I had the bagged version of this at Houston Hobby Airport today on the last leg of the journey home. There were 2 bags in my 20 ounce cup. I generally would leave the bags in when I get them from coffee places like this, but after about 5 minutes I could tell that it would get way too strong so I pulled them out.
This was good. I liked it quite a bit. Well enough in fact to go to the hassle of taking it on the plane. Mostly I just throw away whatever I haven’t finished by the time the plane boards so I don’t have to juggle it while putting luggage away and getting settled.
Preparation
Whew, the Thanksgiving weekend was busy! And I got sick right in the middle of it, which is no good.
Yesterday I was feeling mostly better, though, and donned my bonnet for the Dickens Faire, a Ren Faire type thing for Dickensian London, which I love very much. And this year we did high tea at Cuthberts, the tea shop in the faire! The tea is only ok, but I love anything that comes with scones, and its just so much fun.
However, today, while my body feels fine, my voice is completely gone. I can croak and honk, but thats about it. Its rather funny, actually.
I had some of this for my morning pot. Its a warm and wintery blend, and I love it a lot. Its discontinued, but I see that Peets new company, Mighty Leaf, has come out with its own version of this. I bought some, and will be doing a side by side comparison very soon!
Is it cold yet? Weather report says 95, so no. Grrr.
This weekend I went with some friends to see HMS Pinafore, which I’d never seen before, and is deeply silly, and Mr. Holmes, which was a really good movie.
Makes Monday all the harder, after such a fun weekend. Boo, Monday!
But so far its been pretty productive, and I always enjoy the first pot of tea of the week.
I’m really going to miss this blend when its gone, as, alas, it is no more. Its a wonderful winter tea. Perhaps I should pause in drinking it until its cold again?
Peets is no longer doing their signature teas, and while this will mostly be alright, I will miss this terribly.
Winter Solstice is easily one of my favorite cold weather teas, rich, layered and complex, with a clear, bright note of orange peel and citrus.
I still have a fair bit of it, but its a bit bittersweet, now that this is my last tin!
This has been a tough year for tea companies closing!
I hate the summer time. The heat is oppressive lately, and I’m never good in the heat. It makes me wilt, and drinking the morning cup of tea is almost painful.
So I’m drinking a winter tea in an act of rebellion. Rebellion, I tell you!
Plus I’m exsausted so I need a tea that can kick my ass. Thank you, Winter Solstice.
For some reason this week I just cannot stay asleep. I keep waking up, either from upsetting dreams or just restlessness. Very annoying.
So, with an understaffed office, a million projects, and only one me, I need a serious tea. And that’s what this is. Its rich, its powerful, but its still delicious, with a touch of levity to it.
Come on week, lets do this.
I haven’t had this in a long time, and this morning it sounded excellent.
Its delicious, a rich tea full of flavor, that could almost be too heavy, if it wasn’t for the clever touch of orange peel, which brightens up my whole pot.
Its going to be a long day. I’ve got my job, and then my freelance job has something urgent going on, which is always a lot of work, and a bit unnerving.
Well, I shall get through it. Its Wednesday, this week is almost half done. I can do it!
Because I love a theme, there was no other tea I could possibly have this morning. Winter Solstice!
It also is good that the date-significant tea is also perfect for a winter morning, as its rich, layered, spicy, but with the gorgeous note of citrus, which is lovely, and makes it all very good.
Happy Solstice! Its all longer days from here!
I woke up to rain. Yay rain! My favorite weather, I must say. Pefect for finishing off this tea.
I opened up the tin to find that inconvienent amount, just a little too much for one serving, just a little to little for two. So I decided to overleaf the pot, and have myself a sipdown.
The note of clear, bright citrus cutting through the warm spice is what makes this one of my favorite winter blends. And this is the last of it until the winter. A bittersweet sipdown.
Yesterday it was in the 80’s, and today its grey and rainy. Good, perfect tea drinking weather.
I was hoping for a few more of these days, so that the flavor of the tea matches the weather.
Winter Solstice is my favorite of those winter spiced orange teas. Glorious. Not the right flavor for warm weather, so I’m glad I get to have it now.
Do you all have daylight savings time where you are? Because its kicking my but. Its a week old, but I am still exsausted.
Gosh it was hard to get out of bed, and I stood in my kitchen, blearlily staring at my teas. I was almost unable to pick a tea this morning!
I decided on an old faithful. I’m running out of this, which always makes me sad, but its a cold weather tea, so its probably for the best.
Help me, tea. Its going to be a long and complicated day!
The weather around here is going through some crazy cycling. Yesterday it was gorgeous, unbelievable spring weather. Yesterday I wanted a long walk, asparagus and fresh strawberries. (So I had them).
But this morning it is windy and cold, and so I want warm and cozy things.
Enter Winter Solstice!
One of my favorite winter teas, warm, savory, with a delightful note of citrus. But its better in the cold weather, so I’m happy to drink it now.
Aw man. I want this cough to go away! Its ruining my sleep.
So I am drinking a lot of tea (of course) as the solution to the problem.
This is a quinticentially winter tea to me. And we are getting the teasing taste of spring, so I should work on the amount I have left. Spring flavors are coming!
Woke up to a cold house, and a brand new cough. You know the kind where every breath you take feels dusty? Yeah, its that. Brilliant.
So the first thought that popped into my head, after assessing the situation, was “tea. now.”
And so I brewed some tea.
This sounded like exactly the right thing. A little roasty and warm, with a taste of spices and orange peel. One of my favorites for the cold weather.
Hopefully it will help the cough and the cold!
We are in a drought in my neck of the woods, which is a massive problem, as its farmland around here. But today it smells like there may be rain.
To help encourage the atmosphere, I am drinking this, my favorite winter tea. And, if we are lucky, we shall have some rain around here as well.
Had some of this at lunchtime. It was a treat. And they were almost out in my local Peets!
I knocked over my tin yesterday, and lost some of this leaf, and lost some of it into my sink. Not a lot, but enough to hurt me in my tender little soul. Its a good tea! Its only around this time of year! I wanna keep it!
Well, I’ve still got plenty, it will be alright.
