What-Cha

150 ml gaiwan, 205F, 5gish.
This was a very complex tasting tea. I wasn’t sure what to think about the tea at first. Steeps 1-3 were very different from each other. 10s- floral, smooth and minerally sharp. 20s- mineral, roasted, green and sweet. 30 and 40s main note was sweet and mineral.
I continued drinking this tea for a while. I enjoyed drinking it. 85

Only about 10 more teas to go from What-cha. I might have gone overboard on my order, all the teas I’ve tried have been good. Most very good.

165F, 5gish, 150ml gaiwan
I think this is the actual sample I was sent as I don’t order green teas for myself. Dry leaf smells nutty and green. 10s- nutty, sweet 20s- nutty, almost roasted, lingering sweetness I stayed with the flash steeps as I usually don’t like green tea brewed for longer. I was surprised by the flavor and how much of it there was. If I were to stock a green tea, this would probably be it. 83

Sipdown from earlier this month. I enjoyed this tea – chocolate’s always a good choice ;)

Sipdown. I need to bump my rating up a little to 80. Brewing westren, I had a more enjoyable cup. Taste was helped by not trying to do all my What-cha samples at once. Re not overdosing on chocolate and malty teas.

I got 4 steeps out of 2 tsp @1,2,3,and 4 min. Pretty strong cocoa/dark chocolate -ish taste throughout. I’d like to get this tea again for regular mornings. Solid tea, right price (more What-cha samples! ;D).

7Apr- Still powering through my What-cha teas. I got a lot of samples. 192F 5gish, 150ml gaiwan
Dry leaf smells of malt, fruit, almost cherry. 7 steeps: 10s to 1min30s. Pretty much smooth dark chocolate throughout . It was a little one note for me. A chocolate one note…I just wanted a little something else. 78

The white tea that looks like a black tea. I’m far past the best use date for this tea (it’s from 2014), but it’s aged well.

I got at least one or two more steeps from this and the taste was consistent throughout.

4 apr- I really like this tea. Flavors of caramel, honey, and malt. Smooth. Lingering sweet caramel aftertaste.
I steeped this 7 times in 150ml gaiwan at 175F. I probably could have gotten a few more steeps from the leaves, but I ran out of hot water. I did cold steep them and it was good. 92
I started out this day with a caramel tasting tea that was good but not what I was looking for and ended the day with a caramel tasting tea that was the bomb.

Gentle cinnamon smell to dry leaf. Not an overpowering in your face cinnamon.

I liked this tea better during the shorter steeps. It did have a lingering cinnamon aftertaste. Like long after. Need to try this westren.

Sipdown – Tastes like sticky rice. Sweet, rice, starch, thick. True to its name, but not my thing.

172F, 5gish, 150 ml gaiwan
It really tastes like sweet sticky rice. Tastes stays throughout multiple steeps. Definitely an interesting tea, but not really for me. Glad to have tried it.

4Apr- Bought this looking for a replacement for my black dragon pearls from Teavana. Those pearls are getting old and I’m looking for a similar flavor profile, but better quality tea.

Thought I’d try this one even though notes said caramel not chocolate. 2 pearls, 150ml gaiwan, 205F
I got caramel and malt through all 4 steeps. I need to try this with more pearls. I’m not sure that this is the flavor profile I’m looking for. Wonder what it’d taste like if I mixed them together? May have to try this.

Dry leaf smells creamy and fruity. 188F 5g ish 150ml gaiwan.

10s- fruity, creamy, thick. 20, 30, 40s – mango-y, thick and creamy. The taste lingers after finishing for several minutes. I liked it. 83

A Good Day so far :)
Got some teas in the mail and Sitting outside with my baby girl listening to Art Bell’s Dark Matter recorded from October 2013 having a good time and I’m getting a new Phone later this evening Yay!!,so yeah a pretty good day.
This one is delicious, roasty and earthy kinda with slight sweetness at the front and a lingering woodsy aftertaste.
It was reminding me slightly of another tea that I couldnt put my finger on(i was thinking da hong pao), not really sure. I didn’t get a mineral note until after I had read the description, then I tasted it and yeah, a mineral kinda rocky note like dhp or something to me.
I didn’t really get the “fruit” note but there still something else that I can’t put my finger on and its almost fruity but kinda nutty too.
This is a super good tea My first tea from What-Cha, I’ve been wanting to try What-Cha for a while now, very glad to have a chance to try this one, I can’t wait till I’m able to place an order from them, This one is on my wishlist now.

Fruity/nutty like maybe a Nutty Appley note, not sure.

This is my favorite green tea. I could drink it everyday but I like to save it for a treat.

I have brewed western and gong-fu, both work great.

When the water hits the leaves you can smell the beautiful sweet corn aroma.

After a 15 second steep (optional with western) the tea tastes very mildly of sweet caramel. After a 30 second steep it then tastes more richly of sweet corn, with a mild grass hint. The tea feels smooth and thick in the mouth. For the next couple of steeps the grass taste gets stronger but it’s not overly grassy like freshly cut grass, more of a warm green tea flavour. As you continue to steep, the grass flavour diminishes and you are left with that beautiful sweet candy corn flavour once more.

Thanks for these in the sale, Ost! I always like to try all the pearls. These ones are very light in flavor, even while using four for a full mug. Once unraveled, the leaves look fairly large and fill almost half the brew basket. Though light, the flavor is complex and delicious: slight hints of molasses, chocolate, honey, maple, caramel, tobacco in this light amber brew. Pretty darn good flavors right there. The second cup was deeper in flavor. It wasn’t astringent at all, but it seemed to lose some of the distinct characteristics of the first steep. It was mostly chocolate this time around. I’m not sure how I like these compared to other pearls. The first cup was unique but light, the second cup a lot more like the usual pearl flavor.

Sipdown. Taste of this tea is nutty and fruity. Flavors have come through strongly every time I’ve brewed this tea. It resteeps well. Hazelnut and mango. Just not a tea I’m into.

I brewed this tea with cooler water than stated at 160F. 150ml gaiwan, 5g ish.
Dry leaf smells sweet and roasted, a little nutty.
Wet leaf smell reminds me of toasted rice.
10s first steep tastes of toasted rice and mango. This is repeated with the only other two steeps I did. I did not continue with this tea.
Very different tasting tea. Taste is very distinct, I don’t know if I like it. Pretty sure it’s not something I’ll order again.

I’m really sad that my sample is gone. This is a must replace for me. Super fruity and yummy. Just lovely. 95

Dry- fruit, stone fruits. Taste- fruity, smooth, and malty on later steeps. I liked this tea a lot. It could have gone a few more steeps, but I needed to move on to some other teas. 88

Wet leaf smells sweet, maybe white grapes. This fruity thing I can’t find the right words for. I steeped this 7 times. Steeps started out as juicy and smooth. Then sweet and fruity. 1 min steeps were sweet, juicy, fruity, and slightly floral. 93

I really enjoyed this tea. When I’ve reduced my stash to something more manageable, I’ll need to pick up more of this.

Sipdown. I apparently took no notes on this tea for the second infusion. I think I used the gaiwan because of time recorded. I guess I didn’t like it the 2nd time either.
