I was feeling a little sick this morning, I wanted a little pick me up with a little spice, this tea helped clear up some stuffiness and I could still taste the chocolate goodness despite my cold :)
Flavors: Chocolate, Spicy
Preparation
i think this tea is best iced down and cold per the tea person’s recommendation. the other reviewer is right, more than a cup, it’s a bit nauseating since it’s so fragrant. also, after subsequent brewings, you will notice a bitter note—so don’t steep too long and ice it down! this is an once in a while type tea!
This tea is happiness in a cup. Smells like birthday cake, looks like a party and tastes like caramel cake. I’m in love. If you are looking for caramel without tobacco or smoky notes, try this.
Flavors: Cake, Caramel, Cream, Sweet, Vanilla
Preparation
I really like what I imagine the pu’erh part of the taste of the tea is. The rest of it tastes like, well, one of those chocolate oranges, with more orange flavor than chocolate. The tea is kind of “less-than” for me since I’m not super fond of that flavor, but I might try it again.

David’s Chocolate Chili Chai is the reason I joined Steepster … just to write this review. This tea is sublime! A little bit about my tastes: I drink coffee, love spicy foods, red wine, and chocolate. This tea is great first thing on a misty morning, or sitting at my desk on a winter evening watching the snow fall. It’s sublime. As I am writing this, I have finished my cup but the scent of this tea still lingers the air. David’s Tea should start making candles! Unbelievably yummy. Two things I would like to note: I used an 8 oz mug and I like a little more tea than the average bear: I use a tablespoon. The flavor makes the more rapid dwindling of my stash so worth it. I can always get more. And I will. :) A million stars.
Preparation
This tea is VERY sweet. I thought that it it had some kind of sweetener in it, but when i looked at the ingredients, it doesn’t. I had to water it down, but it was quite delicious
Flavors: Orange, Sweet
Preparation
I have had a couple of samples of this one, and it is SO good! I wish that I could get more of it. It tastes like Nutella in a cup!
Flavors: Chocolate, Hazelnut
Preparation
I have tried this tea both as just a tea and as a chai tea as the name suggests. As a chai tea I can taste the chocolate and and just a note of chili. Nothing to make it spicy, but to just enhance the chocolate. As a tea, it reminds me of Chocolate Rocket.
Books recommended for this tea are: The Black Dahlia by James Ellroy, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, & Mystic River by Denis Lehane
Preparation
I received a sample of this with my latest David’s Tea purchase. It has big tea leaves—a fantastic sign. I used about half of the sample because I still don’t have a proper tea ball, and I’d rather let such pretty leaves unfurl in a wee bit of water, than cram it all in this microscopic tea ball I have and not get the bestest flavor.
It smells amaaaaaazing! :) And the taste? Out. Of. This. World. I thought I’d tasted white tea, but no… I’d only had shadows, powder, imitation teas that couldn’t hold a candle to this stuff. I am now, officially, a fan of white tea. It’s sweet all by itself, and has a round, grassy flavor—no funky aftertaste (those who have delved into the black hole that is supermarket bagged tea may know the aftertaste I’m referencing shudder).
Yup. I’m impressed. And I just used half a teaspoon. And my water was probably way too hot.
Flavors: Sweet, Vegetal

This one is really not for me. I appreciate the complexity, but I felt as though the rice made it taste vaguely like soup. I normally love green tea, but I couldn’t finish the cup this time. On the plus side, I’m learning more and more all the time. I guess I’ve finally found a type of tea that really does not appeal to me.
Flavors: Chicken Soup, Grass, Rice, Salty

Thanks! I’m still getting the hang of it all. Genmaicha isn’t my favourite, but I’d be open to trying it again (maybe a different brand?) in the future. I’ve changed my mind before.
You never know, it may grow on you or you may find a brand whose genmaicha you prefer. And if not, there is so much more out there!
This tea saved my day. Thanks NayLynn and Brandon! I swear I tried 5 different tea samples today and nothing hit the spot at all. I think some of the samples have gotten old and they just were off. I then decided I had to have a “happy” tea, something to make me smile. And this was perfect. :)
Today at Weight Watchers the scale showed me up a pound :( so I have to really push myself to have my lovely dessert teas instead of all the seasonal treats. It’s so hard….. I know a pound isn’t much but I don’t want to let it start going up after finally reaching my goal. I lost more than forty pounds and cookies are not going to tell me what to do!!!
You know know, it could be water retention. Just keep going! I know, I can get really discouraged when I put so much into weight loss and you plateau or even gain when you’re trying so hard, but it’s all about the willpower.
Oooh, toasty! This tea is warm and inviting, with subtle green tea notes and a lovely toasted rice/rice cake flavor. Its nice and mellow, the perfect kind of cup for a stormy day (which incidentally, we are having). This is a tea I could drink cup after cup of in one sitting and not be bored or overwhelmed.
Flavors: Green, Rice, Toast, Toasted Rice, Toasty

Today my David’s order showed up! I was so excited to use this mug that I sipped way too hot tea from it and burnt my tongue and the bottom of my mouth under my tongue! Easy there, girl! I was so ready to love this thing. Upon inspection I realized that the tea basket has a perforated lid and wasn’t an open basket like I thought from viewing it online. That excitement faded when I realized how difficult it was to get lined up correctly to screw the two halves together. It’s kind of a PITA. There is also a really sharp point where it looks like they laser welded the perforated sides onto the solid part with the threads. It is like they didn’t file two of the welds smooth and now I have to do it or risk slicing my finger trying to screw it shut.
The lid, which is the only plastic part on the mug, is the biggest let down. The lever part of the lid when swung back in the open position is in a really weird spot for trying to sip. I knock my nose on it every time I put the mug up to my lips, reminiscent of awkward teenage years when you bump noses with the other person trying to kiss. So not sexy! I have seen designs where the lid had a cut out so the lever part had a recessed place to live and lay flush with the rest of the lid when open or designs where the hinge was on the opposite edge of the lid from the mouth opening, letting it swing over and lay on the side of the mug. Another part I hate about this lid? The opening for the tea to come out is ridiculously small. It’s 1/2″ × 1/4". (No idea in mm, sorry northern friends!) I was driving and trying to drink from it and had to hold it up (while bonking my nose) for way to long to get a descent amount of tea in my mouth. The small opening also makes it a little more difficult for me to gauge the temp of the tea. I’m used to openings that are large enough for me to blow into, allowing me to gauge the temp by the heat from steam that blows back up. Another annoying thing about the lid? The designers were thoughtful in the fact that they put one of those little holes to keep air pressure from preventing tea from pouring out, but they put it just slightly above the opening, so unless you hold it at JUST the right angle, the tea covers both holes and you get the pressure build up anyways. I can hold it at a 45 degree angle with the lid down, the lever open and after a few spurts of fluid coming out, the flow stops completely. Who designed this?! A six year old?! I haven’t been to any design school, but I’m pretty sure I could make a lid that works 10x better than this one.
The last thing that I find disappointing about this mug is that the first version they came out with had a solid David’s teal silicone sleeve and the latest version does not. It’s a mug made for tea on the go, you are going to be all over town with it, it’s double walled glass… why was the decision made to take away a feature that would make this a little more durable and would likely help extend the life of the mug?
I was really hoping this would be a travel mug I too could be smitten with, but David, you fell short on this one and I’m going to have to respectfully disagree on the smitten part. Keep trying and I’ll keep an eye out for a glass travel mug with a lid that is functional, I haven’t given up on you yet, but I think I’m going to have to return this mug to it’s maker.
Edit: Just added some photos to illustrate my points.

Sounds like the perfect tea when you’re feeling kind of sick :)
