Sample Saturday Continues It is nice to have a straight Pouchong! This tastes almost exactly like Coconut Pouchong by Golden Moon Tea less the coconut!
I think these are the only two Pouchongs I have tasted. Maybe. Heck I don’t know I’m just trying not to fall asleep so I can go to sleep at a decent time tonight BEFORE my second wind hits me and keeps me up till 4am!
This is a slightly astringent tea – but I did steep the full 5 minutes – maybe I could have went with 4 and not have the astringency.
I have this as a sample I ordered from The Persimmon Tree which is very nice you can get 1.00 samples with free shipping! WOOT!
The floral notes come through strong – a definite jasmine taste.
A very good tea at a pretty fair price!
I think all of the Persimmon Tree teas are on a discount now but a little bird told me that starting June 1st there will be an iced tea sale! :)

I am really enjoying the two genmaicha’s I’ve tried. This one is more mild than the one from Den’s Tea, but equally enjoyable.

Alphakitty thanks for this one!

I do like this!

The Guava goes with the white tea base beautifully! It’s just the right amount of Guava! Nice, light, delicate YET fruity, and near tropical! The strawberry notes are lovely, too!

Alphakitty

Yay, glad you like it!

Thank you Alphakitty! I think rooibos was an excellent choice as the base. It works well with the other flavors. I’m catching light notes of chocolate and banana. It’s not super strong in both flavors but it’s just enough to make it delicious. It makes me think of banana creamies. It’s sweet and has a lovely creamy note to it. I really enjoyed this blend :) thanks again!

Alphakitty

So glad you like this one, banana is not really my thing so I wanted to find a better home for it ^^

I was sitting on the porch enjoying a beautiful day when the need for a hot cup of tea hit me. I am so loaded up on iced tea that I slosh but when the mood hits… Read any of my other 17 notes on this one and you’ll read “my favorite from The Persimmon Tree” in about all of them. Since TPT is gone, it sadly makes this one a little more precious. I’m trying not to hoard it as what good is stale tea. I used 180 f water and a 4 minute steep. Creamy vanilla – more so than I remembered – and gentle anise, along with lovely floral notes. Then there is that Vietnamese green tea. Yep, still one of my all time favorites. Right up there with Earl Grey, jasmine dragon pearls, golden monkey, and anything Yunnan.

Helena

We mourn the loss of another tea company.

Fjellrev

Oh wow, I didn’t even know that they’re gone now. :(

Today is another mandatory sip what I really want tea day. I think I may have reached near saturation point on try every tea. So this one has been a favorite for a few years now. Of course the Persimmon Tree is currently on hiatus with no clue if or when they will be back. So I have been holding this one back. Can’t even explain why I love this. I think it is because it is so unusual. It isn’t really a floral tea, even if it is, and the green base has such a strong presence that I find comforting. I have two ounces and then I have to find a new source. I think What-Cha has this or a very similar tea.

Last of the tin. I’d be sad but I have another unopened one already waiting. So good. I added a little sweetener today, because I can, it was a good choice. Sweet, creamy, a little peppery, a little floral and anise, along with a wonderfully different green tea.

I just went to The Persimmon Tree website – there is almost nothing there! Are they closing down or retooling? It would be a shame to loose them. So maybe I am sad.

I have had way too many things going on lately. The one most related to tea is our plumbing issues. We have hard water. If there is a death metal version of hard water, ours is possibly worse. Every few years we have a new water heater brought in. That’s common in hard water around here. Worse our cold water lines are even slowing down because of lime build up. We have replaced the toilet flush thingy 3 times this year because it gets limed up. So, against our desires we had a water softener added to the whole house when the water heater was replaced on Friday. I have been holding off on tea until I get adjusted to the new normal. I was afraid the water would taste salty, or metallic. It doesn’t. I could tell an immediate difference in the feel. So today was a trial run with a tea I like to see how it affects the taste. I ran the water through a charcoal filter first. It feels lighter and slightly brighter but nothing seems out of place. Hopefully the softener takes care of the problems. Glad to see it didn’t ruin tea, and hoping less chunky water brings out new taste notes.

This is one of my favorites because it is so different from everything else.

I am sitting with a cup of this saying goodbye to Leonard Nimoy. Truly one of the biggest influences of my childhood. If it hadn’t been for algebra, which I could not grasp, I wanted to become an astronomer or work for NASA. Instead, I settled for playing Kerbal Space Program and watching old reruns of Star Trek TOS. It’s NCC-1701 for me. No bloody A, B, C, or D! I don’t know about Mr. Nimoy, but I feel certain Mr. Spock would have enjoyed this tea – or will in a couple centuries. Que spacey music.

I see the bottom of the tin. This must eventually be replaced. It is so very good. Solid Vietnamese green tea base, scented with lotus blossoms.

Miss Starfish

I call this “hitting pan” (phrase started in regards to using up eyeshadows), and it is a much celebrated/much mourned event in our house haha

The leaf is getting kind of ancient, but it is still so very good. I will need to replace this very soon. Not flowery floral. It is amazing floral with the green tea taking it to unique places. Hands down my favorite from The Persimmon Tree.

Enjoying this tonight. You can read my other notes on this one. As of 3 PM my Teavivre package is in Indianapolis! Woot! Let’s see how long it takes it to make it to my house. I am guessing Tuesday.

After reading Angrboda’s review of Lotus Puerh, and knowing I had some in transit, all I could think of was I want my Lotus. I want it now. So I put the Yixing aside and grabbed the press for a solid blast of this floral green. Unlike any other tea I’ve had. Whereas Tazo’s decaf lotus is a polite, lovely, and proper cup of lightly flowery tea, this is its punk twin. It is a lot louder and far more vocal. The green base is Vietnamese. I have never had a straight Vietnamese green before but I am certain it is largely responsible for the uniqueness of this scented tea. The lotus combines to produce an almost anise like flavor that really appeals to me. The base does no get lost and comes back in at the end. Just what I was craving this cloudy afternoon.

This is my favorite tea from The Persimmon Tree. The other reviews run the full range from hate it to love it and all points in between. The base green is a strong vegetal tea bordering on bitter but it is the good kind. The lotus is light. Mixing with the green base it takes on anise and vanilla notes. Unlike anything else I’ve had. Nothing like Tazo Lotus which is decaf bagged with a wimpy green base. That one is a lovely simple floral tea. This one is full bodied and complex with the base standing along side the floral. Love.

K S

I just read through my log on this tea. I amused myself. I think I have seven reviews and they are all a scrambling of the same ideas. Sounds like I haven’t changed my opinion in the last year at all.(cute thumbs up emoticon would go here if I knew how)

gmathis

Funny…I notice that about some of mine (twelve ways to say the same thing), and on others I’m all over the map. Consistent I ain’t.

K S

Its all about how you feel at the time.

This is my favorite tea from The Persimmon Tree. If you have had the nice little decaf version from Tazo – this is nothing like that. Tazo is a light delicate little flowery tea. This one is bold and rich. The tea base is Vietnamese green tea which along with the lotus scent creates a star anise boldness with velvety vanilla and nutty undertones along with vegetal notes. It is just so good. It is more than making up for my earlier morning cups of meh.

Haven’t had this in a while. It is so good. When I reach the bottom of the tin this is a definite reorder. Unlike anything else I have. All other lotus teas I’ve tried (the main being Tazo) are flowery. They are nice enough. This is altogether different. The green base is strong enough that it takes the lotus and produces a kind licorice/anise taste. I know a lot of hate both but this is so very very good.

huh, curious now.

Absolutely my favorite from The Persimmon Tree. Tastes nothing like Tazo Lotus and I am ok with that even though it is one of the few I like from Tazo. Beautiful golden color. The base is sweet and green and the lotus is creamy spicy fruity anise. My happy cup for the day.

This morning my wife asked if I wanted to drive her to Ben Franklin. That may be a regional store, so it is like an old time small town general store – crafts to plumbing, it’s all there. Anyway, it was a beautiful morning in the low 70’s so I ask her to wait five minutes. I reused yesterday’s leaf and poured the tea into my ceramic travel mug. While she shopped for sewing items I sat in the car and sipped tea in the sunshine. I think I got the better deal. This is delicious.

KeenTeaThyme

You still have Ben Franklins?! I used to shop there all the time when I was growing up. The two local shops have since closed. Gone the way of MJDesigns!

gmathis

Loved ’em!

Janefan

I used to go to Ben Franklin’s as a child in MD. And, my first job was at MJ Designs. I’m not very “crafty” but I love people who are! :-)

K S

We are so red neck backwoods, they never got around to closing our store. No one buys much at one time but almost everyone packs a little something out. I love small town america – except for the whole you can’t buy tea within a two hour drive.

mrmopar

Love Ben Franklin’s, wish we still had one.

While those of you who are slaves to your jobs were busy making someone else rich, the idle jobless among you went fishing. What a perfect day for it. Lots of birds and frogs chattering all around us. Great day. There was a Lilly pad in bloom. I kept looking at it thinking Mmmm Lotus. So here I sit with a mug. I am not sure what kind of green tea this is but I love it. Green, vegetal, and buttery. The lotus is hard to describe but excellent. It is kind of anise, kind of. It is just so good. I have been hoarding this one to make it last as long as possible. I can see this one being a staple when I feel safe in ordering again.

Stephanie

I’m very much a fishing novice but I renewed my license this week so we can go fishing this weekend! Did you catch anything?

K S

Oh, you noticed I didn’t mention catching anything. Well, I caught bait. My wife pulled in a really nice catfish and a couple keeper bluegill.

Stephanie

Nice! :D

gmathis

Retirement never sounded so good. In theory, I could finish my public school years in 2015. In reality, they’ll be hauling my dry bones out of there on a gurney…

K S

g that’s what I thought. I will be glad when things are a little more stable but I don’t miss it at all.

The house is 72. The humidity is low. The storms for now are far to the North. And I have an awesome cup of tea.

This is my favorite from The Persimmon Tree. Everything about this appeals to me. The base is a really solid green. The lotus is not floral. It is more spice like. I have needed this all day!

So unlike any lotus tea I have tried before. I called it black jelly beans when I first tried it. That isn’t really accurate but I don’t know what to call it – except yummy. It is kind of licorice and kind of floral. The green base, that is grey-ish looking more than the brown of the picture, is creamy and quite good. The flavor isn’t subtle like some of the teas I have had of late (Nina’s) but isn’t Grrrr in your face either. So different and I really like it.
