This tea is pretty good, and for the price they have it, it’s a steal. Aroma of the leaves definitely was honey-esque. Throughout the session I got floral and honey notes, with a bit of fruitiness in some of the later steeps (and it wasn’t particularly strong or noticeable). Reminds me a bit of mead. The body was relatively thick, but not “creamy” feeling so much. At least not as much as Jin Xuan oolongs.

Really enjoyed this tea. Crisp and sweet sugarcane flavor with floral accents in the early steeps. A few steeps in and the crispness dissipated some while the floral flavors became more prominent. Interestingly, after a couple more steeps, the sugarcane flavor came back, but without the sharper crisp feeling. Final couple steeps were lightly sweet and floral. Body was excellent and creamy throughout the session. Beautifully sweet tea, this.

What’s the website address? I’m shopping for oolongs currently…

Daylon, IDES is out of business. It was a kind of weird thing – dude popped up on reddit giving away lots of free samples and then had a teaclub where you could get like 75% off for the first month, allowing many ppl (myself included) to get around 250g of pretty nice oolong for about $15 shipped. Then he just disappeared shortly after.

Looks like I need to join the reddit group to get myself some oolong. If there is any available from another vendor.

Matu

Maybe lol. I don’t really go on /r/tea too often anymore, but there are random companies that decide to give away tea at times. Haven’t seen anything like IDES since then tho.

Better with 7g. Very intense flavor, especially on first few steeps. Oversteep by even a couple seconds and you’re getting punched in the face with some heavy bitterness. After a bit, the bitterness dies down and is replaced with a more mellow and sweet grassy/floral flavor. Even then, you can still taste a bit of pungent bitterness in this tea.

I bought this tea because I liked the 2009 version with the identical looking box. This one is decent, but I do prefer the 2009. 2010’s brick is a little less sweet, has a bit less body to it. It also gives out sooner. Woody flavors expected from a ripe puerh are present, and it develops a sourness which I find slightly off-putting if oversteeped. Once the tea starts to give out, a distinct metallic flavor is noticed. Pretty decent, but as I said, I prefer the 2009. Not sure if that’s due to the one year difference (I doubt it) or if they just have different material. Oh, and the 2009 is so much easier to break apart. I believe the proper tool for breaking apart this 2010 brick would be a hammer and chisel…holy crap, tea dust and frag everywhere.

Enjoyed my first session with this one. Early steeps were floral and decently sweet. The floral notes were more green than many other oolongs, so kind of like flower stems I suppose. The sweetness faded in mid-late steeps and the tea possessed more of a vegetal quality, though it maintained a nice and thick body throughout the session. After the initial sweet steeps, this tea had a touch of bitterness to it, but not of an unpleasant or tannic character.

Very good Jin Xuan Oolong. Flavor was milky, creamy, and floral throughout 9+ steeps with only 3g of tea gongfu style. Didn’t get the fruity notes which sometimes come from Jin Xuan teas at all, but that was just fine, as this tea was wonderful in body and flavor for the entire session, and I probably could have gotten a few more long steeps out of it, but ran out of water lol.

Quite a bitter tea, especially in the early steeps. I found that even using 3.5g leaves and 190 degree water, I was skirting the border of it being too bitter in the early steeps. The flavor is grassy throughout, but about 6-7 steeps in, the bitterness drops off and is replaced with a nice brown sugar sweetness, though it certainly takes a while to get to it. I’ll keep experimenting with the rest of my sample to see what I can do to make it better.

The flavor of this tea is very surprising, as I didn’t note the main notes in the aroma. It has wonderful crisp sweetness, which reminds me a lot of champagne. The height of this flavor fades in later steeps to a more mellow floral/honey sweetness. Occasional notes of the roast come through in the aroma and early steeps. A very pleasureable and resteepeable tea.

Has notes of honey in early steeps and a pleasant smoothness throughout. I found this guy a little too finicky, as overbrewing it led to an unpleasant (to me anyways) level of smokiness. Aroma was much smokier than the flavor however. Flavor lasted quite a long time, mostly with honey and some floral aspects, though in later steeps it also developed a mineral, almost salty taste.

After a couple sessions with it, I think this tea is ok, but perhaps a bit too smoky for me. Took some effort for me to get past that taste, and once I did, I appreciated the sweeter, floral aspects, but wouldn’t want to have a whole ton of this tea.

My first milk oolong, and I certainly enjoyed it :) Definitely do notice the milky taste/texture. Also get tropical notes. Maybe banana (not acidic enough to be pineapple, and I don’t really know the exact tastes of most other tropical fruits). In later steeps it became more floral and even a bit grassy.

I enjoy many things aside from tea, including gaming, mixing cocktails, reading, watching anime, and painting miniatures.

My favorite type of tea is sheng puerh. Particularly younger stuff, if only because I haven’t gotten the chance to taste much of anything aged. I also really like oolong (Taiwanese, Wuyi, Dancong, etc.) and Japanese Green Teas. I do also enjoy most other kinds of tea, but they aren’t what I normally buy. I’m not a huge fan of shou puerh, black tea, or flavored blends, with few exceptions.

I really like interacting with the tea community, so if you ever want to talk or swap teas or anything, feel free to shoot me a message or something. Follow me and I’ll follow you back. Probably ;)
