drank Absinthe Frost by Herbal Infusions

another of the 12 days of christmas sent via dexter apparently my goal today is to drink a bunch to stay warm so that hopefully whatever is at the mail today doesn’t explode my cupboard any further lol. This one is pretty tasty for a white! I’m starting to think that i prefer flavoured whites over flavoured greens and straight greens over straight whites. Either way i’ll figure it out eventually. :) This one isn’t too bad. I have zero clue about what absinthe should taste like but this is minty and refreshing without being overly ZOMG in your face flavoured. not likely a restock but i did enjoy this cup a bunch :) thanks again dexter! this has been fun!

Terri HarpLady

I’ve never had absinthe, but I’m thinking it’s got a liquorice type taste?

TheTeaFairy

I meant to tell you, it’s not fair that my cupboard was not up to date when we swapped but yours was so please have a look now and tell me if you crave something else, I can send it by the end of the week :-)

Sil

this for sure wasn’t licoricey heh
teafairy – you sent me more than enough things for me to explore! I just hope my package gets there soooooon!

TheTeaFairy

Ok, but don’t be shy, my cupboard is yours :-)
Fingers crossed, i’ll let you know when I get to my mailbox today!

Dexter

(I have had absinthe – IMHO it’s this odd/strange/horrible mix of licorice and herbal. Think of a blend of Jagermeister and Sambuca)

sipdown! mostly because i really need to drink up some of these teas because HOLY THERE ARE TEA STORES IN CHICAGO! like close to the hotel…i can handle a 25 min walk for tea. I anticipate leaving early from work on monday and going to buy tea….just a hunch. I’m sure that now that i’ve said that, the world will conspire to keep me away from everything tea related but a girl’s gotta try!

this tea was less yummy the second time around but still decent enough to enjoy. not a restock though as there are others i prefer. Appreciate it though dexter! i’ve had a lovely time with these :)

Anna

What, WHAT. You’re going to CHICAGO?!

Fjellrev

Snap to it, Sil. Better make some room for your obvious Chicago tea haul! Chug, chug, chug.

Sil

yeah i leave Sunday night, but get in too late to actually explore tea places… work all day monday – hoping i can get out of work with enough time to at least run up to one tea shop (it’s a 25 mins walk ish), would then have to get dinner and do some work… then tuesday, get up, check out, work all day and fly home… not a fun time but i’m hoping i can get out monday for just an hour or so.

Lala

Ha ha, I would totally walk 25 min to get tea, but if I was out of milk – no way. That would have to wait. Priorities.

Sil

oh i don’t mind the walk…even an hour would be fine..and i COULD technically figure out the red line to get there but walking = checking out some of the places on the way.

Adagio and Tea Gschwender are both there…and if i walk back to the hotel, there’s always the magnificent mile or Macy’s near the hotel if i REALLY want to shop.

Sil

…though i hate shopping for things other than tea lol

Anna

Oh, but the FOODS. And the COCKTAILS.

Okay, which tea stores? Which.

Dinosara

Where will you be in Chicago/what tea store? (Lived there for 5 years!)

Anna

I love that everyone posted exactly at the same time. Sil, you said the magic words, ‘tea shopping’ and ’Chicago’. Who doesn’t get excited about that?

Sil

haha I’m staying at the W Downtown, but I was going to walk up the mile (and then head in a bit) to maybe try hitting adagio and tea gschwender since they’re sort of close to one another.

Unless you have some other secret places i should go to Dinosara…I pretty much just hit goggle tonight as i haven’t had any time otherwise. Plus, there’s a chance i’ll be back another 3-10 times this year so what i don’t hit now, i can hit later. The office is near that hotel so i’ll always be staying in that area…ish

Dinosara

I don’t have too many specific suggestions for you because I wasn’t really tea obsessed when I lived there. You should find an Argo, though, there are a few throughout the city.

Anna

Argo have exploded! Last time I was there, there was one, now there are like 8, or something.

Terri HarpLady

I go to chicago once a year to visit the harp factory. I almost never do anything else there. There was a tea shop there for awhile, but they closed before I got a chance to check them out.

Sil

argo is next door to work i think :)

Anna

I will admit I don’t like their stuff, but I like the free wi-fi, the decor (in the cosy ones)/the people-watching (the less cosy, but more lively ones) and their mugs. Especially the old ones with all the dots. I might possibly have a few at home.

this one isn’t bad, though i like others a bit more. Another tea from the 12 days of christmas dexter sent me :) There is a creaminess to this one, though i’m not sure i’d call it spiked eggnog. it does get bitter if you leave it too long but on the whole it’s not bad :)

this is another green from the 12 days of christmas that dexter sent my way. Again, though i am happy to try new teas, im not a fan of this one. There’s something in this one that makes me scrunch my face up. glad to have tried this, but it won’t be a reorder any time soon! :)

another of the 12 days from herbal infusions from Dexter I am not a fan of greens 90% of the time. Flavoured greens especially. But i DO like trying all the teas. Which means, i will drink green flavoured teas :) This isn’t a terrible cup but it’s not my favourite. If i was going for an almond blend, i’d prefer the depth that a black base brings. still happy to have tried it through! thanks dexter!

sipdown! (184) another quick sipdown tonight while watching fringe. Decent enough, but not worthy of a restock! thanks dexter!

Terri HarpLady

Tony & I are back to watching Supernatural, middle of season 5 :)

I’m so cold this morning. I’m almost considering braving outside to go to the office where i’d at least be warmer while i was there. Not that it’ll happen. Picked this one early this morning to try a few more of the teas that Dexter sent me. I have a whole bunch of samples from her, teafairy and missB that i need to get through so that my cupboard gets back to normal heh. I didn’t mind this one as much as others did. It had that creamy bailey’s feel to it, along with mint that wasn’t in your face sort of mint. I’ve got another little bit of this to try again and see if i stil feel that way on my second cup :)

drank Cacao Tea by Herbal Infusions

MMMMM. Delicious. This is a dark hot chocolate… without the milk, and cream. It’s pretty good. I may have to try this steamed with some almond milk cause that sounds delicious in my head.

I’m so glad for whoever mentioned this company on the Steepster board. I picked up a few sample sized packs, and look forward to trying them all now!

I seem to go through these strange phases when all I want is a rich cup of hot chocolate. Sadly, when I actually have that cup in hand, it’s too much for me to be able to finish. I’ve decided that a tea version of hot chocolate would be the way to go.. I’ll get that yummy hot chocolate flavor, but not the tooth-aching sweetness.

I remember trying cacao tea from Tisano and not being too crazy about it. It smelled incredible, but didn’t translate to flavor well. I’ve also had the cacao shell blend from American Tea Room and wasn’t a bit fan of that one either. It was a bit dry and bitter… and I wasn’t all that impressed. I saw this version with vanilla bean and rosita and thought that it might be a nicer version of a cacao blend.

The scent of this tea is so yummy. It reminds me very much of hot chocolate made from milk chocolate shavings. Sipping… I taste a smooth, creamy, but watered-down chocolate note, mixed with a little bit of vanilla and a dash of spice. The finish is a little bit drying, but I think that can’t really be avoided due to the cacao shells. I expect a fuller mouthfeel because the chocolate flavor is so spot-on, but the cup remains thin and watery.

I really do think that this is the closest I can get to drinking hot chocolate, without actually having it. Sure, I’ll probably still have those times when nothing but actual hot chocolate will do, but this is a nice substitute.

Tabby

I need to try one of these cacao teas! I’ve seen so much hype about them lately.

QueenOfTarts

Tabby- you should! They are very interesting and completely different than other herbal teas out there.

Sil

i still prefer the original from Herbal Infusions to the flavoured ones, but so far theirs are the tastiest that i’ve had.

QueenOfTarts

Sil, I agree. This is certainly the tastiest cacao tea blend I’ve had so far. I will have to try the original one next time!

drank Tropical Christmas by Herbal Infusions
11287 tasting notes

sipdown! (190) Another one from Dexter who very nicely surprised me with samples of all 12 of the herbal infusions teas as i missed being able to grab them thanks to a very long day of work.

I couldn’t tell you what’s in this blend. I drank it unthinkingly while browsing adagio fan blends (curse you cavo!). What that does tell me is that i enjoyed it quite a bit! it wasn’t overly sweet, wasn’t a hibiscusy blend..though the smell started to get to me after a while. I’d actually like to try this one cold brewed sometime. thanks dexter!

Preparation
Boiling 4 min, 0 sec
OMGsrsly

I know! I started browsing the fan blends, and have a list. :D

Sil

yeah except i don’t like adagios bases most of the time…so those would be really expensive tins hahaha

MissB

Heh. Talk to Dexter about some of the blends, and I have a good handful too if you’d like some samples…

Dexter

(That box is in the city – should get it tomorrow – I don’t think I’ve ever tried any of the fan blends, so ordered some. Always willing to share with tea friends )

Sil

haha will let you know :)

Cavocorax

I just saw this now. Hahaha. I love that you guys are thinking fandom tea thoughts. I want them all. And then I want a blending tea kit so I can make my own and trick everyone into buying it and raving about it so I can earn points for more free tea.

Except I’ll never get my own Adagio account bc of insane shipping stupidity. I should email them again and see what they say about with another method.

Sil

i am so insanely jealous of dexters fandom sampler tins right now…

drank Candycane Licorice by Herbal Infusions
11287 tasting notes

sipdown! (181) I was hoping to get to 180 tonight since i HAD time to actually drink tea tonight, but i think that i’ll end just shy of that goal unless i can find another herbal that’s close to being finished. I like this one, and it was quite the contrast to the spicy of the fireside. Of course that also meant that the “sweet” of the licorice was intensified lol. Still though, a neat blend to have tried, though not a restock! thanks again dexter!

TheTeaFairy

I envy your sipdowns super powers!

Sil

helps having little amounts of swaps from ppl :)

drank Candycane Licorice by Herbal Infusions
11287 tasting notes

Another one from dexter! :) I would have gotten through all 12 days today i think except for getting a late start on them heh. This one is quite tasty, though the licorice makes it a little sweet for my tastes. If i can find a way to dial it back a bit, i think it will be even tastier. Maybe i can add my 52 shamrock tea to it heh. If you don’t like licorice, stay away from this one. There’s a creamy, lemon, mint licorice flavour going on here. I’m not sure i’d call it candycane..but it’s not too shabby :)

drank Pumpkin Pie by Herbal Infusions
11287 tasting notes

sipdown! (188) yeah that’s right.. i’m a sipdown crazy person today, though i’ve nearly reached my limit lol This one still tastes like melon, though i could explain what about it makes me taste melons. It seems to be a theme with me and certain pumpkin teas. heh. Still though, a delicious cup to have along side the chili we made…because it’s COLD! BOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Cavocorax

It is really melon-ish! I enjoyed it though. I wish it were more pumpkin, but it’s not so much pumpkin season now.

Dexter

This one is melony? I LOVE Tealux pumpkin spice (or whatever it’s called) because of the melon – I don’t think it’s a pumpkin tea I think it’s a cantaloupe tea. If this is like that then it excites me…

Sil

Dexter – yeah that’s the one this reminds me of. Mind you this is all based on memory but I’m pretty sure you sent me that one and I had the same response lol melon, not pumpkin but still tasty

Another one from dexter! I’m trying to switch over to some of my caffeine free teas on the off chance it decides to bug me tonight. I’ve got a meeting in the morning with a vendor so i need to be on my game!

This one reminds me a lot of the pumpkin rooibos from tealux i think it was. Sadly that also means that it reminds me of melon. For whatever reason it’s like honey dew/cantaloupe sort of melon. Enjoyable but man i miss the pumpkin tea terri sent me haha

Helena

well then you need pumpkin chai from David’s Tea or Butiki’s pumpkin tea… Dang it I forgot the name of it…

Sil

Helena – i like butikit’s pumpkin burlee oolong, but david’s tea doesn’t do it for me. the pumpkin tea terri sent me is by far my absolute favourite though. real chunks of dehydrated pumpkin in it, made locally.

Helena

Pumpkin Chai isn’t for everyone it’s more of a sweet treat to keep from snacking! Butiki’s pumpkin creme brulee is very good though. I tried a pumpkin spice from Tea Story a local tea shop and it was pretty good. Sometimes you just need that pumpkin fix :D

Sil

Yes! I agree…though now that it’s officially winter here, I’m sure I’ll be moving on to the Chais haha

Helena

There should be a way to have your pumpkin and chai too…

sipdown (192) this one makes me sad. smells so good, tastes bleh. thanks for sharing though dexter! that’s always good for a smile :)

OMGsrsly

Aww. Too bad. I actually kind of liked this one.

meh. not enough ginger and too much like a diluted apple cider. Drinkable but i feel like Herbal Infusions can do better. I’ve got at least another cup so i’ll try playing with the parameters to see how that goes. :) thanks dexter! having a great time with these.

drank Fireside Masala Chai by Herbal Infusions
11287 tasting notes

sipdownd of this one. Second cup around there’s a flavour in here i do not like. I can handle the spicy heat of this, but there’s an almost soapy? floral? flavour in the background that i’m not happy with. That being said, this makes me want to go dig sichuan caravan out of the cupboard and have that for the other sort of spicy ginger love it flavour. Thanks for sharing this dexter!

Cavocorax

This is listed as a black chia, but it’s a rooibos, isn’t it? It’s gotta be. Unless I’m crazy.

Sil

Rooibos as far as I’m concerned :)

Terri HarpLady

Mmm….Sichuan caravan…

wooop! this is a seriously spicy chai – not quite as intensely spicy as butiki’s spicy tea but enough to make me sit up and take note! The longer the tea cools, the more the spice sticks out as well. I quite enjoyed this cup, courtesy of dexter thank you madam! cleared my stuffy nose right up haha

sipdown (189) time to switch to the lesser caffeine options i think. I’ve kinda been drinking a lot today in an effort to stay warm in our house. Our balcony door’s weather stripping is nearly non existent so the wind has been pushing through all day, making the house colder than normal. I had tow ear socks today. blech. 188 up to 193 and back down to 189 lol good times were had by all!

this one’s not too bad but it’s a little picky for my tastes. it’s easy to brew this up and get a bit of bitterness that i don’t like. Still though, an enjoyable cup!

Anna

‘An effort to stay warm’… Pff! We know a radical sipdown effort when we see one!

Sil

i have been cold all day. it sucks.

TheTeaFairy

A Canadian winter to remember that’s for sure…Sil, on top the wind and cold there’s so much snow that for the first time ever, my dog refuses to go to certain spots in the woods cause he sinks and disappears under it, and he’s got giraffe legs, I swear!!!

keychange

I hate wearing socks indoors also!

caile

I need new weather stripping for our back door – its amazing how much cold air is coming in under there!

Another tea from dexter Now that i’m home from our wanderings i’m going to try and sample a bunch of the teas that have been recently sent to me so that i can start to get my cupboard under control again. Not even aiming for sipdowns! just trying everything haha.

While i like the flavours in this one better than the EG – there’s a dryness to this one once it cools that i’m not as much a fan of. The base is nice, and this is for sure a milk/cookie sort of tea. I didn’t get a chance to drink it when it was closer to boiling, so i’ll have to make sure i try that next time. On the whole though, another positive offering from Herbal infusions :)

sipdown (191) sooooo second cup of this i almost couldn’t finish. the bergamot just got to be too much for me. What i want is this tea…sans bergamot. then it would be perfect and delicious. still though, not bad for an EG :)

79

there are snowflakes in my tea. Dexter warned me when she sent these to me but i’m ok with them since Herbal Infusions doesn’t but this crap in all of their teas. I’M LOOKING AT YOU DELLA TERRA! bah. I figured i’d start with this tea because a) everyone seems to like it and b) it’s an earl grey, which is not generally a winner in my books.

first off – this smells wonderful! not at all like an EG. then i brewed it up and it was like OH bergamot! There you are…i thought i’d missed you :)
This is more marshamllow-y than EG like. The base is pretty nice and the bergamot is totally taking a back seat to this whole mixture. While it’s not going to win any tea of the year awards from me – it’s an EG that i can drink and enjoy :) thanks dexter!

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 0 sec
VariaTEA

I am glad you liked it. It is definitely a more mellowed EG than others I tried.

TheTeaFairy

I also hate candies in my tea!!!!! But I’m willing to accept it if it’s really worth it and does’t create gooey weird stuff on the surface, that I just can’t stand.
I just purchased lots of teaware online from DavidsTea and they sent a bunch of samples. I hardly ever buy their teas anymore but hey, free samples, I’ll try. I had White Chocolate Frost yesterday, and the tea itself tasted pretty awesome, but the texture was so oily and when I looked at my cup, I swear there was a toxic blue nuclear waste floating all over, it ever got stuck inside the cup, I couldn’t finish it, gross!!!

Sil

i am in the minority in my hatred for david’s teas. I’ll drink them when other ppl buy them and share them but i don’t like stevia, don’t like that they don’t always list ingredients and i hate the oily film on a lot of their teas. I’ve tried their straight teas as well, and for those prices i can get insanely more delicious straights :)

TheTeaFairy

Well I’m totally with you, so the minority just got less minor, lol!

Terri HarpLady

I’ve been curious about this one, especially on a snowy day like today :)

MissB

Add me to that DAVIDs list, although I do still have a few that I enjoy – mostly herbals.

Sil

hahaha yay for the minority! (though i do confess i love me some lime gelato…but i’ve found others that are delicious for cheaper heh)

Terri HarpLady

sprinkles freak me out :p

Herbal Infusions Tea Co.

I was on the fence with the snowflakes in this blend but really couldn’t resist! The themed bag had a snowflake so I just needed to continue the theme :) Glad to have the feedback on this blend :D

VariaTEA

@ Herbal Infusions – Will there be any way we could be more of it?! I am running out of this fast!

Sil

Dan – I always prefer none of that crap to any of that crap, but you don’t put it in all your blends so I didn’t mind seeing them in this one as a Christmas special sort of thing. And yours didn’t melt into a goofy clump that messed up my brew basket.
