drank Creme de la Earl Grey by Tealuxe
8 tasting notes

Definitely my all time favorite “cozy” tea as well as cream earl grey tea. The flavor is smooth and creamy (I pick up a lot of vanilla overtones). I like to drink it with some milk and sugar. I’m not a huge Earl Grey fan so I was pleasantly surprised to find out how much I enjoyed it. I will be very sad when my tin runs out as Tealuxe does not have a great refill discount.

Not the most complex TGY, but I still get it every trip I take to Boston. Lightly toasted to bring out a nutty profile on top of its characteristic florals. Starts as a thick, flowery caramel liquor with a mildly astringent flavor that builds in the mouth and throat. Subsequent steepings reveal high floral notes, eventually settling into toasty astringincey. Brewed gong fu style (3tsp in a 200ml pot), lasts through 5+ steepings (not including the rinse).

drank Fig Formosa Oolong by Tealuxe

Overboard TTB

There must have been a lot of this in the Overboard TTB. It seems there a bunch of notes so everybody must be sampling it. :D

I’ve heard that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different out come. Well, call me insane be cause I keep trying formosa oolongs and I keep getting the same result. Why do I keep trying them? Well, I thought that with fig added it would be better but I couldn’t taste the fig. :( The tea isn’t bad it just isn’t for me.
The taste is just a bit too floral and perfume-y.

And again… Where’s the fig!

rosebudmelissa

That seems to be the question all of us had!

I find this tea tasty. What I don’t find is much fig flavor to it. I added sugar to this tea. I did try it without but decided it needed sugar to bring out the sweetness. It is definitely better with a little sugar. I just wish the fig flavor was stronger. It is still good, just not spectacular. It is the first tea I have tried from Tealux so I don’t know how it compares.

I brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with 3 tsp leaf and 190 degree water for 3 min.

Figgy tea should taste figgy.

Many thanks to The Cookie Lady for sending me this tea!

This is a very nice floral oolong. It’s smooth and has an underlying buttery oolong note along with high floral notes of honeysuckle and jasmine. There isn’t even a hint of fig. That’s disappointing because I adore a good fig tea. Still, this is a nice tea even if it isn’t what’s advertised on the label.

The honeysuckle and jasmine notes sound good.

So this one is a bit odd. Without sweetener, it barely tastes like anything; maybe a little oolong, but it’s minimal. With sweetener, it tastes like sweetener, but there’s no specific fruit that I can detect, definitely not fig. And of course, it doesn’t have the buttery appeal of greener oolongs either so I’m quite meh with this one. Back in the box it goes.

Um….what? Excuse me, but….when you put “fig” in the name of the tea, I fully expect to taste figginess….and then, when I don’t, I get grumpy.

Let me clarify—this tea is not a BAD tea. But, well, it is very distinctly NOT fig. In fact, it both smells and tastes like liquid sweetarts to me. It has this weird, fake, tart, sweet thing going on. Not at all what I wanted.

However, this could be good to drink sometimes. Just not when you want fig or a mellow oolong.

The Cookie Lady

What exactly do you think this person was trying to accomplish?? Haha

Miss Starfish

I have absolutely no clue! haha

Indigobloom

I had a an oolong with figs in it once, from Davids. It did remind me of figs but also had that tart element to it. I wonder if they used a sour fig (ie ice plant)

The Cookie Lady

Oh! I didn’t know such a fig existed!! That would make sense, though.

Indigobloom

Just a guess! I am curious though

Overboard TTB.

This smells and tastes very floral, not fruity at all. I’m puzzled about why someone would associate it with figs. I actually associate these scents with soap. It doesn’t taste soapy or anything, but my mind doesn’t really associate the flavor with food, which is kind of throwing me off. The mouthfeel is interesting, it makes my tongue a bit tingly, like mint or celery, or black pepper. I wonder where that comes from? Overall, an interesting tea, but probably not one I’ll keep.

Pass the Stash TTB #16

I approached this with some trepidation since mango is one of those fruits that is hard to replicate in tea. But this one does a fair job of it. It’s probably the closest to fresh mango I’ve found in tea. It’s lovely.

But I don’t think I’m quite in the mood for it. The weather turned last night and I had to drag the silk comforter out of storage so I didn’t freeze while sleeping. My palate wants hearty and spicy, the cloyingly sweet of toffee instead of the light sweetness of tropical fruit.

It is still a fantastic tea. I just wish I had found it a few months earlier.

If you miss DAVIDsTEA’s “Coffee Cake” from last winter, this is basically the same tea!

This is pretty good in terms of dessert tea. The “burnt sugar” aspect of the creme brulee is strong in the after taste; if you’re planning on doing a tasting event, you’re going to want a palate cleanser for this one (and you might want it in general).

I drank this as a bubble tea – it was surprisingly good iced, for a caramel based tea. Over all, probably better hot.

drank Vanilla Green by Tealuxe

From Another TTB?!?! round 2

A very nice vanilla green. It probably could have taken more steeps, but I simply didn’t feel like it. This tea is nice, simple, and not particularly a stand out in the crowd nowadays. I could see this as a daily drinker. I was busy doing cleaning, so this was nice to sip on, the flavor retains nicely as it cools. Where did the day go though??

1/3 tsp in 4oz @ 185, 1.5min
note: the leaf texture is add, very flat narrow leaves, stiff as if they had been flash fried. It was hard to measure out.

Cheri

I have a vanilla bean green that I just love. It is one I drink a lot of days, just because it’s nice to sip on, but doesn’t need focus or time. I’m almost out and the place I got it from isn’t selling online right now. :(

TTB 3: I’m really hesitant with greens. I’m still not great at steeping them, and I’ve had some really horrible flavors because of that. Something like this tea could change my mind though! The green tea, vegetabley taste is here, but not overwhelmingly. The vanilla is soft and creamy, and almost a marshmallow flavor, mixing well with the green. I’m surprised that I’m only the second review for this!

drank Pear & Green Tea by Tealuxe

I met up with a friend in Cambridge today, so I used it as an excuse to stop by Tealuxe! Today, I tried iced pear & green tea with bubbles. First off, the tea was just okay. I could definitely taste the pear flavor and a light green tea. However, the tea somehow came off perfume-y and weak at the same time. The bubbles were sweet and chewy, but that didn’t make up for the weak tea itself. I’m finding that with the fruity teas at Tealuxe, they tend to be a bit on the perfume-y side, so I need to be more selective when I go back!

Awesome fruit punch type aroma! It’s irresistible. No sugar needed for this as it is floral and slightly sweet. One of my favourite flavoured black teas.

drank Victorian Rose Tea by Tealuxe

I stopped by TeaLuxe because I was in the area, and got a few flavored teas. I’ve been drinking this one a lot (occasionally mixed with the creme brulee). It’s a good, simple rose tea. It’s not subtle, but it doesn’t have to be, and it’s pretty tasty.

I’ve realized I’ve been drinking a lot of simple flavored black teas lately. I have a whole bunch of oolong samples to try, but I keep waiting for a day when I have more… mental clarity, instead of one when I’m feeling foggy and overworked. As a result, I’ve mostly been drinking teas that don’t require very much effort. Which, y’know, is okay I guess. But maybe I should drink my oolongs anyway.

Strong floral aroma, rich almost oily bergamot flavor. Less traditional earl grey flavor than I expected, more flower.
