I finally found a need for this tea. I pur based it for 7 dollars when Teaopia closed. So after the soothing effect of my other tea ran out I brewed this one up. The dry notes smell mostly of spices, I feel like i should be cooking with this instead of steeping it. I added some honey to it to help with all the symptoms i am feeling right now.
It really isn’t a great tasting tea, it actually kind of tastes like crap, but the name doesn’t lie it is definitely soothing my sore scratchy throat. I won’t give it a numerical rating based on taste, but for affect it gets 100!
Preparation
This is my staple tea. It’s amazing what the addition of cream flavor will do. It’s smoother than regular Earl Grey, has a great aroma, and is great with milk or without.
I usually don’t bother taking the steeping ball out of the tea, but have started doing so. It’s almost a shame I can’t do multiple infusions but that’s why I buy this tea in bulk!
Preparation
I’m going to have to try this cold brewed with the rest of the bag!
I’m playing way too much SongPop on Facebook. I would go play on my phone but the sound is so low I can’t get anything right. I am destroying my competition in everything but “modern country” which I think two people have figured out they should choose in order to win against me, as I mute the sound and pick what they pick.
Because of this, I am also thinking a lot about “Strawberry Fields Forever” as I drink this. It used to be my favorite song! Every month or so, a local pizza place had some kind of appreciation night for my school and they had those little tableside juke boxes that played for the whole restaurant. Every time, I had to have “Strawberry Fields Forever” play. Didn’t care that it was The Beatles at the time, just liked it because I liked strawberries a lot.
This reminds me a bit of strawberry jello. It’s very strawberry but there’s just something in the background that one second makes me think jello and the next makes me think of cake.
Good thing I picked up some lovely strawberries today (thank you California for your neverending supply of them) because now I need some actual berries thanks to this tea.
Thanks, Kittenna!
I’m visiting my in-laws (I’ve got the greatest in-laws ever!) and my mother-in-law is in love with this tea, so I thought I’d give it a try.
The colour steeped is so beautiful. It’s a deep pink colour that actually reminds me of the Kanpe tea colour when steeped. Taste was tart but also a lovely fruity taste. I really enjoyed this tea. I’d probably have it again.
My mum-in-law has hugely stocked up on this one. I’m glad she loves it so much!
I made a cuppa this last night. Normally I don’t write “second” tasting notes but… well I normally don’t add milk to a fruity rooibos. For some reason I was feeling it, so I did and ohhhhh my goodness. Candy!! of course I added some agave, but not too much. Just what I was looking for. Dang! Made me happy :P
I told myself I wouldn’t buy anymore tea… but this was on sale 75% off!! how could I resist?!
so I made a big batch to ice, and it was pretty dang good. Heavy on the rooibos and light on the flavouring but I was really in the mood for it. Yummmm!
The scent reminds me of grapefruit, but I suppose that is the combo of orange, lime and lemongrass? Either way, I’m looking forward to drinking down my big pitcher tomorrow.
Rating: 85
Pumpkin was the wrong name for this tea. It really should have been called Autumn Spice or Autumn Medley. It isn’t reminiscent of pumpkin at all, the papaya is too strong. If you were expecting pumpkin you will be disappointed, but if you were looking for a nice fall flavoured tea, this is really nice.
Herbal tea koolaid! That is definitely what this tastes like. I made it hot and then iced it, and I made sure to add sugar given the hibiscus and rosehips. Still pretty tart, but since I’m not with any other kind of sweetener right now, it’ll have to do this way.
I like rose so the rosehips’ floral quality in here isn’t too bothersome. But it does taste more like I’m drinking a rosehip/hibiscus tea first and foremost with some cherry notes to it rather than something meant to be cherry flavored.
On the plus side, it doesn’t taste like cough syrup. I’d take this over cough syrup any day of the week. It’s actually quite tolerable for me for being based on hibiscus.
Thanks, Kittenna for the sample!
I’ve been drinking but not had time to log. :( I had a few teas that TeaEqualsBliss was kind enough to send me. They were tasty but I’ve forgotten why so I’ll log those when I have them again.
This tea though, I had it yesterday and I still remember it very clearly. It left an impression. :) not really a good one. To be honest, it tastes completely inoffensive. I couldn’t describe what I didn’t like about it. All I can say is that it reminds me of bitter melon even though it’s not really all that bitter. It’s slightly cooling. This cooling bitterness is much prized by the Chinese as medicinal quality in foods and drinks so I’ve had plenty of such flavors forced on me growing up. I think my dad would love this as a fan of bitter melon, but it’s not for me.
I gave the rest of this to a friend who enjoyed it. It’s was definitely an interesting experience for me as well. Thank you Kittenna!
Hummm maybe I should have only did 8 oz like Kittenna…..this is a little weak but I sure can tell there are yummy flavors there wanting to come through! Slightly sweet which is nice but not really getting too much of the lovely vegetal only SLIGHTLY – I may re-steep this in 8 oz and see how it comes out.
Oh – I thought it was one ball for 8 oz. water, and it was plenty strong that way. It definitely re-steeped ok though! I found it rather vegetal (but different than tea), and sweet.
Well its weird the description does say 24 ounces to 1 ball but maybe that was a mistake. I think it did better when I re-steeped it using 16 ounces of water.
Why, whyyy can’t green tea be more simple to prepare for clumsy, lazy people like myself? I like the flavour of green tea but not so much when it tastes bitter and/or burnt. Yuck.
This one came included with a gorgeous little tea set that my girlfriend got me from Teaopia for our anniversary. She knows me too well! We’ve been enjoying the little ritual of sharing a pot of tea on the weekends and I love it. And somehow delicious tea somehow tastes even better when drinking it from the little matching cups :P
But anyways, this tea. I’ve been hearing a lot about cold steeping, and it seemed pretty foolproof to me. So I got a nice tall glass, filled it with water and added a little t-sac of this to steep overnight. Next morning it looked pretty green, so I gave it a try. Blech!! It was really bitter :( maybe I just left it too long? Who knows..but I couldn’t finish the cup. If it weren’t for the bitterness it would have been really nice. The fruity flavours were prominent and refreshing but I just couldn’t get past the pucker-inducing yuck of the bitterness.
I’m going to try cold steeping again, but probably with an herbal or rooibos. Or maybe if I try it with a green again but just reduce the steep time? I really had high hopes for this method since it seemed like it would take the finicky-ness out of making green iced tea but alas, I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.
Neat! A white… that tastes like a darjeeling/oolong!
It’s got a musky sort of drying finish, with the depth of an oolong and the crispness of a white. Amazing!! I’m not quite in love though… more like enchanted :)
Now the question is, do I buy a whole bunch before Teaopia dies? even though I have SO much in my cupboard as it is?
It resteeped well enough, but the profile didn’t change at all.. not even in the weakness/strength. Perhaps I’d get more notes using a Gawain?
Regardless, this is certainly a quality tea. Very smooth, very little astringency… and unique! Apparently, they added an extra step to the “white” processing, by bruising the leaves of Bai Mu Dan.
i love all things coconut & the smell of this tea had me at hello; however, the taste is not that interesting. the label promises all kinds of fine treats: almonds, chocolate, yada yada, but i fear these delectables are in the tea blurber’s head because they certainly don’t show up in the tea. even at a fairly low temp for green tea, this was still quite bitter & needed honey, more than a dollup. this is a blah tea. very disappointing. don’t believe Teapia when they tell you they’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts, at least not for this tea.
Aaaaand, it also makes an awesome syrup for cheesecake! It’s more watery than I expected, and very sweet. But then, very sweet is how I like it. The best part about how liquid it is is that the crust soaks up a lot of it! Recipe courtesy DAVIDsTEA:
-6 teaspoons of tea
-1 cup water
-1 cup sugar
Brew the tea in the water as you normally would, then strain the tea into a small saucepan. Slowly stir in the sugar and simmer on medium-low for 10-15 minutes.
When I have more energy I swear I will get back to reviews. I not only have my last 52teas order to review (which arrived about the time my computer went down, I think), but my Verdant order arrived on Friday too!

…Yeah, okay, it’s not tea. But as it turns out, I don’t have a lot of cold-busting teas in my cupboard. A few with lemongrass and/or ginger. And I’m getting sick of them.
But I used this one to make my Cream of Wheat today. Previously I’ve used Oh Canada from DAVIDsTEA, which also makes a good bowl of Cream of Wheat (if not a good tea), and Chocolate Orange/Oh Christmas Treat (also from DAVIDsTEA), which had a great chocolate-orange taste on top and a nauseating pu-erh taste underneath. (Note to self: pu-erh does not make great Cream of Wheat.)
This one makes an excellent bowl of mush! Tea taste is nice and light enough to not make the food taste odd. Strawberries come through decently; I wish they were just a little stronger…I’ll need to experiment. But with brown sugar added, this tastes a lot like when I was a kid and my parents would give me and my sister fresh strawberries to dip in brown sugar for dessert.
Steep time/temperature is how I prepared the tea before pouring it into the Cream of Wheat, obviously.
Preparation
I cannot comment on how this one tastes as a tea. I’ve actually been warned off this one before. It is a decent latte-to-go, although you should be warned that they put pumpkin-flavoured syrup in it to improve the taste when you get it in-store. (No, seriously. Straight from the mouth of an employee I’m friends with.) Also, the manager I was chatting with today added a few shakes of chai spicing on top (which I agreed with, just for the hell of it). It’s a really tasty, sweet pumpkin-chai thing now, but it bears relatively little resemblance to tea.
Also making a tasting note just to note that my home computer will not boot at the moment. At all. It lights up briefly, makes a whirring noise, and dies. Ugh. So it may be a while before I am around much again, since I can only update at school. And I like to have the tea in my mouth when I rate it. Which is hard when you’re at school. Ah, well.
