This is one of those teas where I ask myself: “Where do I start?”

A fine Georgian black tea complex enough to be satisfying but never pretentious. It feels like an accessible yet refined ‘peoples’ tea. Fruity, floral, woody, malty. Delicate, lightly stewed fruits and grape verging on muscatel with a touch of butter, leather, salt. Rosewater and cherrywood base. The malt never dominates. Balanced astringency. Some spiciness in feel but not in taste. Nice fruity, tangy aftertaste. The body is damn near perfect for a stands-on-its-own black tea.

Granted I only had enough of this from a swap with Martin to have 3 days of western prep, it seems like a versatile tea. It has that comforting sweater weather feeling that made the past few mornings’ cloudy cold snap more bearable, but it’s also light and bright enough to feel refreshing on this sunnier and warmer spring morning. It sits so right with me. Thanks, Martin :)

Flavors: Apricot, Butter, Cherry, Cherry Wood, Dark Wood, Floral, Fruity, Grapes, Leather, Malt, Muscatel, Peach, Rose, Rosehips, Salt, Spicy, Stewed Fruits, Tangy

You are welcome! I know I have to buy some more again. It is one of the finest black teas I had! As you said, good on its own.

ashmanra

That sounds wonderful! I have seen a Georgian tea for sale in Chapel Hill but never tried it. May need to have a look again.

Martin Bednář

ashmanra: I can get some, if you want to. Or O have something still in cupboard, but I don’t know how much. Feel free to write me an E-mail.

ashmanra

Thank you for the offer, Martin! I may take you up on that!

And another tasting note of this one. Raising the rating from 95 to 99 as it is my all time favourite I guess.

Yes, as you know, I have birthday today! And this day needs great tea. And that one from morning wasn’t it. But quarter of a century over here? To sum up… I had completely different thoughts about last 5 years. But it is like that and I don’t want to change it. If I decided otherwise I won’t met so perfect guys around me. Not only Steepster people, nor classamtes, nor co-workers. It’s not perfect life, but who needs a perfect life? It would be boring.

But this tea is close to perfect and no way boring. I won’t repeat myself, just read other notes :)

Yummy, malty jam. No bitterness even prepared grandpa as usual, full-bodied, just perfect for this day!

Song pairing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYEC4TZsy-Y
Although there could be many nice songs, for example this one helped to go through the panic attack yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHCV_ro2U_A (if you google translate lyrics, you will lose the play with words, but you will get basic thought of song)

Thank you all that I could be member of this community. I like it here because of you guys!

Happy birthday! I hope it’s filled with lots of beautiful tea.

Roswell Strange

Happy Birthday!!!

ashmanra

Happy birthday, again, Martin! First song is one I knew well, and the second one is really awesome. I didn’t see a translation in the comments but listening to it was quite nice!

Martin Bednář

Managed to translate it a bit; check that out :)
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1v6jgvrGJIUfdgQ0bfACzX7ReWiwl9hinXG4K2b03kDU/edit?usp=sharing

Just don’t edit it. I want that you all can enjoy it :)

Leafhopper

Happy birthday! Yes, Steepster is a great community. Wishing you more good tea in the year to come.

Teatotaler

Happy birthday, Martin! 24 June is my birthday too. It seems that there are three of us here born on 24 June. :)

ashmanra

Wow! Happy birthday to you, also, Teatotaler!

ashmanra

Martin: Thank you for the translation! That was a lot of work!

Martin Bednář

Teatotaler: Happy birthday then for you as well! So, we are at least 3 on Steepster with same day. Oh, and it is just one of 365 days.

ashmanra: I just wanted you all to understand that song. It is easier to listening to English songs and then translating it for myself to Czech than vice versa. But I am happy that you liked it even without translation :)

Everyone: Thank you for being here, despite Steepster looks like in agony. I hope it will survive as long as possible. I am glad to have at least few people with other contacts. I was even thinking making some alternative for this page, but busy with school, so… it is still just in my head.

Nattie

Happy birthday for yesterday Martin and teatotaler! What a coincidence that there are so many of us here on Steepster with the same birthday! (:

mrmopar

Happy birthday Martin!

Martin Bednář

Thank you mrmopar!

Now I am sad with this SIPDOWN.

It is truly amazing tea; with bold malty characher, but there are as well some fruit notes, mostly grapes. Grape, malty jam tea :) Even prepared grandpa — 6 grams per 300 ml.

I think I wrote enough about this tea already, derk wrote a lot of impressions as well…

Now it is time to buy new packet and send a sample to ashmanra to hear another tea lover thoughts about this tea. Same with dreamloomer.

I will able to get it next Thursday, so if anyone is interested in somehow small tea swap (as well across the ocean), I can put this one in as well :)

Fourth tasting note, hehe.
I wanted to prepare it grandpa, but found out it is very dusty, so prepared grandpa and then strained into another mug.
Steeping time was around 3 minutes and it was just right.
Full of grape flavours, bit of florals. Even the woody flavours that derk noticed. Lightly stewed fruits? Maybe that as well! Lightly leather.
Anyway, this was one of the best preparation methods I used.
It was so refreshing and tasty, complex – but not too much that you don’t know what to focus on. Not drying even, it is bit tannic. I just must buy more of this one. Hopefully soon!

I took this one to find out how much I have rest. Unfortunately, just a little of some dust, only few big leaves. Ashmanra, if you want some – please wait till situation here will be little better; as I don’t go to Uni city at all and I am not really sure if they even can sell anything.

As for tea – it is how derk managed to write about. She is much better in desrcription than I. It’s simple tea, yet quite complex if you look closely on it. It’s woody today, but not in rooibos matter, rather like some heavy taste. It was indeed less malty – yet present well, notes of red grapes in as well.

As prepared quite weak, I suppose I do not notice everything; moreover it was grandpa brewing.

As for news here: all restaurants closed down, they can do drive-away (walk-away, swim-away… et cetera). All shops but selected fields (foodstuff, chemist’s, drugstores and few others) closed down. Big issue is that Ministry of Health admits that in hospitals are missing about one million respirators. Prime minister says that it is a lie and there are no problems. Also, there was a man, who had symptoms and they did not wanted to test him at all. One region received finally! (after 14 days) respirators. 50 per whole region! “It must be enough”. “We can’t give them to anybody who asks”

Flavors: Grapes, Malt, Wood

ashmanra

Martin – no worries at all! Please stay in and stay safe!

Martin Bednář

I am really afraid. Not because of family, but rather because our government creepy measures.

ashmanra

I mainly worry about the way people are hoarding things! I do not want my family to go hungry. But at least we have a very large amount of wheat that we can grind and have fresh bread for many months to come. Prayers for you and your family!

Martin Bednář

Same, same… people hoarding up. But kind of understand it, during communist regime here there was nothing available, or in so limited quantities. I really dislike staying home and going just to shops and back.

mrmopar

We just had a 2100 prayer time for finding a cure for the virus. Everyone please stay safe. Prayers for all.

I have prepared this tea in gong-fu style. It is rather weird, but actually works quite well. I did several 30 seconds long steeps. All of them were very tasty, strongly malty with some velvet like aftertaste. It was smooth as velvet – not taste like velvet. Maybe some grapes were there, little of smokiness too. As well some florarity.

Overall, it is good tea. Maybe western style suits this tea best. Or brewing it in a large pot for sharing with everyone.

Ordered at Dobrá čajovna tearoom in Pardubice, as I am waiting for bus. Yep, another inventory check. This time groceries in Prague. I don’t feel great – last one was poorly made (my part) and I will got less money because of mistakes

Ordered this one, as I never had tea from Georgia. Received a teapot of volume I guess around 250-300 ml, a tea cup and thermos of hot water to add it to the pot.

Tea itself is quite sweet. But delighful sweetness. Bit like oolong sweetness. Roasted sweetness. I don’t know how to describe it better.

It tastes bit like jam. Malty jam. There are no citrus/lemon notes. Full of malt. But in no way drying.

Wonderful tea.

Leafhopper

I had a Georgian tea from What-Cha and “malty jam” describes it perfectly. :)

Martin Bednář

Haha :)
I could not resist and bought 50 grams of it. Lots of to find all the secrets of this tea.

Another tea room Thursday. Well, I need to boost myself because of Thursday nights part-time job. This one was delivered day before I ordered it, so apparently really fresh! Let´s see.

Gaiwan, approx. 100-120 ml. I should ask. I don´t know how much leaves in, but it was quite a lot in my opinion. I have not counted steeps, but 1 liter thermos was gone. Each steep about 15-30 seconds.

Okay, now to the tea:
Aroma was storng orchid garden, floral, with little notes of smoke.
Colour of brew was light golden which was turning to darker and darker. Leaves went through the strainer of gaiwan. Not much of them though.
Taste was wonderful, floral, with little astrigency. But still smooth, mellow. Energy boosting.

I stayed awake till 6 am without any troubles with short, about few 15 minutes naps in bus back home. So apparently wake up call. The tea was wonderful, for great price / value ratio. I paid 108 CZK for whole thermos and I can make it as I wanted. Really, 20 seconds was average steep and I am surprised how bold it was.

I went to tea room yesterday, as I had to wait for my friend.

Gaiwan (unknown volume, I guess about 120 ml), steeps around 20 seconds with 90°C water, then up to 1 minute steep. I don´t know how much leaves in, maybe 5 grams?

Let´s start with aroma: really nice floral garden, maybe little jasmine notes, nothing funky, bitter, or unpleasant. I really liked it and it changes during the steeps.
Colour: hard to say, as it was dark there, but I was trying my best and I think it was yellow-green and clear. Maybe bit more yellow, but the light has warm temperature. So, I can´t be really sure.
Taste: the most important! Wonderful. It was like walk through garden, smooth, bit like a cream or milk (thank you Mr. Teaman there). I have to learn so much to recognize different tastes. Smooth. Jasmine. Floral. Dreaming.

Really good tea, which is unfortunately out of their stock (on website), but they offered me a bag for 350 CZK (I guess 100 grams). More amazing than I thought, probably very fresh one. LOVELY!

I loved it !!!!
The tea list explained that it was a strong tea, to be drunk with milk and honey. Usually I prefer green teas, light and soft. But there, I discovered a fantastic and euphoric tea, perfect for strong winters, for recovering after a hard walking day…
Unusual tastes, fabulous perfume, unic savour. I’m addict…

Man oh man, I had this at Dobra Cajovna in Praha. Not the mother store but the one with hookah. Let me tell you that this is such a magnificent tea. I enjoy most tea quite a bit but this was extra special. Almost euphoric in my enjoyment of this tea, I await the next time I can consume. I might just have to order some.
