139 Tasting Notes
I got this one from madametj who first reviewed this tea. It’s pretty bad. I drank maybe 4 ounces of it. I’ll probably just toss it.
So far I’ve been spoiled with tasting only good shou. Good to learn that there is bad stuff out there and to experience them, which makes me appreciate the good stuff even more.
This is probably the coolest tea (and one of my favorites) that I have ever acquired. Inspired by a birthday—that’s cool. The liqueur is a turquoise, lavender—that’s cool. The taste is really funky, and I like that. It’s citrussy—like Citrus Party Oolong—but much smoother and tastier. I haven’t cold steeped it yet, but I will in the warmer months.
Out of the 10 or so LP teas that I have this was the first one I tried for the second time. This interesting tea called out my name. I answered that call: Yes, I will drink you. Yes, I will resteep you. But…I will have to throw you away. BUT BUT I will drink you again.
See the effects of this tea on me?! It’s insanity!!! : )
I think the other reviews gave good descriptions of this tea, so I’ll be brief.
What makes a good flavored tea is a good base. The good flavored teas that I have had have good bases, and the bad ones have bad base teas. Oolberry has a nice, floral oolong base and a nice light flavoring.
I store this one in the bamboo fundraising container. Good combination. I’m curious what the oolong is in this one. It tastes similar to the Golden Lilly by BTT that I got from a stash tea sale from LP.
I’m not usually one to add sweetener to teas, but I wasn’t feeling this one on its own. I added 4 drops of stevia to each 8 oz cup of this and it made it taste significantly better—like a juice.
On its own, I’d rate the tea a 70, but with stevia it’s like a 90, so I split the difference.
I will say ( like all of the LP teas I’ve tried), I got 4-5 good steeps out of this. I’ve never had any other flavored teas last more than 2.
Thanks for letting me try this one, Andrew!
Thanks for this sample, Andrew!
I have never had a white puerh before, and I really enjoyed this. It’s very smooth.
I’m not getting a ton of fruit flavor, but it’s just enough. It’s a very forgiving tea. I went away for a while (10-15 minutes), came back and added a little more water and it was delicious.
This is a interesting tea. I have never had honeybush before, so I can’t say I know what it tastes like, but I think I at least could find myself tasting it.
I gave this a nice rinse—probably 45 seconds.
The first steep was very good. I did about a 15 second steep. There was no fermentation flavor in here. It was slightly sweet, and has that candy flavor as named. There was a hint of chocolate.
Second steep: i found myself wanting some vanilla, so I added some to it, and this was a nice addition. I liked this steep a bit better.
I really enjoyed the blend. The puer was there, but not overpowering like it easily could be. It really let the other ingredients come out.
Anyone out there reading this, adding some vanilla was a good idea. I think I’ll try blending this with the Peppermint Nom Nom. That’d be a solid combo.
This tea could not be better than it is right now. It’s a warm (30 degrees) windy winter day here in Minnesota. I warmed up a cup I had made of this a few days ago before I ventured out for a walk after listening to some Bear’s Den music.
I came home, ate a piece of ma’s meatloaf, sat down, and drank this divine liquid. I love it when food pairs with tea. I sat in the rocker for about 30 minutes just listening to the dance of the air and snow particles.
This tea has notes of cocoa and minerals. It is sweet and earthy.
I’ll be honest. I can’t drink shou everyday. It’s like chocolate cake to me. I can have it once or twice a week. It’s rich and is a lot to take in.
I’ll enjoy the last 8 ounces of this while listening to Winter Winds by Mumford and Sons. Simply having a beautiful moment right now. Super grateful. Thank you for this sample, Brenden!
Flavors: Clay, Cocoa, Earth, Mineral
I was in the mood for something sweet and I found this. Thanks LP for this large sample! I’m grateful to try your interesting blends!
I did 195 for about a minute, which made a really good cup of this. I have never had mate on its own and don’t know what it tastes like.
My mom bought me around a pound of Marshmallow Macoron from Teavana about a year ago. I still have about a pound left if that says anything about the tea. Mate Nectar is what I wish the Macoron tea tasted like. They’re similar for sure, but this MN definitely tastes way more natural.
I can taste all of the flavors. It’s a well balanced tea. My sister is enjoying it right now too.
