521 Tasting Notes
I am back from another vacation :) This time I was in Washington D.C. and of course I must stop for Tea. I’ve been wanting to try this tea house out for awhile. I will post a review in the Discover/Explore section.
I couldn’t decide on a brew, so my friend just picked two closely related blacks and we sampled both. This was the one I chose. This comes in a very generous amount. The liquor is a deep chocolate crismon soup. The aroma is of dry cocoa and malt. The flavor is a deep coco tone and smooth. It tasted similar to a decent quality Jin Jui Mei. The last sip finished with a silky caramel tone. I really did like this tea, but it was on the pricey side. I know of other businesses where I can get much higher quality for about half the price. I believe the price was for the experience of drinking tea within sight of the Capital.

This was the first tea I purchased while on vacation in PHX. My friend took me to the art district in Phoenix for some lunch. We stopped at a restaurant named Jobahn. I saw the word “desert” and knew that I had to try it. The tea was slightly weak but still very tasty. It carried a warm citrus tone and finished with a green fruity tone. The aroma was what made it enticing. It was a sweet nectar scent with a fruit garden undertone. I love vacation tea!

I had this while on vacation in Sedona, Arizona. I stopped for lunch at this beautiful indian gardens restaurant. The atmosphere was spectacular. The table was surrounded by Ivy and wild flowers and Navajo woven blankets covered the chairs. It was good to be back home. I always ask the staff what they recommend for tea, so that I don’t have to make a decision, hahah. The young man behind the counter said that this was by far his favorite. He brewed me a generous and amount and gave me some desert honey to throw in it. The taste was perfect. It had a smooth vanilla base with a tinge of tobacco. The cardamon added a dessert spice and complimented the pepper flavor. The honey encapsulated the entire brew and caused for an enjoyable experience by the red rocks on a brisk day. This was a memorable brew for me :)

My first cup back home from vacation. My friend did not enjoy this, so he gave me a pouch full.
This tea is a vibrant green with the classic small rice pebbles scattered about. I enjoyed it quite it bit. It has smooth wooded roast flavor and of course smells of rice cakes. This snack taste is covered with a vegetal umami and goes down very smoothly. Its nice to actually sit and brew a cup to enjoy, but I do miss being away from home.
Flavors: Rice, Roasted, Umami, Vegetal

Holy Shiitake that has sooo many reviews hahah! I had no idea this was so popular.
Anyways unto the review. This was by far the best 5 dollars I’ve spent. This was the first I sampled from their tea box. This was delicious! I paired this with some belgian chocolate and it was perfect. The small ebony curls carry a smoked scent and char. I brewed them in my gaiwan. I washed once and allowed them to breathe. The aroma was amazing! It was of a dark currant, burnt sugar, and raisins. The flavor was incredibly bold. It was a deep malt with raspberry chocolate. The steeped leaves were mostly full and unfurled to long beautiful strands. I absolutely love this tea and will be stocking up!

I bought a four pack of random blooming teas online. Today I decided to bust one out for Easter. The sad part is they don’t tell you what the tea is. Its completely unlabeled. I popped a random ball into my glassware and brewed. This one was beautiful. It was silver needle, amaranth, and some yellow flower strands. Sadly, I realized I need a larger glass tea pot. This blooming tea wasn’t able to fully bloom, so I will need to get one with a larger capacity. The flavor was incredibly smooth and almost brandy tasting. The floral tone became sweet and slightly menthol. The aroma was amazing. My tea room was filled with a honey caramel scent. I really enjoyed this, but I will wait until I get a larger teapot to brew more. This tea session definitely made up for this morning.

This is a very inexpensive crowd pleaser. It is a simple flowering tea. This brew tastes great and steeps very well. The bloom is mostly BOP which is disappointing, but its centered by a vibrant amaranth. The taste is honey smooth and incredibly floral. I like this a lot and will continue to keep it stocked. I am always a fan of tea with jasmine.

Good morning and Happy Easter! I had a very late night, so I sleepily picked something easy and strong. This is the first black tea that I picked up. I really did not like this. The liquor had a very nice golden color. The aroma was mostly malt and with a slight woodsy tone. The flavor, however, was very bland. I used quite a bit of tea leaves, yet the flavor never really sank in. By the end of my pot the taste had become bitter and astringent. I will definitely be doing another tea session today to make up for this one.
Flavors: Bitter, Malt, Wood
Preparation
I dont have to much to say on this. This was a very generic TGY (TKY?). It had a slightly floral flavor covered by a sweet vegetal tone. The brew carries a slightly bitter aftertaste. I noticed that this tea consisted of mostly BOP which is kinda disappointing in an oolong. This carries the price of a decent treat oolong, but the quality of an everyday oolong. My view of "chain’ tea shoppes is still consistent. I don’t go to chains unless I want artificial tea. The natural teas always fall short.
Flavors: Floral, Hay, Sweet

I’m surprised that this tea was not in the database. This was a wonderful brew. I’m not completely sure on where I got this tea, but nethertheless it was awesome! The tea resembles small tendrils of smoke with bits of gold scattered about the mist. It carries a strong note of roast, black currant, and plum. I brewed these in my gaiwan. I washed them once to allow them to breathe and these small tendrils released quite the aroma. My tea room was filled with deep dark plums and a roasted chestnut scent. The flavor was somewhat different. The initial sip was bold and with a strong malt. This flavor began to fade with later steepings and it was replaced by a brown sugar taste. The whole brew is encaptured with an autumn vineyard flavor. This was a delicious tea session and I must definitely will be getting more of this.
