1202 Tasting Notes
It’s times like this that I think Puer isn’t for me. I like it on occasion, but it’s not something I’m super into. Most puer makes me think of a wet cave… in a good way. The flavors of this are pretty mellow and it’s nice, but it doesn’t excite me the way other types of tea do. I feel like there is a whole section of tea enjoyment I’m missing out on!
I feel like I’ve had this tea before. There is another with similar ingredients that I usually keep stocked, this one replacing the turmeric with sage. Ginger is dominant. The orange comes up behind in the sip and sage shows up in the finish. It’s nice, but I have enough of the other tea that I don’t feel this fills a niche in my cupboard.
Preparation
I like the cardamon. The usual cardamon bite is mellowed out by the vanilla. The green base seems really light to me. I’m used to black tea leaving me with a sense of fullness that I’m not getting with most greens and it leaves me unsatisfied. Glad I tried this, but won’t reorder.
Preparation
Got this tea as a holiday gift! I had seen Fox and Moon vending at a local arts market, but since there was no way to smell the packaged tea and get an idea of the quality, I passed on a purchase. The back of the package has suggestions for what type of material you should steep each tea in, which I haven’t encountered with any other tea before. I think the suggestion for this tea was glass, but I used my routine steeping basket instead.
The pearls are slightly bigger than other jasmine pearls I have had. They unfurl fully when in the steeper basket. The tea has a slight sweetness to it. The jasmine flavor is clear and crisp, but I’d say it was a medium on strength. I’ve had stronger jasmines in the past and I love a strong jasmine. This is a nice tea, but it isn’t standing out for me against other jasmines I’ve drank.
Preparation
Went into Artful Tea on a trip to Santa Fe and picked up a few samples. This has a strong pu erh scent that translates into a light flavor in comparison. Pu Erh earthiness is dominant in the sip with caramel notes coming out in the finish. It’s okay, but the flavors are more subtle than I like for something with caramel in the name.
Preparation
Advent day 20. This smells so yummy and almondy, but also screams hibiscus. I decided against pitching it out and tried cold steeping it instead. It was fun watching the red hib death emit slow red curls into the cup until the whole cup looked like a shark attack. I tasted it, expecting to hate it, but that hate never came. I don’t exactly like it, but whatever hot water does to turn hibiscus into a gross bitter iron flavored mess didn’t happen full force in the cooler water. I get a tart apple with cranberry and almond. I almost like it!
Advent day 18. Not bad for a rooibos. There is a nice sweetened spiced apple flavor. The apple is prominent in the sip, then changes to the scent of a red apple a bit more in the finish where the cinnamon and caramel come out. I’d drink this again.
Preparation
Advent day 19. Who is Gwendalina and what’s up with her baked apple? There is another tea company that has a tea under the same name. Huh. I feel like I may have steeped this at too high of a temp. The apple was subtle for most of the cup and came out more as the cup cooled. It was an okay cup.
Preparation
Advent day 18. Took a few sips before adding cream and honey and was greeted with a concentrated brew with spices. After adding to my cup I get a deep tea taste with a mixture of spices on top. The spices are blended so well that I can’t really pick them out individually. It’s a warm and comforting cup, but I feel so so about it in general.

I hear you on this. I can appreciate pu’erh sometimes when I’m in the right mood, but it does not get me the same way basically any other tea (camellia sinensis-based) does.
I struggle with oolongs in a similar way, but not to the extent of puers. :/
