This tea was strong with a bitter character in the beginning. Over the course of twelve steeps it evolved into something nice, you might even say it had a apricot like sweetness in later steeps. But that is open to interpretation. In any case it was good.

I steeped this tea twelve times in a 150ml gaiwan with 8.5g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1min, 1.5 min, and 2 min.

This is a fairly nice raw with a bit more age on it than I expected. The tea liquid was a solid orange color and it had some decidedly aged notes to it, leather and tobacco for the first six steeps. It gradually evolved into something sweeter. I am not really sure what to call the sweet note but chestnuts came to mind. That however may not be an accurate description, just what came to mind. I steeped it for twelve steeps and it would have gone a few more had I the desire to keep going. This was a good tea but not a spectacular tea.

I steeped this twelve times in a 150ml gaiwan with 9.4g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 min.

Bought this in store a while back and never tried it. It’s not bad. Taastes a bit like almonds and honey to me.

Another hiccup from Steepster to review this tea. Steepster automatically logged me out ands asked for my password which I do not remember. So I went to another page where I was logged in and brought up this tea. This is one I bought and finished before I was brewing gongfu and before I was on Steepster basically.

This tea is very nice. I was not paying attention to the specifics but it had a sweet note from the beginning with little bitterness. It had some fermentation flavor but not a lot. When I saw Puerhshop had restocked on this tea I bought another. I think Yunnan Sourcing used to sell this tea too but called it the Haiwan Peerless. I still have some of that.

I steeped this twelve times in a 160ml solid silver teapot with 14.3g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 minutes. Could have gotten a few more steeps out of it but I had had enough at twelve steeps from a 160ml teapot.

This tea is a very nice ripe of the sort you expect from the Menghai Tea Factory. There was very little bitterness and a fair amount of fermentation initially along with a sweet note. You could say it was dark and rich in the early infusions. The fermentation taste was a factor until about the sixth steep. I really wasn’t paying attention to the specifics so I will just say this was an excellent puerh for a reasonable price. Yunnan Sourcing only gets $17 for this and it is definitely worth the price and more. It does need more time to clear a bit but I think in another year or two this will be really good. Of course by then Yunnan Sourcing will have raised the price.

I steeped this tea 12 times in a 150ml gaiwan with 10.3g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 min. Could have gotten a couple more steeps out of the leaf but twelve was enough.

This is a nice sheng. Sweet from the beginning with little bitterness and some astringency. The tea had a darker color than you would expect for a new sheng. It had a nice taste to it including a positive flavor note I failed to pick up on specifically.

I steeped this tea eight times in a 150ml gaiwan with 9.1g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, and 30 sec. Overall this tea was quite good. I could have kept steeping it but want to drink something else.

This blend is strong and slightly bitter. As I understand it the traditional way to prepare this is with a lump of rock sugar and a dab of heavy cream. I didn’t have either of those handy so it got prepared the same way I prepare western brewed black teas boiling water and sugar. I hope this tea has enough caffeine to keep me going when I have the late shift at work today.

I brewed this one time in a 16oz Teavana Perfect Tea Mker/Gravity Steeper with 3 tsp leaf and boiling water for 3 minutes.

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 0 sec 3 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML

With a healthy dose of cream and sugar, frisian blends are like drinking a chocolate muffin. And the caffeine kick can be pretty strong to.

This tea is also very yummy with double or triple thickness cream and, following tradition, a lump of rock sugar.

This tea didn’t have a name in a traditional sense so I used the description as a name to add it to the database. The name may look spam like but it is not. It is a cheap ripe sold in 100g cakes by Han Ecological Tea Group on Aliexpress. They didn’t give a year specifically either but a range of one to three years for age so I just guessed this was a 2016 tea. I only paid $7.46 each for these, now it has gone up somewhat in price. This turned out to be a nice tea. It had a fair amount of fermentation flavor but that flavor was neither unpleasant or fishy. It had a sweet note from the start with virtually no bitterness. Overall it was a very nice tea. I am not sure how to characterize the sweet notes in this so I won’t try. Didn’t notice any chocolate notes but then again I wasn’t really paying attention. The taste of this tea was a pleasant surprise to say the least.

I steeped this tea twelve times in a 160ml Ru Kiln Shui Ping teapot with 11g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 min.

This tea is neither terrible nor fantastic but somewhere in the middle. It had a fairly strong aged taste of what I guess you would call tobacco and leather. Over ten steeps this slowly went away and I was left with something else, not sure if I would call it sweet but it certainly was not bitter. I think this tea is just on the verge of becoming a truly aged tea. We will see what it evolves into.

I steeped this ten times in a 160ml gaiwan with 9g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec. and 1 minute.

This was a nice ripe puerh. It was neither spectacular or bad just about above average for a ripe puerh I would say. It had a lot of fermentation flavor to it. Those with an aversion to fermentation taste probably want to avoid it. It was strong until the sixth steep and to some degree present even in the tenth steep. There were little in the way of bitter notes to this tea, it had a sweet note from the beginning. I wasn’t really paying attention to the specifics just say it is worth the price. At $10 what do you have to lose. It was in my opinion as good as some shous I have paid much more for.

I steeped this twelve times in a 150ml gaiwan with 9.7g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min, 1.5 min, and 2 min.

I am Allan. I live and work in Long Island, New York. I have been amassing a tea collection for nearly two years and have spent way too much money. I now try to buy mostly Puerh as I like it most and it lasts nearly forever. Black tea has a habit of going bad. If anyone is interested in tea swaps I am open to ideas and have quite a cupboard.
