(DECAF)
I tried one of these decaf teabags last week (steeped about 5 min, added a spoonful of half&half) and found it undrinkable. It was cardboardy, bitter, and thin, despite the milk/cream.
Today, at 3 min, with an oz of Bailey’s added, it’s divine!
Serve with 2 sugar cookies and try to forget that the workweek is only 3/5 over and next week will be worse…
Preparation
I usually drink this bagged tea only in decaf, but today called for caf, so I yoinked a bag from my hubby’s stash. (I don’t know how he brews it for 5 min – after 3 it was looking plenty dark enough for me! Then again, he’s a coffee drinker and I am not.)
It was very good with raw sugar and a splash of milk. It definitely has that “chewy,” malty that makes it almost a meal in and of iteself. Very good with outmeal raisin cookies too, btw.
Preparation
I’m also an ex-coffee drinker and I usually brew this for at least 12-15 minutes. Of course I add milk and sugar because otherwise it is a quite bitter.
Maybe because this is one of the first teas I ever tried and enjoyed, but I really love this tea. Malty, smooth, consistently good. It’s not so delicious as to make you re-think your life, but I’ve always gotten enjoyment from it.
Preparation
yes I agree this is one of my (when I’m sick teas) it’s much easier to do this then trying to make your own when sick. the notes of ginger are stronger the longer you steep and i did add a lemon slice to make the lemon stronger. I guess i made it stronger that way but oh well.XD and when i’m sick i make my water a little hotter for some odd reason.
Preparation
this I if in the bag do not let it steep too long the bitterness can get to u and do not squeeze the bag as i have seen others do, this can cause the bitterness to be more predominant. but as i have said in other notes that i like to not steep the tea as much unless it is loose leaf then it’s done by color for me depending of the type of tea. but each person has there own way. i do prefer the loose leaf less bitterness hugs* it’s still a wonderful tea.
Preparation
I seldom drink black tea, but husband was having English Breakfast this morning so I did, too. It was steeped a liiittle too long, so was bitter. But at the top of the cup it was decent. I will give black tea another try.
Tea bag. Drank black. My low rating is mostly due to my tastes (not liking black) and the bitterness.
Preparation
This was my first homemade Iced Tea.
I forgot to put sugar in the Tea, before I poured it over the ice cubes.
So I poured some hot water in another glass, and let the brown sugar melt in it.
Then I took the sugar water and poured it in the Iced Tea.
The taste was very bitter, I think I should have taken the Tea Bag up sooner.
I also tried to give the taste a little kick, with some lemon juice.
In the end, it tasted okay, but not as good as I wanted it to be.
Ingredients:
Water (about 0,33 cl.)
Twinings – English Breakfast (Tea Bag)
Ice Cubes
Lemon Juice
Brown Sugar
I think I will try this again soon, but with less steep time.
Preparation
This is just my two-cents, so feel free to disregard this advice. I’ve found that the best iced teas are cold brewed. So put the tea bags or leaf into a pitcher of cold water in the fridge for 12-24 hours. If you want sweetener, do exactly as you did with the hot water/sugar mixture and pour into the tea. I’ve found that with cold brewing, the tea doesn’t get bitter just flavorful. Good luck.
This is the first non-earl grey tea ive tried and i was pleasantly surprised. It features the balanced flavour Ive grown accustomed to in Twinings. It offers a medium yet full bodied taste. I think this tea is a great morning tea as many here have stated. It would do well on the go with a bagel or a full breakfast as opposed to coffee. But could also be enjoyed in the evening after a long days work.
Backlogging from Vacation:
I finished up the last two bags of this last week. It didn’t take me that long and my dad even got to tease me about me “going English” by “taking my tea with milk”. My parents don’t get my tea love affair but they are glad that I’m not doing any drugs. This just means that I don’t have to share my teas with them if I don’t want to.
I went and had dinner at my fiancee’s house and then hit the jacuzzi. By the time I got back home it was too late to heat water in the kettle and I didn’t really want to microwave water for the last two bags of my Earl Grey-a-thon. I’m just finishing it up today.
I really do like this plain. It isn’t as harsh as compared to Biglow or Numi’s old version of Earl Grey, but the bergamot citrus just pops with that splash of milk. It gets bright and just stands up and says “Hi!” in a perky voice. (Yes, my tea does talk to me sometimes. I think most tea drinkers have that problem at some point of time.) It just makes me happy, especially in the morning.
I found a recipe for Earl Grey lemonade and it made me curious. It has been very hot here recently and I have been drinking a fair amount of half-tea, half-lemonade that my fiance’s mother has started to buy. The recipe was basically the half-tea and half-lemonade with the tea part being Earl Grey.
I made a strong cup (1 bag steeped for 10 minutes) and poured in some lemonade I made yesterday for Memorial Day. It was about 3/4 Earl Grey and 1/4 lemonade. At first it was a yummy mix with a splash of bergamot mixing with the lemons. Then it kept getting tarter and tarter.
So I drank it down and put in enough lemonade to bring the mix to 1/2 Earl Grey and 1/2 lemonade. Then I put in a spoonful of sugar and mixed it well. The color now looks closer to the half-and-half store-bought mix. Now it is yummy with a splash of that bergamot at the end. The sugar made it sweeter, but I think it toned down the tartness too much. But I think that you would want an equal 1/2 and 1/2 mix for this Earl Grey Lemonade.
I might have to make a bigger bottle of this the next time we make lemonade. I really like it, but I don’t think my family will enjoy it as much. So I will have to make two bottles of lemonade. I think this is a very nice way to enjoy Earl Grey on a hot summer day.
I wonder if it would work well with different tea blends? It is a good thing that I might have to experiment because it is supposed to be very hot this summer. I just have to make sure that we have a fresh supply of lemons to keep the house stocked with lemonade because I don’t like using the lemon juice in the bottle. That makes the lemonade taste chemically and fake.
Edit: I think I was jumping to conclusions about the sugar. It has been sitting for a while and now the bergamot is jumping up and down again playing with that sugar. Balance has never tasted so yummy!
Another morning that began with some earl grey with milk. I found a lot of recipies for cooking with the Earl and I might try them out. It feels like a cookie or a cupcake day today.
I gave some Lady Grey bags to our resident cookie lady at work. She made cookies and the results were less than spectacular. If you have worthwhile success pm a recipe.
