Mmmmm I didn’t get much tea today – in part from being busy and also from being paranoid about another spill at work lol had this when I got home after walking part way home in a skirt and bare legs lol yeah I’m a dumbass but whatever. The buses were really dragging today so it got me home a good 20 mins earlier and I didn’t have to fight to get on the bus :)
This tea makes me happy…though I think from a pumpkin tea perspective I do like the Della terra a smidge better. But this tea is also different. The spices are wonderfully strong and there’s that burnt brûlée taste that is really interesting.
Mmmm lot of cinnamon in this one so I’m going to have to play with it a bit more but I am digging this for fall. I’d like to try this as a latte too since I think the combination of teh spices would kick some ass.
One of these days I’d like to see Stacy do a caramel something sometif tea lol
Kinda of all over the place here….yes to this tea! It’s a good one :)
Canadians get shafted a lot on deals and contests so I was thinking doing something just for Canadians would be nice. Like maybe free shipping with $20 purchase or something. Still working it out.
Your shipping is already pretty reasonable :) free is always great! But I never feel bad paying your shipping rate 4$ is jokes :)
speaking of maple someone should make a maple sweet potato tea that would be tasty. I don’t think many people realize how good maple and sweet potatoes can be :D
mmm….this is delicious. I have to say, pumpkin isn’t anything that I enjoy. Sacriledge I know but i hate pumpkin pie too lol! However, this tea…this tea is wonderful. I’m going to have to order this for myself I think. I’d love to have this for the fall on thos colder evenings when you can see your breath in the air.
FAKE SIPDOWN! YAAAAY! I relaly should call this ode to Raritea or something lol Inspired by her love for this tea, I pulled out my package of this tea again. I’ve only had one previous cup of this and didn’t love it to death back then but figured i’d check it again in case something had changed.
So officially? This tastes like pistachio and cream….in that it might as well be ice cream. Secondly? I don’t like pistachio ice cream lol but i don’t mind this tea. Why did i buy this from Stacy? because i’m a fan boi and that’s what we do…try everything! No, in all seriousness i wanted to see how i enjoyed this and while i had tried the sample, it wasn’t enough for me to really tell. So i picked up a small package.
Overall? This is still a really tasty tea…but i don’t love this in the way that Raritea does, so this one has her name on it now. You just have to come pick it up! :)
so let me just say, it’s hot! I’m cleaning and the weather here is hot and I’m drinking hot tea all day lol. I must be insane. Nw I am not a fan of pistachio ice cream, but I am a fan of butiki teas! So when indigobloom asked if I wanted to try it I of course said “more tea?! Ok!”
This is not a tea I’d order again but I’m glad for the chance to taste it. I think I have a few friends who would really love it so I’ll be letting them know. I DO however love the smooth taste of this tea and the nutty flavor. It’s not a bad tea – just not one I’d keep regularly in my cupboard since there are so many others I love more :)
Lol gotta be careful when you use that word around here Helena…..in the US rockets are actually smarties….not to be confused with our smarties. ;)
Smarties. Which is why I suspect OUR rockets are called rockets….
OUR smarties aren’t sold in the us….Unless that’s changed recently, pretty sure they wouldn’t do very well either given the monopoly/insanity that is the us and their m&m craze
that’s okay we don’t get the good flavours of Kit-Kat those are reserved for Japan. Japan gets honey flavoured, green tea, cherry blossom etc… shame those Kit-Kats are only in Japan…
Neat! Didn’t know that was the case. In other random flavour news, if you ever go to disney’s epcot (in florida, though i assume they have the same thing in california) there’s coke stand where you can try the different kinds of coke products that are sold/popular in different countries around the world. It’s neat! and free! lol
Well this got oversteeped a bit. While I was steeping this tea the following things happened:
my husband’s jiujitsu buddy came over to train.
the mailman with tea packages
a friend of the husband’s came over to drop off something, we chatted a bit about his work.
So I have no idea how long this got steeped for, 15 minutes? Surprisingly, the flavor is still fine, maybe not as delicate watermelon, with more white tea potency. Now bitterness though, phew. The other day I was sampling a white tea for a blog review, and I’m finding some whites are a little more durable than I previously thought.
Celebration Tea!
So, I moved to the US from Canada in early 2012 on a fiance visa and married to my cute, yet tea hating software engineer husband. I have been stuck in the US waiting for my greencard application to be approved for 10 months on something that should of taken around 4 months, despite me and my immigration lawyer pestering them and about to get our congress person involved.
Finally, I got notice today that I’ve been approved! Yes, now my husband and I can plan our honeymoon since now I can leave the US without any issues!
Time to have my favorite tea! Mmmmm watermelon! I added a little german rock sugar for extra watermelon sweetness! Ohhh yeah! This tea is fantastic! I don’t care that it’s hot tea on a hot summer day. Butiki Tea sale tomorrow too!
Preparation
I’ve been drinking a gyokuro for most of the afternoon for my blog. I made a huge mess! Water and leaves all over the place! It reminds me how back in art school I was always the one who’d get paint, pencil shavings and graphite all over myself. Things never change!
So, I was craving a good white after all that green tea, and I got time to squeeze another cup in before I cut off caffeine for the day, so how about one of my fav teas? Iced of course – it’s 30c here in Long Beach! WTFFFFFF! I know some of you Steepsters still haven’t seen spring yet!
Super yummy! Love the watermelon flavor, so fantastic! Back to working on blog stuff!
Preparation
Doh, I’ve been busy with family stuff, so I’m falling behind in my tea logging. However, I’m crazy enough to write my blog posts in advance.
Watermelon xylophone blog love! http://oolongowl.wordpress.com/2013/01/27/watermelon-xylophone-from-butiki-teas-tea-review/
My roommate that I’ve introduced to tea loves this tea now! He is a watermelon freak and considers half a large watermelon a snack. he resteeped this tea so many times after I went to bed, I’m not sure how well it turned out.
ERRR! I was gonna make this iced, but then added too much hot water in excitement of having this tea. Hot it is then, still delicious, juicy watermelon! YUM!
Blocking the shawl of doom right now, here’s a pic of it I posted on Twitter https://twitter.com/awkwardsoul/status/251725214323445760/photo/1/large
Awkwardsoul, wow that is a beautiful shawl! Do you sell what you knit? and Butiki Teas is one of the next companies I plan on ordering from, though sadly not until after the holidaze craze.
I sell my crocheted cute dolls and patterns I’ve created http://www.etsy.com/shop/AwkwardSoul?ref=si_shop , but no knitted items yet, though hoping to sell knitted hats if I have extra time this year.
Yup, I get my Butiki order today, with 4 new teas + some samples to try and I go drink more Watermelon Xylophone cuz I know I have more!
since I ordered 2 more packs of it!
Very juicy, honey and watermelon taste! Love this tea! YAY!
Preparation
BACKLOGGING MODE!
So, I steeped up a small pot of this to drink while I work on my knitted shawl of doom last night. However, I cheaped out on the leaves so it was a little weak. With less leaves it wasn’t as melony, but still good. Before bed I was planning on drinking out of a huge pile of rooibos teas I haven’t tried and couldn’t bear to toss out WMX’s leaves, so I did a resteep with much less water. Still delicious!
I guess I need to order more, YAY!
I did let the tea hating husband try WMX. He was like “it’s sweet and then it tastes like tea.” thus, he didn’t like it. I’m sad as I thought he’d like this tea (and I’d love to find a tea he likes) but happy at the same time because it’s MOAR TEA FOR MEEEEE!
I must know, what does a “shawl of doom” look like? Bummer about the hubby not liking tea. There has to be something he likes. FYI, WMX is going on sale very soon.
lol, shawl of doom….I had a blanket of doom last year that I made for our good friends’ wedding….but it took FOREVER!
On sale!!! I might have to buy this!
gasp, on sale!! Ooooh! That means I should really try the samples I have from you in case I need to order out of those too!
The shawl of doom is http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cloud-illusions and I thought I could have it done by April for my civil ceremony wedding, but barely got halfway. Now I’m hoping for October for when I have my wedding celebration with family. I’m a fast lace knitter, but this beast of a shawl is taking forever! Dreading when I get to the beading /cry
Love the style. Good luck, I hope you get it done in time for your celebration.
Well, don’t worry the sale will be a month long so you have some time for sample tasting.
ZOMG watermelon tea! I had to order this tea, WMX, despite breaking my 2 week no buy (among other teas from Butiki I wanted to try).
For me, I love fresh watermelon. I discovered from my brazilian jiu jitsu school that it is very easy to make watermelon juice. They sell a special bag that you pour blendered watermelon into to get the juice out (much easier than a strainer). Watermelon juice is the most refreshing drink ever! Best ever was over this summer, my local bulk grocery store was selling watermelons 8lbs for a $1! After buying so much watermelon, I’m still not tired of it, but worried when the season is over.
So far, the only watermelon teas I’ve had, DavidsTea’s Lucious Watermelon, I wasn’t a big fan of for it being tart and being mostly apple chunks.
DRY: Strong watermelonly fruity. Very interesting fuzzy tea leaves and bits of pretty pink (amaranth?)
STEEPED: Steeps up to a light gold colour. Smells just like watermelon juice, freshly extracted. This tea would look very pretty presented in a glass pot or travel mug. It is noted on the packaging of WMX to add sweetener, so I poured half my tea steeped into a small pot with rock sugar so I could try it both ways.
TASTE: Unsweetened, tastes like crisp watermelon (like even that fresh scent of watermelon and all) with a bit of mystery floral in it. The white tea is delicately soft and works well with the watermelon. No bitterness or tartness.
Sweetened with white rock sugar, WMX tastes just like watermelon juice with an amazing honey like sweetness. Much more watermelony sweetened, it’s crazy!
WHO’D LOVE THIS TEA: watermelon lovers – or someone who loves fruit teas. Iced tea peeps should snag this tea too!
COMMENTS: WHOA, whooooa! WMX kinda blew off my pants, um skirt, when it was sweetened. I extracted every drop I could from my little tea pot, WMX is so delicious!
WMX would be killer sweetened and iced. I think my tea hating husband would like this iced. However, I’m not sure if I’d share it or if it would survive long in the fridge for him to get at it.
Very well done Butiki Teas! I have a tea that I will buy again and will be a complete spaz about!
Preparation
This is not the most chocolately flavor but at least it tastes of tea, good tea at that. I think the flavor I imagined of this could only be managed with artificial means so I am content with this one. Rarely do steeped natural additives taste as they would fresh just as you wouldn’t actually taste tobacco in wines purported to have hints of such. Probably won’t replenish after I finish the 2oz. but mostly because there are so many other Butiki teas to sample.
Preparation
Steeped this one up for my mom a few days ago – I think I understeeped, as she said the flavour wasn’t as obvious as the aroma, but it was still ok. I drank the resteep the next day, and it was definitely pineappley, oolong, and delicious. I should really compare it to the Lupicia version, as I seem to quite like that one as well, while the DavidsTea version fell flat.
Preparation
Mmm, I can certainly taste the bao zhong here! DELICIOUS! But the pineapple flavour is unfortunately too light for me to enjoy it as such. I’m getting floral, slightly fruity notes at the end of the sip, which must be the pineapple (along with a bit of aroma). We just had a fresh pineapple for dessert this evening; I should have saved a touch of the juice and infused a bit here!
Either way, I think we should all be thankful that Stacy didn’t decide to put hibiscus in here to make the tea tart!! Hahahahaha.
ETA: Second infusion in half the water (same brewing parameters) is a slightly fruity pouchong. Definitely worth it, but the flavouring is pretty much absent.
Preparation
Haha Sil, but for your rhubarb tea, hibiscus would be appropriate (I thought it was great in DT’s Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait)! Here, however, I think hibiscus would have been a terrible idea, but you know that some blenders would put it in anyways!
Hibiscus is super cheap and pretty heavy but I would be surprised if many companies used it as a filler because it doesn’t take much to go extremely sour. The difference between even 5 grams in a pound of tea can be pretty noticeable.
Indigobloom-Well that would be for it to be noticed. I used 13 grams in your entire tea. I started out with 20 which was way too sour. Those 7 grams made a huge difference. Better fillers would be dried fruits though not freeze-dried (since the kind we use are super expensive and usually add cost) and some nuts would work well as fillers.
