Ooooo! I’m kinda liking this! I’m not a huge fan of rooibos, but there isn’t much of that flavor coming through. I’m getting a strong creamy orange with a touch of ginger behind it. It’s ever so slightly sweet, but like the other DDB blends I’m not able to link it to maple in my brain. I also don’t quite get the shortbread part. There is a touch of tartness in the finish that is just distracting enough to make me want to take another sip. I bet this would be good with some creamer, but I’m enjoying it enough as it is. I purchased this tea a couple weeks ago, but don’t see any info for it on their site now. :/ It’s supposed to be a lapsang/chili mix. I love the name. It’s definitely lapsang, but I’m left waiting in vain for any bang. It’s just a nice lapsang with no chili in sight. I feel chili cheated!

Hmmm… I’m getting the same strange flavors that I did with DDB’s other EG that I tried. I can smell it, it’s a sharp and bright and comes out in the flavor. It’s less ginseng than the other EG. It’s mellowed out with the addition of cream, but that also kills the rest of the flavors for me. I did not get any cakey flavors though. Not a huge fan of this one, but I super appreciate the chance to try it. Thanks VariaTEA!

Another sampling from VariaTEA! Hmmmm…. strange. I get vanilla and some coconut creaminess. Something a little sweet at the start of the sip that I’m guessing could be cinnamon. The tea base adds depth. The scent has a deep perfume feel to it, almost a hint of honey. The large part of the sip is a little dull, but those notes come back out in the finish. Adding some creamer to the last half of the cup, which brings out the vanilla. I tried steeping this for 2 minutes, but it tasted a bit weak so I put the basket back in for another minute. I could easily sip the rest of this mindlessly while I work to struggle integrating my Square account to my website. I do so hate the tech part of artist life. Need more tea!

Taking the advice written on this sample from VariaTEA to have this as an iced latte and it feels like the right choice. I get a bit of the rooibos, but it’s toned down more than if it was hot. I think I get more mint than chocolate, but I get a little chocolate too. It’s an interesting mix of mints. I can pick them out individually, but they also melt together well. I’d love to see DDB do this on a black base!

The first few sips of this took some getting used to. Sometimes when I start a cup of tea it take a few sips to get into it and used to the flavors. Same with wine. Once I get over that I notice a slightly malty flavor and creamy coconut with a little sweetness to it. I’m having a hard time getting maple though. The flavor seems pretty subtle. I feel like it smells more custardy than it tastes. I’ll have to try the next cup cold steeped.

I can’t read the name of this tea and not get The Clash song of the same name stuck in my head, so for the last 30m or so that is what my internal radio has been playing. The base of this tea is kind of malty. I also get… green beans?! Strange. The berg was more prominent when the cup was hot and is harder to find under the other flavors now that it has chilled. There is something a little sharp on the tip of my tongue at the beginning of the sip and reappears in the finish. I’m not sure what to make of this tea, but I’m off to listen to The Clash now!

I’m always a sucker for a Hojicha. It has such a warming flavor that pairs well with cinnamon. I can taste other flavors, which I’m guessing is the raisin. It does have a sort of baked flavor about it and reminds me of a Lupicia tea I have that has apricot and cinnamon. It’s good and might be something I’d consider ordering if I didn’t already have a similar tea. It’s nice to see teas other than the standard green or black being used in a blend!

I like this one better than the other DBB lemon tea. It has a nice malty base, but that is the most prominent flavor. I get some coconut that makes it creamy, but I’m not getting much lemon. The coconut is harder to pick out once the cup cools. This tea doesn’t make me think lemon coconut pie.
