Dilmah

Delicious straight black tea. The one I drink in the morning when I just want a cup to pick me up without really paying attention to it. I prefer maltier teas like Yorkshire tea, but this one is fair trade and it’s very decent for bagged tea.

It’s not that this tea is bad as much as it’s just simply mediocre. It’s peppermint and english toffee but you can’t really sense either at first taste, and I personally cannot taste the english toffee at all, and the peppermint is very, very subtle. Dilmah’s other “Exceptional” collection teas vastly surpass this one – Rose with French Vanilla and Maharajah Reserve Assam in particular come to mind. Can’t fault it being uninteresting though, as the blend is tasty and pleasant.

Horrific. Easily one of the worst teas I’ve ever had to date. It smelled heavenly, but drinking it? Nope. Bitter and artificial tasting.

Brews up dark, smells like fresh moss and rain.. although that could be because I’m from the Pacific northwest and I always turn to a strong black breakfast tea. A little astringent as it cools but not overly so. Perfect for pairing with milk and sugar for cozying up. Also perfect piping hot straight black on the go for a morning wake up. A really strong basic tea.

Doggone it, I have a temperature again! 100.4 this afternoon and 100.8 this evening. Life is not fair. Anyone who tells you differently is trying to sell you something. Hmph.

So I decided on a plain sturdy tea this afternoon. I like Dimlah teas. You can’t really go wrong with a plain, straight black tea like this. It’s not a tea of marvelous depth like some of the Whispering Pines teas, but there is something to be said for a workhorse of a daily tea like this. And bagged tea is so darned convenient when you don’t want to fuss.

This is a very decent basic tea, very nice in the morning. Convenient to take with me to work, too, since it comes in individually wrapped bags. One of my tea-loving friends dismisses it as “boring” orange pekoe, but I like it.

Good tea base, but didn’t blend in well with the toffee, which was weak. Very slight mint, only towards the end. Quite an odd combination.

Backlog (last one!). This was by far the most common tea available in Poland, always offered with lemon and sometimes with sugar. I only had it with milk once (and sugar, too; it was called “caramel tea” on the menu, which was kind of cute), but it took it well.

This tea steeps very fast and strong and is rather bitter when left black. It resteeps easily several times, and on at least three occasions I got a full four-cup pot out of one bag. My favorite way to drink this was with a squeeze of lemon, which seems to be the common Polish way to serve tea. Something about the lemon balances out the flavor of the tea and makes it truly delicious. It’s not the best I’ve ever had, but it was reliable and available everywhere. I’ve developed a kind of affection for it after 20+ cups.

Backlog. This was my other favorite of the Dilmah teas. If the Blackcurrant tasted like black currant candies, this tastes like those strawberry candies with soft centers that are so hard to find but so delicious. Again, it’s good both with and without sugar, and I drank it both ways according to my mood. Another one I would buy!

Backlog. This was one of my favorites of the Dilmah teas. I admit I’ve never eaten an actual black currant (although I have had the red ones), but I have eaten candies flavored like them. This tea tasted exactly like those candies! It was good plain, not too bitter or astringent with strong fruit flavor, and with a little sugar added it was delicious. When I have some room in my cabinet I want to buy it.

Backlog. Wow! This is probably the strongest bergamot I’ve ever tasted. That’s not a bad thing, though, because it’s firmly on the side of citrus instead of perfume. The tea itself gets dark very fast, but after I added some lemon it was really pretty good. I ended up liking some other Dilmah teas (the strawberry and blackcurrant) better, so I didn’t revisit this one, but it’s a solid EG.

This tea is more forgiving than I thought it would be. I am having a difficult time waking up this morning and forgot about this steeping in the kitchen when I sat down to study. I have no clue how long it was sitting there, oversteeping. I thought it was going to be terrible. It came out slightly bitter, which I haven’t gotten from this tea before, but still drinkable. This is my current morning sip-down tea. I will be sad when it is gone and on the hunt for a loose leaf version.

My morning tea. I do enjoy this one with sugar. I was surprised when I went through my stash and found it fell in the “Over 6mo”pile. Goal is to drink one or two cups from that pile a day.

It’s been a long while since I’ve had this one. I feel a headache coming on so I decided I needed something a little more than my green teas I’ve been leaning toward recently. I didn’t want the bang in your face, wake up this instant, taste that I get from the blacks I have in my stash.

I still add a bit of sugar to this one. I think this tea, especially since it’s bagged, has a lovely flavor.

Woke up with a migraine this morning. Adjusting back to Missouri time is proving a bit difficult. Thankfully, I don’t work until 1p today. That means caffeinated tea and cuddling with the pooch. This is currently my favorite black tea, even if it is in tea bags.

Starting the morning off with this one. Wanted to start with a black tea for the caffeine. I just love the smell of this one!

Had this one with friends when we went to a new tea room in the area for lunch. I liked this one so much that I had to buy some. It reminded me of a tea that I had at an Arabic restaurant. This tea definitely tastes like rose water.

This has been in my cupboard for too long… I am not sure if the slightly weird fruity flavour has anything to do with that. It tastes strongly of strawberry, but there is an additional sweet note that I cannot identify. I guess it’s supposed to be mango, but it tastes nothing like that! Anyway, the fruity flavour is artificial so it’s probably not for any serious tea drinker.

This is an okay tea. The blueberry flavour is decidedly artificial – it’s the kind of fruity flavour you expect when you have fruit pastilles. I don’t hate it though because I grew up with fruit pastilles! :P

This tea makes me feel like a caramel dragon!
It smells a bit caramel-y, but I mostly experience it as an aftertaste—especially in my breath. Maybe I’m just not experienced enough to distinguish “caramel” taste from “sweet” though because this is a sweet black tea. Strong, but not bitter.
I enjoy this cup less because of taste and more because it’s fun to be a dragon.

Truly one of the worst teas I’ve ever had. Possibly THE worst. I’d considered giving it a straight up 1/100, but I can sorta see how someone else might like it, even if it’s like drinking rose-scented dish soap.
For me, it was just way too floral. Overpowering. I couldn’t have imagined anything more floral unless I was literally eating rose petals straight up. Then again, I’m not a fan of floral teas. I’d tried adding some sugar to cut the bitter flavor, but to no avail. The vanilla flavor wasn’t present at all.
Overall, unless you enjoy the most floral of teas, I wouldn’t recommend this to you.

i’ve been mourning the loss of lipton “almond pleasure” tea for 15+ years now, and i am happy to say that i’ve found a decent replacement in dilmah’s “italian almond”. while i agree with other reviewers (both here and on amazon, where i ordered this tea) that the flavors of this tea are not complex, “almond pleasure” was definitely not complex either… so it doesn’t bother me very much.

after drinking it as-is the first few times, i had the idea of cutting the tea bag open and mixing the leaves with a heaping teaspoon of “coquelicot gourmand” from dammann freres. i think this will be my preferred combination from now on. the almond taste comes through quite delicately at the end of the sip, giving “coquelicot gourmand” a bit of an almond boost as it already has marzipan flavoring.

the tin smells heavenly when you open it. i wish i could purchase this tea in loose form rather than tea bags, but thats nothing a pair of scissors cant fix!
