This is my first foray into Chrysanthemum Tea so I’m not sure where to start. It was very strong, a little too strong but not bitter. It was in a way earthy, but nothing like the way ripe puerh is earthy. I was only guessing on the correct amount of Chrysanthemum flowers to use. Next time I try this I will use half as much in the way of Chrysanthemum. It was very flavorful, I will say that. I don’t think I would want to drink this everyday although a friend of mine at work loves the stuff, he is Chinese. I added a small amount of sugar to cut the flavor down a notch or two. I will go through the flavor list and see if any other than the obvious fit.

I brewed this once in a 1.5 liter teapot with 7.5g Chrysanthemum Flower and boiling water for 3 min.

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 0 sec 7 g 51 OZ / 1500 ML

Sounds interesting. I think I have some tea like this that I haven’t even tried yet. I’ll have to dig it out!

I bought it originally to add to ripe puerh but broke it out today because it is caffeine free. After tomorrow my three days of 5am will be over for a while and I can go back to puerh. It was good I just don’t know how to describe it. It’s not expensive.

Maybe I am building up a caffeine tolerance. I pu’erh into the evening and haven’t had any adverse sleeping effects.

Thanks for reminding me that I have yet to try the chrysanthemum blossoms I got from Mighty Leaf a while back…

This tea is not half bad for a decaf, pretty bad when compared to regular green tea. I am avoiding caffeine tonight and chose this one. It has a vegetal taste which I don’t mind and a fairly sour aftertaste which I do mind. This is not one I would recommend, unless you are really looking for decaf green tea. There just aren’t that many available from decent tea vendors and Simpson and Vail is excellent.

I think I would like to try this with a 1 min steep time and see if the sour flavor goes away.

I steeped this once in an 18oz teapot for 2 min with 175 degree water and 3 tsp of leaf.

Flavors: Vegetal

Preparation
175 °F / 79 °C 2 min, 0 sec 3 tsp 18 OZ / 532 ML

I rebrewed this tea with fresh leaves for 45 sec and with 2.5 tsp of leaf and the sour taste is almost gone. Much better.

This is a tasty blend of jackfruit, apricot and mango flavors. It is slightly astringent as many of Simpson and Vail teas are. I brewed this in a large iced tea pot and put it in a thermos to bring to work. There is just a small amount of bitterness as well. It is very good, although not the very best. It definitely ranks as a very good tea.

I brewed this once in an 64oz iced tea pot for 4 min with 8 tsp leaf and boiling water.

Also, it seems we need to add jackfruit to the list of authorized flavors as the computer won’t allow you to add one not on the list.

Flavors: Apricot, Mango

Preparation
Boiling 4 min, 0 sec 8 tsp 64 OZ / 1892 ML

This tea is excellent, somewhat bitter and very malty(not meaning chocolate). The brewing instructions called for boiling water but I think it could benefit from 190 degree water. It will hopefully wake me up as it is too early.

I brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with boiling water and 2.5 tsp leaf for 3 min.

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 18 OZ / 532 ML

This is the sort of tea that Teavana does well, fruity and strong. There is the strong flavor of the berries and the flavor of the oranges. Some mix between them is fairly tart. It is quite good. I might have to see if Teavana still sells this no that I am down to my last cup. This one never even made it into my cupboard.

I brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with boiling water, 3 tsp leaf, for 5 min.

I have a bit of this in my tea cabinet but have yet to try it. Your comment makes it sound like a good mix so I may give it a go soon. Unfortunately, Teavana discontinued this tea last summer so it might be a little difficult to find now.

This is a fairly tasty, slightly bittersweet tea. There is a slight bitterness that might disappear with lower temp water but it is not overpowering. The vanilla in this tea gives it what I would describe as a savory character and a slight sweetness. I picked this one today because it is decaf, for little other reason.

I brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with 200 degree water, 3 tsp leaf for 3 min. It is pretty good as decaf goes, they never seem to taste as good as caffeinated tea, I guess that’s because they use lower quality leaves.

Flavors: Vanilla

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 3 min, 0 sec 3 tsp 18 OZ / 532 ML

drank Lychee Congou by Simpson & Vail
1758 tasting notes

I brewed this in a 64 oz iced tea pot and put it in a thermos for work. I did not end up finishing it but I had plenty of tea. It is slightly sweet from the Lychee flavoring, slightly, very slightly bitter, and very slightly astringent. It is a fairly good mix, no one flavor is overpowering.

I brewed this once in a 64oz iced tea pot with 8 tsp leaf and boiling water for 3 min. I then put it in a thermos and brought it to work.

Flavors: Lychee

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 0 sec 8 tsp 64 OZ / 1892 ML

this sounds like it would be good as an iced tea. :)

I have been meaning to try it iced, haven’t gotten around to it.

I brewed this tea a little differently and it is much better than last time. I used less leaf in the hopes of tastier tea and got better but not incredible tea. This is another one I bought for the novelty factor of USA grown tea.

It is slightly sweet with some but not a lot of raspberry flavor. It is not too bitter but a little. Not bad but I would not buy it again.

I brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with 2 tsp leaf and 200 degree water for 3min.

I am Allan. I live and work in Long Island, New York. I have been amassing a tea collection for nearly two years and have spent way too much money. I now try to buy mostly Puerh as I like it most and it lasts nearly forever. Black tea has a habit of going bad. If anyone is interested in tea swaps I am open to ideas and have quite a cupboard.
