missb* via omgsrsly :)

Hahaha, Tommy, you are so high ;)
fa shou!
