So good! I’ve tried another brand of Jasmine Green, and it was just too strong and the green tea too bitter every time. This tea is just right, the jasmine smells amazing and the green tea is smooth and not bitter. I drank a whole box in about 2 weeks, this tea is my new afternoon obsession.
Flavors: Floral, Green, Jasmine
Preparation
Bag: Leaves are about 3-4mm in length, bag is white filter paper. Tag contains name of tea and brew length which is 4-5 minutes.
Tea: Dark Maple syrup colored after 4 minute brew at about 200F. Aroma is a light earthy smell, barely noticeable. Flavor mild even earthy flavor nothing to write home about, with a rough astringent after taste that drys the back of the tong. After getting through most of the cup there was an was a mild oak flavor coming through.
Notes: I wouldn’t get this tea again, It was too astringent (bitter drying aftertaste). After drinking 12oz of the tea I needed a glass of ice water. Luckily I was able to try this out at a local coffee place without having to buy the whole box.
Flavors: Astringent, Oak wood, Wet Earth
Preparation
I’ve been searching for a cocoa cinnamon tea to replace a rooibos variety that Tea of Life no longer makes (at least that I can tell). This one is delicious! The Pu-erh means it tastes more like a tea, but it has the same smooth creamy-ness and hint of cinnamon that makes me so happy. Sweet bliss!
Very dark tea in color, taste is classic Yunnan but with some strong hints of Shu like notes….and the aftertaste is kind of like the aftertaste of a good cigar …its an odd little bagged tea but a good one!
Flavors: Malt, Oak wood, Tobacco
Preparation
This basically just tastes like toasted rice. I always forget how much I love this flavour until I have it! Maybe I do need a genmaicha or something similar in my cupboard, for the yums.

Shame on me. I picked this up a month ago in a coffee shop in Rutherfordton, NC and I’m just getting around to trying it. I don’t normally pick up bagged teas, but Numi seems respectable enough. And the word “yunnan” always gets my attention.
This is one of those teas that darkens the water pretty much instantly. By the end of 20 seconds, it looks practically done. The packaging said to give it 4-5 minutes, so I went with 4. The aroma as it steeps makes me think of puerh. It definitely has that aged, somewhat musty-sweet scent. By the end of the 4th minute, it’s as dark as coffee. Also like a puerh. Hmmm. Not what I was expecting.
So, after tasting it, I’m definitely feeling like I’m drinking puerh. Numi’s description says it’s made with yunnan tips, but that’s not what I’m getting. I can only kinda taste that raisiny goodness. It’s smooth like a puerh, too, with just a hint of astringency and bitterness. The more I drink it, the more I notice a nice maltiness. I’d love to see what this does with a splash of milk.
Flavors: Bark, Bitter, Malt, Musty, Raisins, Sweet, Wood

That was exactly my impression too. It was nice but totally different from what I expect of a Yunnan golden tips tea.
I had this tea for the first time 12 days ago…and I’ve had a cup every morning since then…so good. It’s so smooth for a strong black tea. I leave the tea bag in the cup while I drink, so it sits there for a good 15-20 minutes, but it’s still powerful enough to get a good second steep! I generally never get a good second steep out of my tea bags. I really have to try more Yunnan black teas…but first, I have a lot of tea to work through…it’s a good problem to have! Happy Wednesday, everyone! :)
Thank you, Steepster friends! When I joined this site last Saturday, I immediately started to see notes about Yunnan black tea, and they were all positive…so, I knew that I needed to try this tea! It’s bold, but so smooth. I immediately made a second cup after I was done my first, just to make sure…so good! If the bagged tea is this good, I’ll definitely have to try some loose Yunnan black teas. Add this one to the regular rotation!
Cooking TTB #13
I almost didn’t try this tea because it sounded a little too out of my comfort zone.. I mean spinach chive tea… Don’t you mean soup?? Anyway in the end I decided to give it a go, what’s a TTB for if its not to get you tasting something you wouldn’t usually pick for yourself?? And I’m so glad that I did! This was actually very tasty… With a slight punch of citrus and a savory flavor dominated by chives this is definitely something I would buy!
My first blooming tea. Definitely one that is better to look at rather than drink. It was extremely bitter and still hours later leaves a bad after taste lingering in my mouth. Couldn’t really taste much else, and re steeping it didn’t help. Display was beautiful though
Flavors: Bitter, Flowers, Green
Though this is definitely a better-quality pu erh than that often found in grocery stores, it has the usual problem of being mistreated in transit/storage in a way that makes it taste “off.” I’ve bought it from two different sources, one online and one offline, and both times found it to have the fishy taste that you get when pu erh has been stored improperly. I’m guessing that somewhere along the line it spent too long in a hot storage center.
The fish taste doesn’t mean the stuff’s going to poison you! It’s just not how it’s intended to taste. If you’re determined to purchase it, maybe try ordering directly from Numi’s website.
Flavors: Barnyard, Fishy, Forest Floor
Preparation
Yeah, this one just didn’t work for me.
After a few sips, I realized it tasted like something familiar: hardly tomato and hardly mint, but more like a steak seasoning or rub. Couldn’t finish my cup.
Flavors: Herbs, Peppercorn
Preparation
My favorite of the veggie teas thus far. Broccoli Cilantro has less of a broccoli taste and more of a pesto, herbal flavor that’s surprising pleasant as a with-dinner drink. I didn’t expect to like any of the veggie teas, but this one made a great impression.
Flavors: Broccoli, Herbs, Pepper
Preparation
I purchased a Numi sampler not too long ago, and the Chocolate Pu-erh really stood out. The chocolate was creamy and understated without tasting artificial or like a carob product, really excellent iced. I’m going to have to commit to a full package soon.
Flavors: Chocolate
Preparation
Third one from by box :3 I thought this one would be taken over by ginger.. But it turns out puerh is the dominant flavor! Ginger kind of hangs out in back in the aftertaste. It has a nice little kick to it but not enough to completely ruin the cup. It complements the puerh’s earthy flavor.
I was really curious about chocolate and puerh hanging out in the same cup. It turns out they like each other :3 This tea honestly reminds me of Mexican hot chocolate. It has a nice creamy chocolate with a pinch of cinnamon and then an earthy note from the puerh.
