I don’t drink this for the taste, really, as I’m not the hugest fan of camomile. This doesn’t mean I don’t like it – I like it in the way I like favorite cereals of my childhood. Even though I don’t seek it out regularly, sometimes it just makes me feel at home. I keep it at work for its calming effects – it doesn’t make me tired, just relaxed. Few things do this.
The scent is right, but the rest is all wrong. For once, celestial seasoning’s obsession with propping up fruit teas with tons of hibiscus tartness would make sense. But no! There is no tart cranberry or hibiscus flavor in sight. This is a dull plasticy flavor that tastes very synthetic. I don’t know how else to describe it. Wait, I do! It has the same aftertaste as old jolly rancher candies. What is that weird flavor?
Preparation
This is probably my favorite white tea from a tea bag. The peach flavour is pleasant, but doesn’t completely overwhelm the tea.
I regularly make a very pleasant ‘iced tea’ by just tossing a bag of this into a water bottle – if you let it ‘cold steep’ for 30m or so, it’s quite yummy.
The last bags of my first box – only one box to go until I’m out of this until next Christmas. I was sad to find that apparently I did miss out on one of the holiday teas, Nutcracker Sweet. I could’ve sworn I bought it, but it’s not in my cupboard. Maybe it will reappear in a strange place.
1 bag left in my first box, and a full second box. Still think that will not be nearly enough to last me until next Christmas. My grocery store, which had a full display a few weeks ago, is down to a few Sugar Plum Spices and Nutcracker Sweets, aka the teas no one likes in the holiday collection. And they weren’t even on deep discount yet! Blergh.
So after reading about this for the last few days on Steepster, I had to stop by the only grocery store anywhere near my neighborhood that was carrying CS’ holiday teas. Unfortunately this is the only one they had (I REALLY wanted Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride), but I’m glad I grabbed the last box – this stuff is delicious. Of course, it’s not extraordinarily refined, but it is sweet and smooth and perfect for mellowing out. Perfect blend of peppermint and vanilla.
I actually really like some CS teas. Tension Tamer and the new Sleepytime Vanilla are tasty and get the job done. And their Sweet Apple Chamomile was one of the first teas I ever fell in love with.
backlogging from yesterday.
I am totally bummed out that this is nearly impossible to come by in my town. I’ve looked all over and the other Celestial Seasoning Holiday Teas are here, but I’m not really a fan of any of the others. I’ve resorted to purchasing a few of these from the website (with high shipping, and a guarantee to just squeak in here before christmas). It’s totally worth it, though. :)
