Goodness, this is lovely.

I ordered this a while back after seeing all of the positive reviews. It was expensive, but well worth the price in my opinion.

The vanilla is more subtle than other vanilla teas I’ve had recently, but I quite like that. It’s creamy and kind of sweet with an amazing black tea base. Just what I needed. I’m so glad I decided to give it a try.

The only sad thing is that it’s now 11:30 p.m., so I can’t drink more without worrying that the caffeine will keep me up. I’m sure I’ll have several more cups tomorrow.

Day 4 of flu-pocalypse. My voice is starting to come back, but I still feel like garbage. Luckily I have plenty of tea at the moment to soothe my throat.

I normally like this one iced, but I’ve been enjoying it hot lately. To me, at least in my stuffed-up state, it tastes mostly like blackberries and hibiscus. There was no recognizable mint or green tea to speak of. Still, it was nice. I’ve been gravitating to more strongly citrus teas for the last while, simply because I can’t taste much else. I may also be a bit biased because I’m generally not a fan of strongly minty teas.

This is just what I need today.

The scent of this tea is so relaxing I feel as though I should be drinking it at a fancy spa between pampering treatments. Either that, or it should be cold brewed and in my water bottle as I hike along secluded trails in the mountains. I love jasmine teas, and this is no exception. It’s not so strongly floral as to be overpowering, and the green tea base is both refreshing and smooth. It’s also beautiful to watch the pearls unfold as they steep. It’s not an everyday tea for me, but it sure does the trick when I’m in the mood for something that feels refreshing and rejuvenating.

I really don’t have anything negative to say. This is my favourite green tea as of late.

I really love their Jasmine Phoenix pearls. I don’t drink it often, but when I do it’s sooo good. I might need to check this one out next time.

Kristal

I really want to try this tea too. Have you ever tried butterfly jasmine? Expensive but amazing.

rosebudmelissa

No, I haven’t. What’s it like?

Kristal

Light green tea with a more prominent jasmine flavour. The tea is hand rolled into little “butterflies” that slowly unravel with each steep. It’s really beautiful and a true pleasure to drink.

rosebudmelissa

Sounds delicious!

M

All of those sound wonderful. I love jasmine green teas.

I was surprised by the number of negative reviews on this one. I quite like it. It’s strong and fruity and full of hibiscus, sure. But I find it to have just the right amount of tart and sweetness that I really enjoy drinking it. On days when the strong flavour doesn’t appeal to me, I mix a bit of this with some Dragon Pearls or straight rooibos to tone it down.

Maybe my attachment to this tea is a sentimental one. It tastes almost exactly like the first loose leaf tea I ever fell in love with, which was Apple Cinnamon from Teaopia. I was sad when the company was bought out by Teavana and my favourite herbal tea discontinued, so it’s nice to find a replacement.

I wouldn’t drink this tea every day, but it’s a great treat on days when I’d otherwise calm mu sugar cravings by eating a bunch of candy.

To be honest, this stuff tastes terrible. The mix of orange peel and mint reminds me alternately of medicine and a big cup of juice directly after brushing my teeth.

But I’m just so sick today. For some reason, this god-awful concoction does soothe my throat enough that I’ll keep drinking it. For that reason I’ll give it a solid 50. Not something I would ever drink under regular circumstances, but good for those days when I’m an aching, shivering mess with no voice.

Thank you! With enough tea I’m sure it’ll all be better soon.

drank JavaVana Mate by Teavana

I grabbed a cup of this on my way out of the mall because I needed to wake my brain up.

Dry leaf smell: almost exactly like a Tootsie Pop tastes! Delicious!

Brewed taste: Tootsie Pops! …and dirt. It was odd for a tea to be so sweet and yet have such a strongly bitter aftertaste. I’ll admit that I’m not sure I steeped it for the exactly correct amount of time (I roughly estimated five minutes as I walked to my car), but I’ve never had a mate taste quite like that. I could definitely detect the coffee beans, but the bitter aftertaste was not that of coffee. It was something else completely.

Overall, meh. It was drinkable, but not my favourite.

I did however determine once again that my local Teavana doesn’t seem to take part in the sketchy business practices I’ve read so much about here on Steepster. They offered help while I was browsing, but had no issues with only selling me the hot cup of tea that I wanted. It was a perfectly pleasant experience no different from any other store at the mall. So that’s nice. I wonder if some of the negative things I’ve read are about American policies that don’t apply to the Canadian stores. Or maybe my local store is just the exception to the rule. Either way, it’s nice.

Flavors: Cherry, Chocolate, Coffee, Dirt, Sugar, Sweet

“Brewed taste: Tootsie Pops! …and dirt.” I love that!

The Teavanas I’ve been to here in Winnipeg have also been good on customer service that isn’t pushy or deceptive.

M

I’m glad that there seem to be exceptions to the rule I’ve been reading about. I hope it stays that way.

I think once Starbucks took over the company they eased up on the pushy sales tactics. I haven’t experienced it down here at all.

And my fixation on lightly flavoured black tea continues…

This one is really nice, actually. It’s been keeping me company on a day when I’ve been trying very hard to stay focused on studying. The caffeine is also appreciated. When I first smelled it, I worried that it would end up being too strongly floral for my liking, but the base tea is quite strong. and the fruit adds a nice sweetness. I bet this one would be fantastic iced.

I didn’t add anything to this one, but I’m curious as to what it would taste like with a bit of rock sugar. I may just do that on my next steep.

drank Organic Blueberry Jam by DAVIDsTEA

Now HERE is a tea I can drink all day long without getting the least bit tired of it. Or at least that’s how I feel right now as I drink my first ever cup. I’m so glad that I discovered Steepster in recent weeks and have started reading reviews before committing to 100g+ of a tea just because it smells nice. I probably would have passed this one up for Cool Cactus, had I not read the reviews and been pointed in the opposite direction.

I’ve always considered myself a green tea kind of gal, but recently I’ve been developing a love affair with flavoured black teas and straight oolongs. Lately I’ve found myself in need of some soothing comfort, rather than the invigorating crispness all my favourite green teas provide. It kind of makes me wonder if my preferences will switch back once summer makes an appearance again. Either way, I’ve enjoyed refining my tastes (not to mention making new discoveries) while working to decrease my absurdly large tea collection.

I’m glad I decided to buy a small sample of this. I came home with 25g , but will be buying more the next time I stop by the store. The base tea is soothing and in no way bitter. I also find that the berries add just enough sweetness to hold my interest without seeming too candy-like to drink in the morning. I don’t usually add anything to my tea, but I feel that this one is particularly well-balanced on its own. This is definitely my kind of blend.

drank Cherry Blossom by DAVIDsTEA

Okay, has anyone else tried this and been immediately reminded of that pink cherry flavoured Trident gum? I haven’t had it since I was a kid, but one sip of this tea brought me right back to my childhood.

First of all, this tea is beautiful. (http://instagram.com/p/yqOY1IP8CZ/?modal=true).

I also thought it was pretty delicious. The cherry flavour (which appears to be natural due to the presence of dried whole cherries) is very strong. So much so that even though it was a great treat, I’m not sure if I’d choose this tea on a regular basis. However, I could definitely appreciate the light floral notes as well as the slight creaminess added by the coconut. Overall, it’s quite sweet, so I imagine that opinions will vary widely depending on whether you’re a fan of sweet teas and cherries. I can’t say much about the base tea, because the cherry was so overpowering it may just as well have been herbal. I probably would have enjoyed it more with a grassier green tea base, but that’s just me.

I thought it was quite pleasant. Not run-out-and-buy-more pleasant, but I’ll definitely enjoy finishing what’s left of my little heart-shaped tin.

To me, this tastes like melted down cherry candy canes. Except I hate those and love this tea… strange, haha.

M

That is strange! I’m not usually a fan of cherry flavoured things either, actually.

Just want to reiterate how much I love this tea. I’m going through it at an alarming rate.

Guess I’ll have to make a trip to Banff sometime in the near future to restock. How terrible… ;)

you can order online haha though i’d rather go there too!

M

This is true! Though I definitely plan on using it as an excuse to spend a day in the mountains.

Fjellrev

Maybe I’ll actually buy something next time I’m there rather than continuously passing it up. The glass jars always turned me off.

M

I definitely plan on trying more of what they have to offer. I’m curious now!

Mikumofu

I’ve been discovering that it’s a great lesser-known tea company/shop. But I noticed that some of their teas are listed on the site under “The Banff Tea Co” and some under “Banff Tea Co”…maybe someone with the time could unify them :o

Profile

Bio

Tea enthusiast still figuring out this Steepster thing. My collection is ever-growing.

I almost always like: Vanilla, chai, caramel, berries, lemon, hibiscus, jasmine, cinnamon, ginger, earl grey, peach, lavender.

I rarely like: Mint, chamomile, rice (not a genmaicha fan), licorice, nuts, milk, artificial sweeteners.

When it comes to straight teas, I’ve liked basically everything – black, green, white, rooibos, mate, guayusa, oolong, pu-erh and yellow teas are what I have explored so far.
